In the House of Young Pioneers in former soviet union the students had very little books but had access to trainers and thats the bulk of their chess education.

I think it's good to play over the board before you do a tournament chess clubs (especially in universities) usually open to anyone at least once a week. So play often in person as you're training even through online chess gives you the opportunity to practice a lot more.

Dont watch, its just an advertisement for his courses, click bait at its worst. Honestly it makes me less likely to buy his course, gothamchess, hikaru and magnus are much better chess players to look up as they give really good explanations of all the basics for most openings without needing to buy their course.

This camp is such a blessing for these talented kids, their accomplished teachers, and the gems they will produce for the chess world in the future. I’m retired now but as a kid I would have loved to go to a camp like this in the USA and learn more about chess… alas.. there were (as far as I know) none like this 50 to 55 years ago.

In summary, while in long time controls (like 24 hours per move), engines might show the game is balanced or slightly favoring the bishops in some positions, in faster time controls (like 1 second per move), the practical advantages of the bishop pair (especially when White has it) can often lead to better results due to their dynamic potential, tactical opportunities, and easier maneuverability in the limited time available.

I'm a 1200 ELO online, and i play Catalan or Italian for white, and King's Indian or e5 with black. I have a book about Scheveninghen Najdorf, but i gave up the Sicilian because it's TOO deep and complicated. Ruy Lopez is also a very complicated opening with so many different lines.

Rubies are in game currency. They just seem to be to encourage micro transactions. The problem with them is that there isn't much worth purchasing with these. Other than the streak protection, the rest of the options are a waste of time. As for the leader boards. Once you get to 100+ points per move, all you need to do is decrease your interval and farm the points. Pretty soon you will be getting huge amounts of points and shoot up the leader board. This defeats the purpose of learning. I often see people on one course in the multi millions in points and this is how they do it. I use to look at the leader boards but now ignore them because I know how to manipulate them. A simple solution is that you can't get more than 100 pts max, or perhaps reduce the amount of points if they decrease the spaced repetition to less than a week.
