You know what they say about opinions 🤣
What about arguments? Opinion: Definition: An opinion is a personal belief, feeling, or thought about a particular subject. It is subjective and reflects what someone thinks or feels. Basis: Opinions can be based on personal experiences, preferences, or beliefs. They do not necessarily require evidence or reasoning. Expression: Opinions are often expressed using phrases like "I think," "I believe," or "In my view." Example: "I think vanilla ice cream is the best flavor." Argument: Definition: An argument is a reasoned statement or series of statements intended to persuade others that a particular position or conclusion is valid. It is more structured and objective. Basis: Arguments are supported by evidence, facts, and logical reasoning. They require justification to be convincing. Structure: Arguments typically include a claim (the main point), evidence (supporting data or reasons), and a warrant (the connection between the evidence and the claim). Example: "Vanilla ice cream is the best flavor because it has a simple, classic taste that appeals to a wide range of people, as evidenced by its consistent popularity in surveys and sales data." Key Differences:
You made some very good points.
Thanks
Nice you can use paint bucket handle too or chain link fence wire
Great idea
Yeah great video especially the cooking part lol !
Thanks 👍
Dude! you gotta get the under-seat custom-fit bag! That backpack placement is a total nope for me.
Yes you could mess around with that - but then it will likely not carry well. This works fine - you're not going fast or doing crazy stuff - it's a 49cc engine.
I agree with you, I’ve never truly needed to do it but simply do it out of directed habit. also, I get to use my ax and knife more by doing so. But if you’ve seen my fires, you’ll see that most of the time I don’t baton.. Great stuff, mate! And thanks for revealing the truth
I neck carry a Mora Eldris from time to time. Works great. IMO it’s best to select your knife and carry style tailored to your clothing, kit, and intended activity each trip. If I neck carry my short Eldris I’m definitely bringing a folding saw like a Silky Pocket Boy or Laplander (I have leather belt sheaths for both). It’s all about how the kit fits together for me. I don’t like a crowded waist area so I’m not putting a knife AND a saw on my belt.
I believe the point of this video is not about personal preference, but rather the fact that Dave made unsubstantiated statements.
Bingo.
Subbed to your gardening channel for ages, just found this! We also love fishing and outdoor adventures, we are the other side of Bridgewater though. I was going to take our girls our for flounder, maybe a bit late though. Where are you fishing, and any locations you could recommend? Cheers
Probably still some time to catch a few flounder yet. Boutlier's point is kind of out your way (ish). That's a good spot for flounder sometimes. Might be some better spots closer to B-water, but I don't know the area well enough.
Reason there still around built to last and in a time where they didn't make a new model each month lol. My mother just found ours from when i was a kid. And handed it down, lol. i changed the cork gasket. Works just like it did when i was a kid. She even still had the stand for it.
Awesome!
😮
You treat your knives to keep them from rusting, so treat your ferro rod also. Clear nail polish works good.
Discomfort with the possibility of stabbing chest with point when re-sheathing blade is an unacknowledged factor for some people.🙃
But they have no discomfort with the possibility of stabbing their groin or hip when sheathing a belt-knife... an equally preposterous thing to fear.
@@outdoorsonthecheap Sure, ta. Tho' on the hip the tip is not moving towards the body🙃
where are u fishing man? they have some pretty generous size limits 😃
There aren't size limits - just catch limits. You can only keep 10.
Truly excellent vid, I am one of these newbs watching batoning vids and planning to buy a knife, wondering how big it should be. What drove me to this is my love for chopping wood and I’m going on a canoe trip where it isn’t practical to bring my hatchet. But I see I’ll just need to pull out my love for kicking over and crunching wood with my hands instead.
Yes - it's mostly just a sales-pitch to sell big expensive knives
looks like bigfoot country...got any stories? :)
The fact that people are still buying expensive packframes when you can build a really good one for a very low cost is baffling.
