Yeah if they're freaking stupid they will. You got all these young guys who are going to need contracts and you want to spend to the cap so we can make the playoffs and get eliminated in the first round in five games wasn't that fun. I'm still getting over the Matt trade. That's what happens when you're desperate and you have pressure put on you. I like McCloud but boy Edmonton got stuff Pennies on a dollar. And they even use Canadian money ouch😢

The Sabres rehired a coach they fired because he couldn't win the important games, got rid of players they shouldn't have and signed players that do nothing to bring the team to the next level. There is a 99.9% chance they will hit AT LEAST fourteen years in a row and when that happens...I will give up on 150 years of cheering for sabres incompetence. I'm tired of being embarrassed to tell people who my team is. They don't care about winning so I'll quit spending money to watch and support them. It's beyond excusable for an organization to be this incompetent.

Concentrate on the powerplay. Find a couple of forwards who are willing to go to and stay in front of the net. Driven to distraction last season watching the Sabres concentrate on getting the puck to TT on the PP, to no avail. The league has learned to nullify that play.

A 2nd for Malenstyn was an overpayment, but that is the Sabres situation right now. Other teams know that the fans are losing their minds because the Sabres have missed the playoffs for 13 years, so they feel emboldened to make excessive offers. Bill Armstrong tried to do it with Chychrun and ended up taking a lesser offer from Ottawa rather than accept a better one (but not the one he wanted) from the Sabres. The trade for Stillman could be viewed that way, although Bloom hasn't hit yet (and may not). Adams has done a good job of building up the system, but he obviously does not have a good poker face when making deals.

There's nothing sneaky about Joe's room temperature takes!? GMKA summer acquisitions of Malenstyn and Aube-Kubel should be viewed as the Buffalo Bills acquiring Hyde and Poyer. Adams traded to acquire Malenstyn as the first piece of the culture change then brought in his line mate Aube-Kubel. Malenstyn brings speed and physical play, hitting everything that is in his purview. Aube-Kubel also brings the speed element, plays a smart game and isn't afraid to mix it up and battle along the boards. Adams targeted these players to rebuild the culture from a soft, easy to play against team to a physical, hard to play against team. Seth Appert loves Malenstyn and speaks highly of him as a two way player and claims he's a nightmare that has opponents looking for a line change when he's on the ice. Being harder to play against means adding elements that are tougher to defend, fast and physical wears teams down and wins games. Malenstyn's size alone was enough to trade a second round pick, let alone his two-way play and defensive zone face-off percentage. He won't be scratched. You guys willl be asking him where you can buy his father's beer when you talk to him on the radio!? He'll be the guy that Rob Ray, Dan Dunleavy, Paul Hamilton, Lindy Ruff and Seth Appert will be praising for what he brings to the roster night in and night out. You keep teeing em' up this summer, but your scorecard isn't showing any improvement. In this installment you didn't even qualify for the back nine or cottage beers. If I'm being honest I don't think you'd comprehend this game with a caddy or watching from the press box. Have fun playing NHL and living in fantasy land! 😂

Joe - please double check next year's salary cap situation. According to Spotrac projected cap space is indeed $33 million. But remember that Pekka-Lukinen and Krebs are not under contract now, much less next year. Say the two sign bridge deals with a combined hit of $6 million. That would leave $27 million. In addition to the four you named (Levi, Peterka, Quinn and Byram) that need to be signed, here are the players on our current roster who will need to be re-signed or replaced for next year ('25-26): Zucker, Greenway, Aube-Kubel, Jokiharju and Bryson. Their current combined salary cap hit is $14 million. The Sabres can't afford that much next year. And Ryan Johnson's contract expires next June. Bringing in affordable prospects such as Rosen, Kulich, Ostlund and perhaps Novikov will be necessary to stretch cap dollars. But the Sabres will most certainly be at the cap next year. Even so, some of those big four player contracts will have to be bridge deals. The Sabres cannot afford to hang on to all of them long-term. Pegula is not being cheap. I agree the Skinner buyout is mysterious. But the salary cap numbers for next year are much tougher than most fans realize.

Skinner Buyout was cause he scored 9 goals, 3 of them being in a single game, after he got back in January and then he offered no help on the defence. He was also responsible for some game loses, 3rd Toronto game in overtime as another example. It was either a buy him out or trade him out and he blocked trades with his NTC so they had to buy him out.

Our lack of commitment to playing defensive minded hockey is what kept Buffalo from advancing to the playoff tournament last season. Goaltending is the only reason they had a chance to play meaningful hockey games at the end of the season. We don't need a better option in net. Buffalo's problem is an uninformed local media full of talking heads like Sneaky Joe who live in fantasy land drinking from their poisoned well, thinking advanced stats tell you all that you need to know!? They haven't any ideas about the game that they can't draw a numbers comparison. That's why they overreact to every trade and their analysis is laughed at by anyone with a halfwit's hockey IQ. Adams went out this summer to the fan's displeasure and created an new identity for this hockey club,... Defensive minded players who play with speed and are committed to the 200ft game. Watch the games this season and see how much better they are defensively as a team, how the bottom six acquisitions create a new identity for the soft, pansy hockey team that missed the playoffs last season. Then watch UPL's stats improve along with the teams win -loss record. It won't be because of a change in goaltending. It will be because of the commitment made this summer by the GM and new HC to acquiring players who commit to defensive minded hockey and the 200ft game.

Agree, not to be mean, but Joe has proven he knows very little about certain areas of the game. Whether UPL continues this or not and whether his advanced stats are bad or not, anyone who does knew that UPL was on the verge of having a breakout season. A big reason for his statistics being weak were because of his teams defense allowing so many breakaways that ruined his SV%, the number of shots he faced, and being one of those goalies where it's a time, experience, and puck luck thing. He had the athleticism and everything else. That's how goalies get better. And preseason performances for goalies don't matter either. Joe has had many casual takes on the team. UPL might not be a permanent starter. He might be an Ullmark or he might be an Elliot where he falls off and is a better backup when Levi or someone else overlaps him. He's more than good enough to be in the NHL for the time being though and was good in 2024. You never know what he will become down the line now. To say he should've been out of the league over his statistics on paper in 2023 and his preseason games is foolish. Giving him a 3M deal isn't horrible if it's only for a couple of years. I wouldn't give him too much term though as goalies are on or off nowadays.
