Why do you use such dead colors Persian rugs? The whole exitement of Persian rugs are the story of nature n its beauty. Where in nature you find such dead colours?
Many very fine quality rugs are not used for walking over them. We have some under the glass coffee table, on the wall, on the tables, couch, or parts of the house that don't have traffic. As they are very fine n high quality, there is none of the signs you mentioned on them. How do you know if they are 100, 300, or 50 years old, considering, their very traditional pattern n material? Thank you.
Any guidance on how to mount a silk rug 9n the wall without damaging it?
So good. Thx😊
How many knots in a cm square etctct
Here’s a clue. If it smells like a camel has pissed on it, it’s too old. 😂
Why is there not a provenance on persian rugs as there are on paintings and other art work?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
To my eye, the completely flat colors, uniform back, and crude drawing indicate a mediocre rug of recent manufacture. I’m not convinced it is silk but perhaps mercerized cotton.
Thank you for sharing your brilliant unfolding of knowledge when it comes to the quality and knowledge of historical rugs. Very enlightening. Cheers! Darryl
how much?
Excellent description of how to determine the age of rugs. I have bought handmade rugs for over fifty years, at first new ones, then older ones. Interestingly, the fifty-year-old rugs barely show age at all. A professional washing every several years makes them sparkle. I have also had good-quality, machine-made , wall-to-wall carpets that barely lasted a dozen years. I later acquired vintage rugs, whose mellow colors I appreciate. Of course, the best way to determine age is to be acquainted with thousands of rugs of many different ages, as confirmed by the Catalina dealer.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s fantastic to hear about your journey with handmade and vintage rugs. Your insights on their durability and the value of professional washing are spot on. Vintage rugs indeed have a charm that machine-made carpets can’t match.
Thanks very much!
You're welcome!
So orryyyy does this😂😂
Greetings from Texas, Shawn. Good to see you. The 150 yo silk rug is indeed a treasure. It is fascinating to me how Oriental patterns resemble Native American designs, imo. And how natural dyes last for decades. I was at a furniture store recently where I marveled for some time with the beauty of carpets...even the man-made! Thanks for the tutorial.
Your Welcome! Yes it’s fascinating to see the similarities between Oriental patterns and Native American designs. The longevity of natural dyes is indeed impressive.
@@CatalinaRug I am so glad to confab with an expert, yourself, about an interest I have and respect. Persian carpets, railroads, water irrigation systems are things I have always been fascinated with.
Kashan silk rugs are no longer produced so I would guess it to be from the 1950-1970
This is a very informative and very nicely done segment. Didn't realize that Hriz (my preferred design) is third generation cousin of Bakhshayesh and Serapi. It would be nice to see films on the evolution of the other patterns. Placing the evolution of designs in the family groups makes the process of understanding Persian rugs much easier.
Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the segment and found it informative. It’s fascinating how designs like Heriz are connected to Bakhshayesh and Serapi. We’ll definitely consider creating more videos on the evolution of other patterns to further explore these family groups. Thanks for your suggestion
Very informative! Thanks
1. Узел 1,5 2. Узел 2 3. Узел 2 Узел 1,5 - асимметричный(персидский) Узел 2 - симметричный(турецкий)
Many thanks Do you have any presentation or tutos about Lilihan rugs or history ? As theses rugs are considered as part of hamadan rugs Is it correct ? Many thanks for your remarkable work ❤
Is the thickness of the wool yarn in rug wiving somehow regulated? It would be logical that, with the thinner yarn, you should be able to weave more detailed wool rugs. I don't believe that I have ever seen such rugs. Is cashmere ever used in rug wiving?
Simple, I ask my grandmother 😂
I presume that Kasmiri carpets are also persian knots as it was in the same cultural area. I also have a moroccan carpet. What type of knot is that?
I am also interested as my grandparents had bought rugs from Tunisia.
No. But I can tell you that the rugs are GORGEOUS!! ❤❤❤
1 - персидский, 2 и 3 турецкий узел
Asymmetrical?
Best explanation yet of the different types of knots.
Qashqais are Turks, not Arabs, not Lurs and not Kurds.
Very useful, thank you. 👍🏾
Plesse do not do that to persian rug. The rug in the video perhaps is k, but not a silk persian rug. You can only hang from the roots. Roots themselves need to be protected.
Please, please, PLEASE tell me ... what IS the first, white, natural fiber, most breathable wrapping material that you used to wrap the rug in this video? We’ve vacuumed, cleaned, and rolled our rugs. Now, I need to know, please, what is the material that I’ve asked you about. 🙏🏻 Anxiously awaiting your response. THANK YOU. 🙏🏻
IKEA sells Persian rugs made in Iran (apparently). Aren’t Persian rugs subject to sanctions ? Not sure how they manage to import them.
I Think I Can Scrubb The Rug With A Tampico Brush
no
So where does Heriz and Kerman etc. fall?
Great question. Heriz is considered a village Persian rug, we have a video on village Persian rugs here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXVotLNmh7PFhLQ.html Kerman is a traditional Persian rug, but we did not include it as one of the examples in this video. You can learn more about kerman rugs here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iaCBkrqNYsbNh6Q.html
Благодарю за видео! Действительно ли эти ковры износостойкие? В чем ценность шерстянной основы?
Is it possible and haw you can recognize with which kind of knot carpet was woven?
Yes we cover the topic in this guide and video: www.catalinarug.com/blog/how-persian-oriental-rugs-are-made/
Thank you very much for this video. I am obsessed with Persian rugs and culture. Love form Saudi Arabia.
Thanks for watching!
I have a great room which is a combination living and dining room. A large rug for each function separates them and adds visual interest. I prefer smaller rugs in the bedroom because I don’t want to conceal large parts of the rug under the bed. I find Herez rugs to be excellent in large sizes.
Great! Thanks! I just got a silk rug that is about 700+ knots per sq inch and has what looks like gold wire woven into parts of it. I was going to sell it, but now I'm going to keep it and hang it!
Glad I could help!
Excellent video.
Glad you liked it!
Thank you! It's just so expensive to buy these rugs in America due to sanctions. So the majority ends up being "Oriental."
it would help , if from th start you tell us on the two rugs you showed, which is the hadn made and which is macheine made to begin wtih
Great idea, we'll work on that for a future video
@@CatalinaRug I suppose that at 4:44 left is hand made and right is machine, no?
Interesting history
Sorta helpful yes. My rug is 25-30 years old. It's Tabriz patterned but made in China with wool and silk. It has been damaged in small patches by insects (moths likely). I now have to repair it and I don't like how the fringe gets damaged or color bleeds in the cleaning process. Lots of maintenance costs potentially!!!
Nice info, thx
Glad it was helpful!
I have that exact vacuum, real cleaning heads know the mighty mite
Thanks a bunch!
You're welcome!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
