Bruce Hammal announcing on Boxing Day 1978. Peter Woods' remark that he was going to enjoy Xmas now was because he was on duty on Xmas Day too. Points of View - 1st male voice Michael McLain & the 2nd was Astley Jones. Great seeing Carol Hersee playing O & X with Barry Took. Newsreader John Edmunds back for his final stint with the TV News team.

Anglia were indeed off the air until around tea-time. With the whole station being off-air, I assume there was some issue at Norwich rather than, or as well as, one of the transmitters? Anglia broadcasts to quite a wide patch of the country, with three main transmitting stations - so unless all three were down, there must have been power issues affecting the feed out of Anglia House. It’s also very unusual to see them join a programme in progress - Movie Memories is the type of show that would normally be played out locally.

I’m here because of Bob The Fish’s ITV in The Face video series! I was born in 1987 so I wasn’t around for Southern’s closure, but had I been around back then, I might’ve tuned into And It’s Goodbye From Us and upon finding out it was a temper tantrum and that they slandered TVS as part of it, I would’ve dipped in and out to mock them! All that cultural stuff is not my thing, so I would most likely have, just before midnight, turned over to the BBC for whatever they did for New Year on this occasion!

3:44 - The TV-am newsroom would remain open until 1st Feb 1992. This edition aired just two weeks after TV-am knew they had lost their franchise come 1st Jan 1993. The budget had been set for the 1991 - 1992 year, so when the new budget started on 1st Feb 1992, TV-am closed their newsroom and contracted their news output to Sky News for a one off fee of £500,000.
