I must say, being a Lions (Transvaal) supporter for four decades is very frustrating, in so far as they are situated in the most populated and richest province in South Africa with excellent rugby schools yet struggle to CONSISTENTLY win trophies always losing good players, but this is due to poor administration with the exception of Louis Luyt (R.I.P) and Kevin de Klerk.

@@gerhardcombrinck7026 I just wanted to say. Was a tough gig after Jannie Breedt retired to get the 8 jersey for Transvaal with Deon Lotter and Rudolf Straeuli there, and Francois Pienaar obviously played 6 which I think you also played. And just as it opened up with them leaving you had a career ending injury if I recall. But you were a very good player indeed! Thank you for the entertainment.

@christoduplessis8177 Those are very kind words, Christo-thank you. You're obviously a keen observer of the game and sport a great memory of a period many years ago. It was a wonderful privilege to play for a great team, and yes, Jannie Breedt certainly was one of the best rugby players (let alone no. 8's) of that era-I wish he received more credit.

@@gerhardcombrinck7026 I was very fortunate as a young boy that my mom worked at the union and thus we basically attended every game at Ellispark between 1991 and 1994. The 1992 Currie Cup final was tough but I also got to see the Boks play the ABs that same year. I had lots of time to go through those old rugby programs you bought before the games to remember the players from back then. Don't ask me today, not so clued up anymore. But blessed and awesome times to be a Transvaal fan in the early 90s 💪

Looking at the crowds here and currently I'd say south Africa has a bigger following for rugby at all levels ...new Zealand the other rugby power has seen it's attendances shrink to the extent that only the all blacks can promise a sell out

It could indeed be the case. However, this video is from the early 90's when club rugby was a thing. Not sure it enjoys the same level of favour with the public at the moment.

You naughty parsnip! This is actually the 1996 Super 12 game, round 11, 11 May 1996. Watching this took me back in pleasant ways. It revived a mystery as well. Transvaal looked like a team who should have been made for Super rugby - a strong forward pack and a high quality backline, but they really struggled. Some of it was probably 'rub of the green' as the competition was always closer than it looked. I do wonder if they had a 10 who could really light up that backline and perhaps the tight five lacked the mobility for this style of rugby, so that there was a bit of a disconnect between the loose trio and the rest. That was a fantastic QLD side. Morgan back from a weird excursion to League - a disaster. It turned out he went into his League stint with a neck injury and it reminds one that many cases of players seeming to be in poor form are because they are carrying injuries that don't stop them playing but do stop them playing at peak and if you are just a few points off peak, you look ordinary. As viewers we should be more tolerant with players who seem to be struggling.

Everything Uncle Mike is saying is 120% true- and I grew up in the Queens/New York Republican Political Machine. We came to the States in 1980- in 1984 I was attending Reagan's Inaugural Ball. But there were rules that one couldn't break- your mentors would have had you for a snack! That Vivian Kensington from LEGALLY BLONDE - I was her! I wore fake pearls since I was 18! And muted colors and argyle sweaters. These days there are no rules. Jenny Psaki makes a total idiot out of herself, the entire Antifa world is laughing at her- and she gets a promotion! Do you have any idea what Serphin Maltese or Joseph Kasper would have done to me if they ever caught me speaking " French "??? Then why did Victoria Nuland get away with saying, " F...EU ! " ??? Why is the descendant of an Odessa fishmonger is treated differently than me- who's the adoptive descendant of the man who basically WAS Odessa and Zhmerinka??? As far as Daddy was concerned I'm a true Lyulkin. He told me so! Not to return your client's phone call, all those false promises, all those " multiple projects in various stages of production " that don't exist de jure or de facto- this is not about show business anymore! It's everywhere. I agree with Uncle Mike- it's pure Satan because every bit of decency, every bit of love is being snuffed out.

Dan ook het Rudolph Strauli (Tukkies) en Philip Schutte (Tukkies) het eers vir die Bulle gespeel, en ook Charles en Chris Rousseau (Tukkies).
