    What those yellow posts ?.

    I assume they are to protect newly planted trees. They aren't the traditional ones, though - they look to be heavier duty, maybe because the boar are likely to knock over the lighter ones. You'd can't see it very well, but there is also protection around the bottom of the telegraph pole because boar love to rub against them and can cause damage.

    I read that the bearded pig had been killed off by a disease in Borneo; so wonderful to see one up close and active, here. They have exceptionally long snouts, I think.

    I didn't know that, but yes, it seems they have suffered badly as a result of African Swine Fever since I was there. I don't know whether there are still pigs around this lodge, but it was remote, so hopefully the disease won't have reached them.

    I was asking when i get the African wild cat for a pet can i let him roam outdoors and do he have homing instinct cause i was thinking about getting one i seen him on a pet site

  • @BrianPwildlife

    Having seen this one hunt, I wouldn't want it as a pet, but I don't know enough about the species to say if it's possible to tame a kitten, or whether it is legal to own one. If you manage it, let us know.

    Sorry to bother you but I was wondering can you leave one outside like regular cats once they get use to you cause I heard domestic cats came from them and I ran passed them on a site and I said I was thinking about getting me one they looked tight to me

  • @BrianPwildlife

    As far as I know, it's just the two species of stink badger that live in Asia. There are a few other species in the old world (eg. polecats) that have similar defence mechanisms, but only those two in the skunk family.

    I have just finished watching Sir Richard Attenborough on Frozen Planet. Due to the fast melting Antarctica, these beautiful Adelie penguins are rapidly becoming extinct. In the 1970s they lived in their thousands and now only in their hundreds. A scientist who has been studying them since 1974 could not hold back the tears whilst discussing their history and future. They currently exist in such small numbers it upsets me knowing that climate change is responsible. No, actually the human population is responsible.

    I don't think dormice like that their names remind people that they are edible. Do we call rats and mice edible too? I mean, you CAN eat them

  • @BrianPwildlife
    @BrianPwildlife Жыл бұрын

    Well, I guess the difference is that you can order a cooked edible dormouse in a restaurant if you go to the right place, but they don't normally serve rat... The alternative English name is 'fat dormouse', so they may prefer 'edible'!
