    This was a really solid look at the game! I played through the first game not that long ago, and had quite a similar experience. Though I found the higher-difficulty exploitative strategies for nights 6/7 to be fun in their own way, enough to make up for the lack of tension that breaking the AI causes. And I'm at a similar impasse - I was able to beat 4/20 in time for a refund, but I feel torn between wanting to toy around with the lets play bait of my teen years, and supporting a terrible dude. I know you said you weren't interested in future games, but I do think you'd offer a really solid perspective on future entries. Unsurprisingly most of the people who bother to cover the newer games tend to be devout fans/haters, and there's not much in the way of new perspectives critically breaking down the failing horror of the series. It's an issue I find myself thinking of a lot, and you touched on it here quite nicely.

    Man, what a great video. I especially appreciate that you drew attention to Warpath's menus! That was always one of my favorite aspects of the game, the menus were so atmospheric and moody! It always made child me want to explore and see the world that the game was setting up! There was something so... eerie about that ambiance! I put so many hours into Warpath as a kid! Honestly, that period in between Jurassic Park and during The Lost World was such a magical part of the 90's to be a child in- the Playstation 1 Game, the Arcade game, the commercials and Trespasser- Man. Great toys, atmospheric game settings and just a wonderful time to let your imagination run wild! I appreciate your videos for bringing that period to light with the games!

    PS1/PS2 era graphics are my favorite aesthetic, hands down. Makes creativity in other ways to make up for it mandatory. Always a huge charm to these games, and I love watching your reviews of these sort of games! Been following you for awhile. Looking forward to new content! Hopefully with more older games! :P

    Tbh the unpredictable nature of guards and NPCs is sort of realistic. And it even happened in Hitman: Blood Money that on some high notoriety runs no one could recognise the literal international terrorist that got caught on camera shooting up a presidential parade. Yet, other times I simply launch the level and can't take 2 steps before some fat tourist's neurons synapse in time for him to get incredibly genre savvy and yell "Jesus Christ! it's that psycho killer from the TV! run for your lives!" as if he knows him and his wife are about to become a fucking statistic.

    Great game and I picked it up for £0.49 on PS Store so an absolute steal. However not implementing inverted Y-axis option made it very frustrating for me as I have to actively think how I look around which broke the immersion for me at times. I also think if the dev went for the deliberately lo-fi 3D aesthetic then a 4:3 aspect ratio would have worked better as would some CRT overlay to smoothen the graphics a bit. A game with this style of graphics when played on a big screen in a living room setting tends to be a bit grating on the senses to be honest. This is nit-picking though, the game is great.

    I always liked the GameGear version. Nice variety, not too difficult, and you could actually get through it on six AAs. I also found the general game design more competent than many of the 16- bit offerings. It's strange that they left this one off the Classic Games Collection as it's easily better than most of them. Must've been a Sega licensing issue.

    The fact that there ARE female guards, already breaks your point completely. If the game was sexist, they would ACTUALLY be only objects and stereotypes.

    I never really liked Amnesia The Dark Descent nor found it to be scary. The moment I realized the game was never going to put me into a position I could not run or hide from all fear went away. I found Dead Space 2 significantly scarier. This Amnesia seems more in line with what I would want from the series.

    You describing the game loop as basically incursions where you come back with resources on a somewhat limited time is the closest I'll ever be to playing one of those games. Which means I will absolutely never in my whole life come close to even considering it, but hey, it does sound neat.

    26:40 that animation is only shown if you haven't yet eliminated all the guards on the ship. Also, the aiming problem you mentioned is there because you're not aiming from your eye to the target, as with most FPS games, but from 47's body to the target, if that makes sense.

    29:06 In RU dub that guy is voiced by the guy that voiced a bunch of other characters from so many other games that it was almost a meme that he voiced every single piece of media in existence He did good job, that guard was certainly one of the most memorable parts of the game.

    This was the definitive game of my childhood. It usually flies under a lot of peoples radar so I always enjoy watching well produced videos on it. The second game in this trilogy has MUCH better combat. But it's also a complete edgelord fest. But in a fun and zany kind of way.

    Hey Monotom! I've loved all your videos and am eager to see what you do next, whether it's "shorter" videos like this or more deep dives like the JP videos. I don't always 100% agree with your analysis, but that's part of the fun to hear how you walked into something you thought wouldn't be for you to give it a fair shake, and enjoy listening to you all the same. Although I will agree sometimes The Witness does go a bit too far at navel gazing, with The Looker even using most of the same monologue about the captain of a ship before turning it on its head. Since you've mentioned in things like Stay Out of the House about other "stalker enemy" games like Alien Isolation, I'd be curious as to if you've tried Amensia the Bunker or other games of that ilk. Or for something more psychological, something like Fear and Hunger (if you can get past the issue of YT censorship). Keep up the awesome videos, I'm looking forward to more!

    @monotonallizardАй бұрын

    Thanks! You're in luck, I recently played Amnesia: The Bunker and have a bit to say about it so that'll be the next video. Otherwise Alien: Isolation is still the gold standard for that kind of game. The recent Resident Evils have been kind of disappointing to me but the original Resident Evil 3 scratches the same sort of itch, even if it's very rough around the edges these days. Fear and Hunger is a game I really don't like due to the RNG of the coin flips, though the setting and presentation is super interesting.

    Thanks for this. It's a rare treat to see so much love shown to one of my all-time favourite games. But I feel like I have to come to the defence of the mouse and keyboard here. 😂 I've played through the game (and the sequels) several times with no issues. The descending wall jumps are just a matter of timing (no directional keys). It's different that when you're going up, which might throw some people off. Not being able to rewind time immediately after the last attempt is also a game mechanic. The combat is definitively the weakest part of the game. Some of the fights are hairy, but it's mostly a case of figuring out which attack certain enemies can't evade. Like If you can't vault over them, do the wall attack. Aside from the repetitiveness, I feel like it's pretty well balanced in that it's not too hard once you figure it out, but a room full of the big blue guys still makes me nervous. The library is my favourite part of the game, and at least for me the platforming puzzles have held up with every replay. It's the way those silent sections allow you to feel how eerie and desolate the palace is, and how wonderful it is to have someone there keeping you company. Every game with puzzle sections should come with a companion like Farah. I think the romance is handled beautifully. Yes, it's quick, but they're two naive teenagers with romantic ideals going through a very traumatic experience where they're the only survivors. They not only have to rely on each other, but are terrified of being left alone. Farah reveals her feelings after she's been separated from the Prince and attacked by more sand monsters than she could handle. It's not intended to be a mature love. Likewise, the prince is immature and insecure enough to interpret the visions as Farah betraying him.
