Just a little reminder that Mishima was a literal fascist and a nostalgic of imperial Japan who tried to organise a military coup to overthrow the democratic government, and after seeing he failed he committed suicide by seppuku. I don't mean it implying that you shouldn't enjoy his literature, I myself loved Confessions of a mask, I felt it was precisely this dark and twisted character of the writer what made the story so special; I just think it is important to keep it in mind and reflect on separating the art from the artist, as the comment you made on him looking cool sounded a bit weird to me. Very nice list nonetheless!

I found a pristine copy of The Children's Book by A.S.Byatt for 1 Euro very close to when someone had just recommended it to me. Anna Karenina is definitely a good place to start with Tolstoy, but no need to be worried about War and Piece. It's fabulous and it reads like watching a telenovela most of the time.