Love the video..BUT…as a knife-o-holic..I have and carry a few with me..EVERYWHERE..in my backpack..is the JX5..a Dulo Knives leuku..and a Martini fillet knife..on my hips(plural)..left is an Adventure Sworn Classic..right is a Ahti Tikka..completely understand it is a bit of an OCD…and hell a lottle bit weird…but I am what I am …if shite does ever hit the fan…oh I’m getting home to the family…which by the way…ALL HAVE A FEW NICE KNIVES ….for their benefit…not bc..of a serious knife addiction…look all I’m saying is…I don’t think there is a hotline that helps people with this type of addiction…not sure it would be called if there was…maybe on me…definitely not by me!!!
Yes I think you've got it bad there buddy :)
Excellent video - thanks! Beautiful country there.
Glad you enjoyed it
I love my cooey 60, and I love my AR15 as well .I stopped your video at the moment you tried to sound like joe biden in trying to shame folks for wanting modern sporting rifles like my deer rifle, which is an AR15
What I said as that it doesn't make any sense to want a gun with a high rate of fire to hunt rabbits; & that it makes no sense to spend big money for the "tactical: look - when an old gun will do the job just fine. If you felt a twinge of shame when you heard that - that's on you man. Also - please keep your ridiculous politics out of my comments section .
You make fair points, but lets be realistic...whats the reason you are out in the woods anyways? It certainly isnt survival its for fun. batoning is fun. That is literally all the reason you need. Not only that but batoning will allow you to make a fire without any smoke. Notice when you burned all that bark you had tons of smoke.
Batoning is about as fun as splitting wood - it's a chore. The idea of it being fun is a marketing trick - they convince you its fun so you'll buy a ridiculous indestructible knife. They convince you its necessary so you'll buy the ridiculous indestructible knife. They convince you that guys who don't like ridiculous indestructible knives are wimpy girly men so you'll buy the ridiculous indestructible knife. And so on and so on.
@@outdoorsonthecheap This is truly a braindead take by a weak minded person hellbent on judging others. I hope you feel better one day.
Have fun batoning...err... splitting wood...
@@outdoorsonthecheap Ok?
Really great day man. Dandy trout too. Right on!
Thanks 👍
Thanks 👍
That's a post-apocalyptic vehicle if ever there was one. Great fun and nice vid man.
Thanks 👍
I keep a knife on my neck while in camp and crafting only, it is handy and easy to access rather then leave it on the ground floor or anywhere else. It is just a personal preference. I see no safety issues even if you keep it on the neck all the time.
The thing about Dave and his videos/advice….and this is just my opinion…he makes money and will say anything to sell merchandise. There is a video of him making a bow drill srt from scratch…and him “getting a coal”…he faked it. And badly…that was years ago…that’s Dave!
I agree with what you said around minute 6. I never had a neck knife snag into anything. 510 is my favorite for that
👍👍
so let's talk for real, Matches are really cheap for a lot of them. It is easy to carry them, we need a just be prepared if you're going into the woods video.
If you stash it on public property and then abandon it, I am pretty sure it is up for grabs to whoever wants to take it. You can't store private property on public land. Once you leave it it is considered abandoned.
Of course - but most people will just leave it like they found it - they are happy to share the use of it, as am I.
I enjoyed the ride, no flies and dry...lol. I am sure once I got going the day would be most enjoyable as I like being in the woods. Before you started talking about the beaver I thought to myself how useful beaver would be to change that picture,
The drop in water level may have sent the trout to hang out in the deepest water they can find. If the shallow water froze solid during winter to the bottom, it would kill most of the trout and insects. 🤔😟
Another great video. Keep em coming!
Thanks man
Ho😮😮 . What a paradise you are living. !! Whithout stupid people all arond you... 👍🏻From the portuguese man
It is nice I have to admit :)
Great video! My two comments: I thought I was going to see you cook the fish. I was a little disappointed when that was not part of the video. I also was interested in what bug dope you use. I guess the bug dope company is not a paid sponsor. That was a joke!
