Adopt Informed with Katie
Hi, I'm Katie! I'm an adoption consultant, educator, and adoptive parent. As a mom to three kids who we adopted from foster care, I know first hand how confusing and overwhelming the adoption process can be. I help prospective adoptive parents navigate the adoption journey so that they can provide a stable and loving home to their future child. Want to work with me? Visit adoptinformed.com

My name is Dreama. Adoptee here! Thank you so much for validating that so many adoptees have a rough story. I personally have been treated like crap from other adoptees because my experience was good . My family was created by adoption. I was a foreign adoption and my brother was a parental placement. I can tell you no matter how good of a job you do, ALL adoptees experience the emptiness or missing piece thing. I’m almost 30 and it’s a daily struggle. I was an orphan kid from India… we won’t go into all of my story. My brother however did have that chance to meet his bio mom when he was 23 but it fell through for him because she only was interested in what money she could potentially make off of him. So anyway those are mini stories. I’d be happy to share more. But I’ll end on this, I HAVE THE BEST PARENTS. I LOVE THEM AND IM SO THANKFUL THAT OUR FAMILY WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY ADOPTION. So much so that I’m adopting myself. My husband and I are very excited to get the ball rolling! Thanks so much for the information Katie! You’re doing great!
Thank you for this video. May I ask, what do your kids call you? Is it mom as well? I will definitely be subscribing.
So happy for you and Nick entering this new era! I actually just quit my job too, funnily enough to transition to become a teacher! (but at an outdoors/forest school, so a little different type of environment) It's really exciting to find something that lights you up and be able to pursue that. We're still not sure adoption or even kids of our own are in our future, but like another commenter said, I just always enjoy watching your videos, it's a serotonin boost for me! Just like swimming in a lake in the summer is hehe
My favorite pool toy is definitely this big inflatable peacock float. And my favorite movie of the day is Aladdin (both cartoon and the live action). And my favorite thing about my Dad is that he’s so incredibly generous and strong.
I love that! I will read them your answers…they were excited to hear what people said ☺️
Definitely camping! We have a 10 day trip planned to go to Upper Michigan in july!
we are hoping to camp in the UP for our first time this summer!
I’ve always wanted to go there! Have a great time :)
🍀cool update! 🌈 ooh im guessing it has to do with.. a visa🛂 👀
Can we join the group if we are just doing foster care with the hope of adopting one day if possible?
Absolutely! The monthly topics and discussions are relevant to both foster parents and adoptive parents :)
@@adoptinformed awesome! I’m signing up now 💕
Congrats, Katie, on taking your business full time!!! You must be beyond happy! I've loved seeing your family grow. I started watching your channel when I was considering adoption. As I've learned more about it, I've decided it's not for me at this time. I've continued watching because I truly enjoy your content. And maybe someday I'll be ready to adopt! My favorite summertime activity: sunsets on the beach! 🌅If I can't make it to the beach, lounging on the patio for coffee in the morning is a close second.☕🌄
My favorite summer activity is going to the beach! Sooo excited for you guys (:
Awww we miss you! 🥰
Favorite thing to do in the summer is come back inside where it's air conditioned! 😂😂😂
We just had our second Zoom call with a potential match! Now, we're just waiting to see if they want to move forward. 🙏🏻
Ahhh! That’s so exciting!!
Going to the beach!
So happy about all these changes:)
Our family is counting down to our final home study interview in early July, and then we’ll be ready to welcome a new addition (a sibling to our biological son) from foster care. It’s really exciting. 😁
I’m in process to adopt from foster care and your channel and videos helped me a lot! Appreciate you and love the way you do it here!!!❤
I’m so happy to hear that! Congrats!! :)
First comment: Gardening 👩🌾
I wish I liked to garden! I have so many springtime allergies it makes it tough 😅

My husband and I are considering adopting a kid around 7-9yrs old. We haven’t fully decided if we want to go the adoption route or have our own kid so we started looking into adoption so we can be fully informed by the time we are ready for a kid
For Emmett: my favorite pool toy is the floatie with a cup holder!🏊☀🎉
I will tell him! That’s a good one :)
I enjoy the vlogs because it's cool to see the traditions you guys have started as a family and how everything is going in general. Nick is quite the handyman working on Emmett's room - looks like a huge project!! My pastor has a similar pool and his kids love it, but he doesn't like the process of putting it together every year lol!
I asked my MD library system to order her book and they got five copies! I'm excited to read it!
That’s awesome! :)
My favorite pool toy is a noodle :)
We love those too! :)
Love this type of content!
Your kids are so cute! Thank you for sharing. P.S. can you link your pool?
