    new player to dome keeper, actually left a review on the collapse OST think you replied, i loved watching that as i grew a new love for the victory theme. i love how each song can interoperate their own story. this one in particular i would love to hear a remix, or a full instrumental with actual instruments that would be really cool to hear, thank you for this upload, thank you for all of your music and giving us something beautiful to listen too whilst trying to defend our domes from the evils outside on the planets, whilst we mine to keep our dome together and keep us alive. thank you for everything x would really love to write lore for this game engineers logs / assesor thoughts diary entries lmao

    The structuring, sound design and even some of the melodies lead me to believe you listen to Lorn :) the chord progressions in your melodies are burnt into my brain. Its not easy to get so much emotion out of a background sound track let alone one like this that leans towards ambient. Absolutely incredible work worthy of release on Warp or Ninja Tune.

    Thank you! I remember listening to "Nothing Else" when it came out, but haven't really kept up with Lorn. Man, this is amazing! Thanks a lot for sharing it with us. From the first moment I listened to the game's soundtrack I started asking myself how did you manage to get those synth sounds, cause they are so good. Would you mind diving a little deeper into the sound design process behind them on Pigments?

  • @CameronPaxton
    @CameronPaxton9 ай бұрын

    To be perfectly honest, I just kinda dig through presets until something catches my ear! It's not usually EXACTLY what I'm after, but it's close. So I don't generally mess with too much inside Pigments. I may turn the preset effects off (there is usually some sort of reverb or delay that I don't want) and I may alter things like the attack, decay, and release... but other than that not much else! Most of the tinkering I do to the sound is with the effects I put on top: saturation, reverb, delay, bit crushing, etc.

By the way, I wanted to tell you I really enjoyed the " _Alone with one's thoughts_ " track from the engineer pack, even though it finishes so abruptly. Kinda remind me of Chicory for the peace it emanates. Are you the one playing clarinet, flute and saxophone ? If yes, I really hope we hear more of those for the next characters in dome keeper. Also, I'm not sure to recognise, what percussions did you play ?

  • @CameronPaxton

    Thanks so much!! This particular soundtrack was co-composed with Jerry Wilkie (wilkie_jerry on IG) who played the live woodwinds. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much other recorded music that I'm aware of, he focuses on live jazz performance. He did a fantastic job on this. The only live instrument I play is guitar, so everything else on here (percussion, piano, etc) is made using VSTs or manipulated samples. I'm away from my editing computer so I can't recall the exact percussion samples I used, but they were just cobbled together from my sample library :) Thanks for listening!

  • @CameronPaxton

    It was always going to be a divisive character, as the gameplay is so different from the Engineer. Personally, I think it's a lot of fun to play as the Assessor (especially if you embrace the chaotic nature of it instead of fighting against it) but I can definitely see how it's just not going to be for some people. But, that said, there are QOL and changes coming based on player feedback. In fact I think there were some slight updates made yesterday! I'm very happy with the Assessor OST, and I think I actually like it more than the Engineer's. I'm also totally okay with it not being as popular, it just makes it that much more special to those few who really love the character :)

  • @CameronPaxton
    @CameronPaxton Жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much! Honestly, I'm not sure there were many direct influences this time around. Perhaps Sigur Rós on a couple of them? For me, the Assessor feels like a much more complex character, and I imagine them to be more emotionally complex as well, like they spent so long training that they've now very elite and also very alone. That's not canon, just my own imaginings :) So this soundtrack to me is more of the inner world of the Assessor, whereas the soundtrack for the Engineer is more about how their surroundings are affecting them. If that makes sense!
