Honestly, in my opinion the pacing is terrible in the start because they kinda, just assume you know all the characters because you either read the manga or watched the original
I've never gotten that impression. This is usually an argument made in bad faith by 2003/manga fans.

Some good shit comming up
The pacing in Brotherhood, especially at the start, is done very carefully. For the first dozen or so episodes they're covering content already animated in the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime, so rather than re-animating the 20+ episodes people might've already seen they compressed them and made some cuts. Personally I think they do a fantastic job of presenting you with frankly quite a lot of information in a short time, while still being narratively compelling and easy to follow.
This episode made me terrified of death.

After how wacky and quick all the previous episodes were, I really liked the finale, and the whole joke was that it was a big nothing.
The letter Leif wrote to Andrias tells me that they were more than just friends I think they loved each other Andrias blushes and looked away during Leifs dance, the secret messages to each other, Andrias the frist to rush to Leif after she fell to her hands and knees after the vission, the worried look on his face, Leif crying into Andrias, Andrias the one that took her betrayl the hardest and his blushing tears in his eyes and scraming her name when she left, and Leif dubbing her self as "your Leif" and her calling him my derest Andrias and saying I wish my love will reach you. Also in the painting Andrias and Leif are looking at eachother and there is a art that Matt Braly did Andrias Berral and Leif are back together and they are on his sholders and Andrias and Leif are looking at eachother. There was and still is something more than just friendship between Andrias and Leif.

Oh, don't worry the triangle will be resolve this season! Bolin is the Todd of the show, is so true but don't think he's just a side character, he's probably one of the most developped after Tenzin and Korra, just be patient he just needs to realize his true potential. Season 2 fisrt half is good: some people didn't like it because there are not a lot of actions and they didn't understand Korra's behaviour. Plus, the return of the love triangle too. It's only the creator's decision to do something in the 2 last episode that they didn't forgive but it's not that bad. ATLA's fans can be toxic and so they boycotted LOK for this particular decision and blamed Korra of imaginary issues. This decision is understandable due to the fact season 2 was supposed to be the final season of Avatar like the season 1 was supposed to be too. Without season 2, we wouldn't have the excellent season 3 & 4. Season 3 is considered the best season of ALL the Avatar's universe, ATLA included. The next 2 episodes will give you new perspective of this season and they are considered favorite episode of LOK and for some of all the franchise too!

I was also so convinced that they would make a plot out of the egg telling Pentious and tensed up when they showed them getting ready for bed... thank god Pentious is a dumbass 😅 Also, I'm a bit sad you didn't like Whatever It Takes that much, it's legit one of my top 3 and most of that is because of Carmilla's voice. I'm so glad you were able to pick up on the emotionality of this show, which is really one of its greatest strengths. There are probably multitudes of essay videos on youtube that examine it better than I could, but the voice talent, the music, the obstacles the characters have to overcome, and their failures along the way give this show such a potency that touches the heart, beyond just the nostalgia element.

5:00 I think the setting was actually the thing most people disliked about LoK. Some people thought it was unrealistic that society and technology could have developed so much in so short a time, but they ignore the real world history of the time between the American Civil War and the end of WW2. Society was nearly unrecognizable in that 70-80 year time span. It also makes sense in the context of multiple cultures coming together with their own expertise and bending abilities collaborating to developing a city.
I've seen Lin getting her bending taking away so many times, but I still tear up. The combination of her sacrifice for the airbenders with the beautiful music makes it heartbreaking
just finnished watching this show today, maybe the best episode of animation
I would highly recommend Hunter x Hunter (2011) if you decide to check out more anime. It too deals with a lot of questions about morality and is just overall super solid with great characters, an amazing story, and fantastic music.

the final episode of season 1 is my favourite in the whole show, it was just so drastically not what i expected, as soon as the credits rolled and i realized that was barely even one comedic moment in the entire episode made me laugh harder than anything before or after