When I got home I was hungry and didn't feel like taking 30 min to clean the kitchen to shoot a cooking video - so I just did a couple tight shots, sorry man. I use Bens 100 back in the bush. Very toxic - very effective! Back in the garden I just use kids stuff - like off. I can always run back to the house if its too bad - but back in the bush there is no escape :)
@@outdoorsonthecheap you make a good point about the difference between home gardening and outdoor hiking. You say it well: with outdoor hiking, there’s no escape! 🦟🪳 🪰
You can survive just with a SAK. Search for Immler.
What is a SAK?

You have made more sense than 99 percent of these so-called survival experts online. Love the videos keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
lol man this is a terrible fiberglass job 😂
It works - that's what matters.
On "Dual Survival" Dave's partner, Cody Lundin, wore a Mora around his neck. Dave and Cody had a falling out. It could be that Dave doesn't like a knife around his neck because it reminded him of Cody.
I think Dave's main prob with Cody was the bare feet - and I can't blame him for that :)
Im on vacation and just sitting back watching your videos out here in idaho
That's awesome
Great adventure !
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video keep em going ,good solid info .
Thanks, will do!
If you use enough strands and twist up the snare it can be staked solid or attached to branchs and wont break .
Im thinking those large mystery tracks are lynx they have like a snow shoe type foot ,helps them run down prey "rabbits" in the deep snow ,we have them here in Idaho as well .
Keep it going the most honest approach and solutions for general bushcrafting on the net that ive seen and been doing this for most of my sixty years thanks for keeping it real and down to earth !
Thanks man!
Skill will outway the tool every time. I practice and teach both primitive skills and modern survival skills. I DONT NEED a knife. I just like the luxury of having it. Ive never needed to baton. I do baton sometimes. Usually because of laziness. I didnt grab enough kindling, or tinder. So i split down smaller stucked that i have. Ive only ever batoned a "log" which i define as something bigger than my forearms, a couple of times. And that was just to see how well some of my longer tools like my parang would do it. Usually if i do split. Its forearm size stuff. Like i said. Usually out of laziness or miscalculation
It's pronounced 'fillet'!... Just kidding! Thanks for showing us. I thought I knew how to prep a fish, but I've never done a flounder. I feel more manly just watching. ᕦ⊙෴⊙ᕤ
Ha ha thanks :)
Good to see Greg. Thanks for sharing how to do it.
That some good looking fish. I’d also like to see how you cook the fillets. Your cooking videos are very helpful and informative. I’m looking forward to making zucchini relish! Using your recipe!!! My last thought was fish guts. What do you do with your fish guts? Do your fish guts end up in your garden? I’ve heard fish meal is an excellent fertilizer. I don’t remember you ever doing a video where you added fish guts to a garden bed. My guess is your concern with bears and raccoons.
Thanks - yes one of these day's I'll film that. My favorite way to cook them is quite technical - but delish! Good idea for a video! You're right - its all about the bears. Sometimes I bury them in the garden, like 12" deep. Otherwise, they go in the freezer and are picked up on green-bin day. The smell of rotting fish is almost guaranteed to draw bears.
@@outdoorsonthecheap I thought so! Keep the bears away from your children!! It’s a good idea!!! 👍 👍👍
Usually I would do a front belt knife for a smaller one. If it’s night, I will wear a headlamp around my neck to save myself from insects so that space is occupied
I have used a neck knife and at times it is an ok way to carry it. I prefer to carry it as a belt knife. Main reason is that most backpacks have chest straps making a neck very cumbersome. I think people just end up with preferences. I also don’t like that it takes 2 hands to take it in and out. I know that the idea is to have the sheathe not so tight on the knife that it binds but I don’t like any knife loose in a sheathe. Now truth is eastern tribes of Native Americans did prefer neck knives. But a massive differences is that eastern tribes weren’t horse riders nearly as much as western tribes. Western tribes had their knives as belt knives. So there are arguments for either. It just comes down to preference. For belt knives I prefer just a sheathe that the knife just slides in not buckle or snap sheathes.
