McLeod trade could be beginning of the end for Peyton Krebs

Спорт

The Sabres swung a trade for center Ryan McLeod on Friday, which will have a big impact on the Sabres depth chart. This is very true for Peyton Krebs, who Sneaky Joe believes could now be on the way out of Buffalo at the next opportunity.
What will Krebs' role be if still in Buffalo? How much could Kevyn Adams get for him in a trade? Joe also has a specific trade idea that could happen with Krebs going to the Flyers.

66PTS in 215 NHL games thus far for Krebs. He's a 0.30697674418 PPG PLAYER and not worth a roster spot on a team that wants to make a playoff push.

@@HALFDEADHERMAN I hear that. But I'm believing there has to be more for Krebs. I think he might do well under a more structured coach. I think Granato preached "let them figure it out" but Ruff will both demand more from Krebs and he will give Krebs a direction or rather a role to fill.

@@captainahab4325GMKA seems to agree with you based on his media responses. I just don't see how a player with Krebs numbers fits on a team looking to make a push towards the playoffs. The time for development was under Granato and Krebs simply failed to develop. IMO GMKA needs to move on from him now and get something in return, before an asset with depreciating value, walks in the offseason, for nothing. I'd trade Ryan Johnson, Peyton Krebs and a 2nd to bring in a guy with Joel Farabee's upside and not think twice about the cost. In his 24YO year he tallied 50PTS. Is Krebs going to tally half of that playing 4th line minutes in his 24YO year. I don't think Krebs would tally near 50PTS playing alongside Cozens and Quinn. I've seen enough of this fringe NHL'er and find the value Farabee adds to a team; desperate to boost goal totals from last season, is exactly what this TOP 6 needs infused into the lineup.

Oh you want another “top 6 forward?” How about trading for veteran Ryan O’Reilly? He’s still scoring 25 - 30 goals per year and was the Conn Smythe winner with the Blues when they won the Cup. Or make a blockbuster trade for another Stanley Cup winner, Jack Eichel? Or yet another Stanley Cup winner, Sam Reinhart, 57 goal scorer last season with Florida? Adams could trade a couple young kids for Colorado’s second line center Casey Middlestadt. If he’s good enough to be recent Stanley Cup winning Avalanche’s 2nd line center her should fit in at worst on the Sabres 2nd line, too, right? Evander Kane could play anywhere in the top 6, Adams could swing a trade for him. There’s all kinds of talented scoring top 6 players scattered around the NHL, aren’t there?

Hes in a contract year so it might be best to keep him at least until the trade deadline . Foerster-Couturier-Konecny Tippett-Frost-(Michkov?) Farabee-Laughton-Brink Cates-Poehling-Hathaway That’s the projected lineup according to Daily Faceoff. The flyers probably know they’re no cup favorites, let’s be honest. They probably out performed expectations. Unless they REALLY just want to tank, then I don’t see them accepting that Krebs trade proposal of yours. Despite playing 16 mins of time on ice, he finished 3rd on the team in scoring. His time probably jumps right back up to 17 mins a night next season. What if Michkov isn’t quite ready? Then he probably gets that 2nd line spot. He’s gonna get pretty decent PP time too. My point is- I don’t think they see Krebs as any must get because you’re not getting any sort of upgrade if you’re Philly. Krebs probably finds himself in a similar role with less offensive ability proven. And especially- Henri Jokiharju is not any real upgrade compared to what they have. You have a decent idea, but the fit isn’t quite there yet. Philly probably continues to hold onto Farabee for now because he has a pretty good role on the team already. Especially if Michkov has his rookie struggles.

1 idea I had for a Krebs swap (in the future) would be the Seattle Kraken. I do see Yanni Gourde and Brandon Tanev are 2 guys expiring after the season….just an idea there. Some sort of Krebs for Gourde swap would allow them to develop Wright in a top 9 role after they just signed Stephenson….Gourde can play both center and wing. Krebs would likely continue to just be a bottom 6 fwd in Seattle though so I think Buffalo would add a tad more…good buy low options out of Seattle. Acquire a Gourde/Tanev and just stay patient with Benson becoming a top 6 fwd. Gourde/Tanev would be quality top 9 place holders for a couple of seasons.

For a while I thought we would be shopping for a top 6 forward, but now I think they may keep Peterka there, move Benson to 2nd line and use the signings/trades to fill in the rest. They could keep Krebs (unless there is a deal you can't pass up) as his QO was just under $900k. So its not much to remove. Sign him on a single year unless he can do 3 years at just under 1mil (so he can be traded off with a contract) if he cannot improve in this year.

Krebs sounds a lot like Mittlestadt three-four years ago. It will take him a little bit longer to find his legs. No reason to put the pressure of the Eichel trade on him. No reason to give up on him for a months' worth of 3rd line center duty. No first round draft pick gets the "18 games...that was his chance...and he blew it" assessment. Just give it a little rest, Joe, with the over the top language. I think he's quite competitive and he'll look at these new guys coming in and will work harder...that's the psychology of sports.

Joel Farabee isn't a Torts guy!? Torts benched him for nearly an entire game against NJ last December because he "doesn't listen". That's why he's rumored to be on the trade market. Despite that fact, he's an ideal Top 6 target who checks the "wants to be here" box. He's a 50pt contributor and proven NHL'er with 300+ games played. If he's paired with the right skill players, he could potentially tally 60-70 PTS. He turned 24 in February and is signed thru 2027 for a $5M cap hit. Adams should unload Krebs along with whatever spare parts from Rochester necessary to make a deal for a former 14th overall pick. Then Lindy Ruff can work on getting thru to a player who tallies 50pts and "doesn't listen."