Yep! Here you go: amzn.to/4bdPg8H :)
@@adoptinformed Thank you! :)
I just checked walmart instead of amazon because I thought the Amazon price seemed much higher than what we paid...it's so much cheaper from Walmart! www.walmart.com/ip/Coleman-Power-Steel-16-ft-x-10-ft-x-42-in-Oval-Metal-Frame-Above-Ground-Pool-Set/1438484246?athbdg=L1102&from=/search
@@adoptinformed Thanks so much!!
Your kids are the cutest. They are definitely KZread watchers. I enjoy this type of video.
They like watching Ninja Kidz and I’m pretty sure they ask people to like and subscribe at the end of almost every sentence 😅
How do you handle the sleeping arrangements? I know there are certain restrictions while in the fostering stage. Do those still apply once they're adopted?
Once they are adopted those rules don’t apply :) we usually have all 3 kids share a room when we travel! At home they each have their own rooms.
@@adoptinformed Thank you so much!
My Dad’s best friend adopted a girl through foster care. She had been severely beaten by her mom’s boyfriend. She had problems developmentally. The pediatrician in town told my dad’s best friend and his wife that the girl would not be worth adopting. They continued with the adoption. Yes the girl was delayed. My dad’s best friend and twin sister were adopted. The twin sister had cerebral palsy. Their parents would not split those two up and he wasn’t going to turn away anyone with a disability. She is an adult now and has kids of her own. They are having to raise the grandkids. I don’t know the backstory on the father so much other than he had developmental problems as well.
This is why ppl don't want to go through the hassle this is awfully complicated
It definitely can be! But once your kid is home with you, it’s easy to forget about all of the hassle 😊
I’m 13 years old but I want a little sister
Thanks for your tips.. i Love it .... kisses from an adoptive mom of three in Brazil ❤
Hubby and I are trying to adopt a sibling group of 3! 👨👩👧👧
Do you have a "things not to say to adoption familes" video?? 💓
I don’t, but that is a topic on my list! :)
One of the children (sibling group)we are hoping to adopt is 13. I feel like we have missed so much of his life already. ⭐
In some ways you have, but our oldest came to us at 10 and I was blown away by how many “firsts” we got to experience with her still :)
🎉
What if the child is only 3yrs old.
What about just changing the last name?
Yes, a lot of people do that!
I tried to adopt my nephew after my sister died but his initial foster parents wanted him so he was taken away from me by CPS. They made the excuse that it was because I was still grieving my sister but it was really to return him to their friends. It’s a broken system.😢
Thank you solo much! ❤️
Sooo much!
I am not a Christian. I am a Unitarian Universalist, (which is really just a group of people who believed something and feel the need to have a religious community, even though hardly any of the members believe the same thing with some being atheists or agnostics, some being monotheists, and others being polytheists). Personally, my experience as a Unitarian universalist, is that I tried inventing a new religion for an imaginary society, and I wanted it to be realistic, and once a I achieved the creation of this new religion, I accidentally discovered, that it made more sense to me than any world religion I’d ever heard of. Still I wanted to have a religious community, so this is where I ended up. There are really so many religions in the world and all of them are beautiful. This includes Christianity. Religion can be a beautiful thing to explore, and have be a part of your life, and I don’t really care what religion a child finds peace with, as long as it helps them stay mentally healthy and at peace with themselves. I wanted to watch this video, because I love to see families introducing religion to people in healthy ways. I believe god has spoken to me and saved my life again and again, and I have a relationship with god. I can’t come to terms with the idea that the god I don’t just believe in, but have a relationship with, and is an all loving god, actually would send someone to hell, and not give any second chances through reincarnation, for people who have been through traumatic experiences and have not been able to make peace with religion, in this life, that they would not be given a second chance, just because they’ve made peace with a certain religion. I think Christians, Muslims, Jews, and pagans like me, alike can make it to heaven, if they live good lives. I do get uncomfortable with family members sometimes, who insist that I will not be saved. I started to bring up Jesus, occasionally, and I think they think I’m suddenly a Christian, but in reality, I didn’t even do it on purpose the first time. I will be happy to let my children explore anything that gives them peace.
Is this an LGBT inclusive/friendly foster care channel?
👨👧👦I'm a single nonbinary guy waiting for my homestudy to be approved by the state (it was submitted last week), and I'm hoping to eventually adopt a large sibling group. I was the eldest of four and I've worked as a substitute teacher for a few years as well as having nannied for families with multiple kids, so I have experience taking care of several kids at a time. There's a sibling group of five currently looking for a placement in my state. My caseworker would want me to have a few foster placements before taking such a large group on, so it would be a few months before I could possibly take them in. I hope they find a good placement before I could, because that would mean they have to wait in the system less time overall, but I wouldn't hesitate to apply to be a potential placement for them if they're still looking when I'd be able to.
This was so lovely!!
