They do somewhat. Depending on the layout and how many ring boxes there are usually determines what character class I play. It's also something that helps me keep track of how much I use a particular character mostly. This is honestly the result of how busted Chao is in time attack, I don't want to oversaturate these videos with that character. I've also been neglecting a plethora of characters (for example, Jack Frost), so I try to give each of them a time in the spotlight regardless of how optimal they are for a particular map (the most optimal character usually being Chao).

How do you get such a small bounce underwater on Dragonspire Sewer without a miniturbo to force you down? Is there a downward current you're taking advantage of? These runs are nuts in general, though. Props to you for taking the kart kraft to a whole new level.

Not sure- I tried it out again this morning and it just worked similarly to what I did in the video. There is no indicator there that suggests a downward current, it might just be a result of me bouncing off an incline.

I don't plan on beating these special stages again. This video was made to showcase all the layouts of these stages on just so people knew what to expect from them going in. I knew the pain of having to restart an entire grand prix just to get one of these, so I had to rush this one out at the time (there weren't any videos at the time that featured all of them to my knowledge). The quality of this video is pretty bad, the strategies done here aren't the most optimal, and this version is pretty outdated. Though if you want to see how nerve-racking and challenging these emeralds were on its original release, this one still holds up in a way lol.

I'm glad people could learn from my videos^^ I would say it takes about 3 hours on average. It really just depends on the map though. For example, Azure Axiom took me almost 7 hours for me to get my run on it due to it being entirely underwater and a rush map. Also for most of these tracks, I've only played them for a handful of times through grand prix, so that might also influence how long I take on a particular level. If there are world record times, I do usually go for them. If you wish to see more strategies on these levels you could check out the Dr. Robotnik Ring Racers category on speedrun.com I hopefully this isn't too wordy^^

Tip for Venice (Invincible Cup's Sealed Star): If you use the Ballhog in just the right way, you can shotgun all 5 shots directly into the UFO and instantly break it open, although this does send the Emerald flying afterwards. You can also do a similar thing of shoveling a bunch of damage into the UFO on Gallery (S.P.B. Cup's Sealed Star) by throwing all your Gachaboms at once. Also a tip for Rooftops (Lightning Cup's Sealed Star -- AKA the infamously difficult one): The ending section is actually very easy with the right technique. I already replied to a comment on this same video about this same strat, but here it is again (copy-pasted cause I'm lazy): Just before the gap, if you keep going down the slope right next to the edge of the platform (at least a little bit of your kart should be sticking out over the edge) and go IN A STRAIGHT LINE, when you get to the gap, you'll perfectly stay on solid ground all the way to the end. I tried this in practice and it has literally worked perfectly every single time.

TIP: In a regular race, you can type in the console (be sure to bind a keybind to it to access it) "map sealed star <1-16> -force" to practice on that map. If there are other players in your server, you can race against them on the maps too! I would recommend AT MOST 4 players for Sealed Star Zone, however.

On the first map I play, do you see that blue aura that surrounds my character before I pass through the gate? That allows me to bypass it. You can get that blue aura from boostpads/sneakers or when your sliptide (that spiral thing that hovers over my character) ends while moving at a high enough speed (200%) I hope this helps^^

Late, but the underwater isn’t bad, the only difference is that you have to take turns differently, and you fall slower. You drive at the same speed underwater. Also, you can’t drown. I’ve tried.

Before the go onto the slanted area, there’s ring boxes in a line - follow them and then turn to the right as you go near the top spikes and you should arrive the red springs. Alternatively, go immediately left and touch the SPB weapon, then follow along the top most part of the section avoiding the spikes.

Curious, does the characters has anything to do with the times?
They do somewhat. Depending on the layout and how many ring boxes there are usually determines what character class I play. It's also something that helps me keep track of how much I use a particular character mostly. This is honestly the result of how busted Chao is in time attack, I don't want to oversaturate these videos with that character. I've also been neglecting a plethora of characters (for example, Jack Frost), so I try to give each of them a time in the spotlight regardless of how optimal they are for a particular map (the most optimal character usually being Chao).
Those little wiggles to build up your Wavedash on Daytona were crazy. I've been wondering if 'snaking' for them was viable, suppose I know now!

