I have an International student staying in my sharehouse. He attends some Uni (ha,ha) I have never heard of and is studying IT Networking and wants to get PR. He has zero interest in working in that area. The Uni is owned and run by Indians with not one westerner there. The teaching style and treatment of students is appalling but they suck it up in hope to graduate and get PR somehow. He said vast majority of his classmates had same plan. Don't need to be a Rocket Scientist. 🙄

The hourly minimum wage may sound good but in reality cost of living, especially rent in major cities will shock you. Even if you get sufficient working hours, it will be tough.

International education is supposed to be an export industry for Australia. At least, that's how universities have sold it. That is, it is supposed to be a product that Australia sells in order to bring in money from overseas. But it has only just been realised that many people were entering the country as students and then primarily funding their studies through largely unskilled work performed in Australia - thus defeating the intended purpose. Of course, the universities don't care where the money comes from that funds their classrooms (whether from inside Australia or from overseas) but, on a national scale, Australia paying for the international students isn't how it was supposed to work. I think it was the sky-high cost of living crisis in Australia - with the associated rise in homelessness and unemployment requiring even greater expenditure from the government in order to mitigate social disaster - that has forced changes to an industry that was not being used as untended and not bringing in as much financial benefit to the country as intended. Just my opinion.

If I am not wrong, the age limit for graduate studetns visa was 35 for a better permanent visa application long time ago, as over 35, the applicant lost some much points. Hence, for students, they had to apply before turning tha age.
However, a lot of temporary migrants kept hopping back to student visas (non-genuine students) to prolong their stay even though they were working full time (illegal on a student visa). A lot of dodgy providers in the VET sector had such arrangements.
Hhhmm.... Not any info on studying, lots on working in Australia. This is a problem for this country. Ppl aren't here for study. They are here for getting cash. That's why we need crackdowns. There's a lot more coming too.

I submitted my visa application last week Sunday, i am from Nigeria planning 5o start my masters in curtin university, my school is resuming 15th of July, hopefully i get my visa before resumption date

I lodged my file on 3rd of May for Victoria University Sydney Campus with 17 lakhs itr and 40 lakhs old funds my intake is 29 july 2024 still waiting for my visa to be granted. It has been already 59 days now . When can I expect my visa?
It might take more time, as I received my visa after 65 days just 15 days before my university was about to start, so basically if they wanted to reject your visa they would have did it long ago, so they gave visa this late sometimes, because they might not want students to travel way ago before their university starts.
