"Further Underneath" and "Ode to iron" fit this game so well. It instills sadness of being lonely, as if you feel homesick for home, which is light years away, barely visible shimmering dot on an alien sky

Thank you so much! That was definitely the sort of atmosphere I wanted to create 💚 Interestingly, "Ode to Iron" was one of the last ones I decided to add to the soundtrack, even though it was one of the first ones I started. It took a long time to get it feeling just right!

The Dome Keeper OST will go down in history alongside legends like FTL and Risk of Rain. Fantastic job and can't wait to hear more. I love how Baertaffy cant help but mention how good the music is every time it comes on. This is going to be added to my regular rotation of study music. Alright now back to Physics for me :)

man it's such a nice gem, i played the demo on mid september and got absolutely caught by the OST, which is one of the main reasons why i bought the game on launch. Sometimes if a music is really 🔥, it makes me get really into the game and it's atmosphere. Nice work really

The gameplay is wonderful, I played the earlier demos before the graphic updates and I enjoyed it very much. But when the music started playing, the music really hits me differently. When I listen to music, the way that it flows and carries itself matters to how I feel about it, and the music from this game really really gets to me. I love the OST, I know I'm making it seem like a lot, and to me it is. I really like how the music was done, it stuck with me from the demos, and so did the gameplay. I really appreciate everything this game has offered, money well spent.

15:16 Man I just love this short synth here, it perfectly encapsulates the relative safety and wonder amongst the solitude of an alien world. Wish there was more of it but at the same time I always smile when I hear it ever so often. Perhaps it being played only once is a good thing.

There isn't really much that repeats throughout the soundtrack (except maybe on the last track). I always like those little moments too :)

This OST is already up there with my favourites, especially ancient artifact, love that track. Looking forward to more!

I got the end-game artifact back to the dome just as the health bar ran out and the game played both Collapse and Laser Party at the same time. I came here just to make sure I wasn't hearing things.

Haha, that's amazing... I bet that was quite the cacophony!

The structuring, sound design and even some of the melodies lead me to believe you listen to Lorn :) the chord progressions in your melodies are burnt into my brain. Its not easy to get so much emotion out of a background sound track let alone one like this that leans towards ambient. Absolutely incredible work worthy of release on Warp or Ninja Tune.

Thank you! I remember listening to "Nothing Else" when it came out, but haven't really kept up with Lorn. I'm definitely massive Boards of Canada fan though, and definitely ripped them off quite a bit on this OST :) I'm really glad you've been enjoying it. I'd love to release something on Warp, that would be quite an achievement!

Absolutely amazing, fits in the game SO well, masterful. i can imagine how hard it is to create something from scratch and be so creative and fit with the game so well. the music is so alien

Thank you!! There were definitely some challenges, but I think I was probably also just a good fit :) I've listened to a lot of Metroid music and Boards of Canada, which both have pretty alien feelings and I think you can hear those influences all over in the Dome music!

Plot twist: the big thuds in Jetpack Requiem are from the upcoming wave of enemies on the surface

That would be cool to use monster attack sounds in a track! Never thought about that... the thuds in Jetpack Requiem are from the Relic pulsing as you carry it up to the dome :)

i saw the game on a random stream just for a few seconds and was like "what the heck is this soundtrack????". just sat here for 30min and heard through the whole thing... this piece is remarkable, cameron! the tension created by this music could bind me to playing just ANY game xD.

Certainly one of the best original soundtracks I have heard for a long long long time. So immersive and original. Never heard anything like it before. Amazing work, I hope you were paid well for this piece of art. That little shift at 6:41 is just mysitcal. So nice.

@@Toebex Hmm, I don't know of any soundtracks that inspired me directly, although I definitely wanted to capture the loneliness of Metroid since I felt the games have similar atmospheres. But a direct influence would be Boards of Canada for sure. I feel like the fingerprints of Geogaddi and Tomorrow's Harvest are all over this soundtrack.

@@CameronPaxton Honestly I had no idea but I would imagine I would name it something that pairs well with the song’s flow so I’d probably name it Salvation (don’t read following unless you haven’t played dome keeper) since that song only plays when you get the final relic and putting it in your dome’s basement in dome keeper and if you failed protecting the dome using your defences the final relic or as I like to call it "Nightmare’s True" it will just fly and stay above your dome annihilating all the dark creatures out of existence and then…you win or survive whatever you call it. Alright that’s all peace be upon you.

​@@CameronPaxton Cool! I dig them all (No pun intended ha). When I heard the tracks, I heard a lot of sounds that would kind of come naturally in that VST back when I used it. It has that kind of sound to it. Lots of (pleasantly) detuned voices for example. When I heard Collapse for the first time I thought "this is the most SNES sounding thing since the SNES" with some modern touches to it. 'The Engineer' could be in Ocarina of Time the way it resolves to that major chord. Hehe. Anyway, you have done a good job, I think it's very interesting. these sound designs and how everything is placed and layered, EQd and filtered. cheers

@@E_-_- I appreciate that! I used Pigments 2. In fact you could probably pretty easily find the patches I used for a lot of it. I did tweak things, but for the most part they already sounded good which is why I used them, haha. And I think for Collapse I used one of the Plogue Chipsynth SFC which sounds very SNES-y

Great job on the soundtrack, really captured the feeling of isolation in a bittersweet way :) Deeper and deeper is such a beautiful track, gives me chills everytime, feels like a modernized Rhubarb :D Any hardware synths or was this done in the box ? Curious about your process as a fellow composer

I'll have to look up Rhubarb, it's not ringing any bells for some reason. Thank you so much for the kind words! This was all done in a DAW. I used almost exclusively Pigments 2, with generous helpings of RC-20 and TAIP to give it that weathered sound :)

Thank you!! I'm not sure I have an exact figure.. I started working on it in April or May 2021, and finished it in August of 2022! But I wasn't working on it constantly, and also did a lot of concurrent work on Volume 2 starting at the beginning of 2022. Sorry, I know that's not super precise 😅

However, updates for the foreseeable future (including the Assessor update coming soon) will be free updates!

Really great. I love how it seems simple (many silence, always only a few voices playing at the same time) but it is incredibly memorable. I did not analyse the music for now, but I'll probably pay more attention next time I'll listen to it. Small question, as the game seems to be somewhat inspired by kingdom and minecraft, were you inspired by Amos Rody and C418 when composing ?

Thanks so much! I was definitely going for vibe over complexity with this soundtrack :) I'm a big fan of C418! I'm sure I was influenced by the Minecraft soundtrack subconsciously, as it's one of my favorites, but I wouldn't say it was a direct source of inspiration. And I've gotten a lot of comparisons to the Kingdom OST! I'd never heard it before starting work on Dome, but now that I have, I'm very happy for the comparison. Amos is great :D More direct influences would be Metroid soundtracks (I wanted to capture that isolation and mystery) and Boards of Canada.

What is the genre of music?

Hmmm... I guess I'd probably say 'ambient electronica' or 'downtempo electronica'... something like that. If you're looking for similar music, check out the Kingdom game soundtracks :)