Does anyone know how to unlock the Super cup? I beat flame cup and got the emerald but didn't unlock it? I checked the wiki and it said I had to beat Extra. If anyone knows I'd appreciate the help!

How do you get such a small bounce underwater on Dragonspire Sewer without a miniturbo to force you down? Is there a downward current you're taking advantage of? These runs are nuts in general, though. Props to you for taking the kart kraft to a whole new level.
Not sure- I tried it out again this morning and it just worked similarly to what I did in the video. There is no indicator there that suggests a downward current, it might just be a result of me bouncing off an incline.

I don't plan on beating these special stages again. This video was made to showcase all the layouts of these stages on just so people knew what to expect from them going in. I knew the pain of having to restart an entire grand prix just to get one of these, so I had to rush this one out at the time (there weren't any videos at the time that featured all of them to my knowledge). The quality of this video is pretty bad, the strategies done here aren't the most optimal, and this version is pretty outdated. Though if you want to see how nerve-racking and challenging these emeralds were on its original release, this one still holds up in a way lol.

Just stumbled across your channel yesterday and I am learning so much from watching your time attacks! Thanks so much for documenting this. How long do you usually spend labbing one map before you're happy enough with it to move on to the next?
I'm glad people could learn from my videos^^ I would say it takes about 3 hours on average. It really just depends on the map though. For example, Azure Axiom took me almost 7 hours for me to get my run on it due to it being entirely underwater and a rush map. Also for most of these tracks, I've only played them for a handful of times through grand prix, so that might also influence how long I take on a particular level. If there are world record times, I do usually go for them. If you wish to see more strategies on these levels you could check out the Dr. Robotnik Ring Racers category on speedrun.com I hopefully this isn't too wordy^^
The only thing keeping me in these stages is the music because otherwise these can go dust away never to be seen again
Tip for Venice (Invincible Cup's Sealed Star): If you use the Ballhog in just the right way, you can shotgun all 5 shots directly into the UFO and instantly break it open, although this does send the Emerald flying afterwards. You can also do a similar thing of shoveling a bunch of damage into the UFO on Gallery (S.P.B. Cup's Sealed Star) by throwing all your Gachaboms at once. Also a tip for Rooftops (Lightning Cup's Sealed Star -- AKA the infamously difficult one): The ending section is actually very easy with the right technique. I already replied to a comment on this same video about this same strat, but here it is again (copy-pasted cause I'm lazy): Just before the gap, if you keep going down the slope right next to the edge of the platform (at least a little bit of your kart should be sticking out over the edge) and go IN A STRAIGHT LINE, when you get to the gap, you'll perfectly stay on solid ground all the way to the end. I tried this in practice and it has literally worked perfectly every single time.

TIP: In a regular race, you can type in the console (be sure to bind a keybind to it to access it) "map sealed star <1-16> -force" to practice on that map. If there are other players in your server, you can race against them on the maps too! I would recommend AT MOST 4 players for Sealed Star Zone, however.

How do you go through the electric gates with no items? That'd be very useful to know.
On the first map I play, do you see that blue aura that surrounds my character before I pass through the gate? That allows me to bypass it. You can get that blue aura from boostpads/sneakers or when your sliptide (that spiral thing that hovers over my character) ends while moving at a high enough speed (200%) I hope this helps^^
How many damn hits does it take to break open the capsule the UFO Catcher holds?
I believe it's usually six on the first try I think the only exception to this is special stage 8 (S.P.B Cup)

Funnily enough, as of patch 2.2, Sealed Star 4 swapped places with Sealed Star 2.

Late, but the underwater isn’t bad, the only difference is that you have to take turns differently, and you fall slower. You drive at the same speed underwater. Also, you can’t drown. I’ve tried.
got to the final special stage and dude i have no clue how you're supposed to consistently do the part at 21:52. thank god the egg cup is mostly a pushover though because the ai have trouble with the tracks
Before the go onto the slanted area, there’s ring boxes in a line - follow them and then turn to the right as you go near the top spikes and you should arrive the red springs. Alternatively, go immediately left and touch the SPB weapon, then follow along the top most part of the section avoiding the spikes.
God, me too. There's no clear path, there's so many spots to fall off at, and those spikes at the end are just an outright "fuck you". I get that this is supposed to be hard, but that is absolute bullshit.
