Hello and Welcome!
I'm Bob and these are my Odd Jobs. I really believe in fixing what you have unless it's beyond help. Its good for you, the environment and your wallet.
First off I'm just a regular guy with a beautiful wife and a handful of children. I fix most thing around the house. I also invest in things that save money and energy. I want to share what I've learned to help you. I've fixed many types of appliances and electronics. I've also done a lot of my own home renovation. I'm not a trained professional in any of those categories but I love to do it! I actually work in the medical field and do my best to fix people as well.
I'm open to questions and suggestions. You can send me a comment in my videos or discussion, I look forward to hearing from you!
Enjoy :)

How do you get the little oval pieces out? Just tried with a glasses screwdriver and it’s denting the plastic. My kid dropped it from the top bunk so the button on top needs to get fixed…
Hey Seinesein, I used a very small screwdriver. I caused some small dents in those plugs but it's only a minor cosmetic issue. If it bothers you, you could carefully cut white electrical tape in circles to cover the damaged plugs afterwards. Unfortunately this clock isn't ment to be serviced so the manufacturer would put those plugs in thinking they are permanent. Hope that helps Take Care
@@bobsoddjobs thank you for the speedy response! Too bad they aren’t meant to be serviced, these clocks seem designed to get dropped a lot (only in my house maybe)
But do you catch the queen because if you are just catching the explorers it doesn’t solve the problem.
Also, according to a lot of references, they go for protein early/ mid summer; towards late summer and fall they prefer sugar. Canned chicken is recommended as a protein bait.
What a waste of time and materials, simply drill a 10mm/3/8ths hole in the top of the bottle, put in sugar water, sit on the ground or a fence post, sorted, should get about 100 wasps per day in each.
I got one for $3 from a thrift store on the weekend. Great for $3. For $70 I would expect a lot more.
What is the depth of the predrilled rail holes? Trying to figure out with my measurements what size ballisters I need.
Hey, Honestly I did this a few years ago now and I can't remember. If I were to estimate, they're probably an inch deep. Hope that helps Take care
@bobsoddjobs thanks! yes you were right. I'm installing this on a sliding gate kit using a 42" high kit on a 45" railing will be lifted up a bit on rolling wheels
coloquei minha cama de casal pra cima e vou fazer essa escada detesto cheiro de mofo e embaixo o espaço virou cabideiro esta arejado e com sol otimo
vou fazer
I tried this and not one wasp. I'm so shocked I thought for sure it would of worked. I did the water and jam and apple juice and jam and not one customer. .....??
I'm sorry to hear this. Maybe try putting it in a different location? You could also try putting a small smear of jam on the opening of the trap to lure them in.
It only caught flys only😢
Yeah i dont wanna kill bees
I would try without the soap, they likely wont get out anyway. And if they survive longer, another wasp may try to help out
I've used similar traps in the past, and got best results with boring orange juice. The soap doesn't deter them?
Hey Tony, The soap seems to work ok. You only need the tiniest drop. I should try the orange juice to see how it works Take Care :)
Please let us know how this product has held up? (It doesn't seem to be galvanized from online info, just powder painted) My area is very damp, so I'm trying to find a galvanized type, no luck so far. Also, the MFR site Pylex, has an installation video now. Thanks
Hey John, It's held up pretty well. There is definitely some rust happening on the screws and a few other spots but I think it's easy enough to paint. My main concern is the wheels. We get quite a bit of snow here so they are wet a lot of the time. They squeek and there's rust around the bearings. My main worry is where the heck am I going to find replacements when these give out...? Otherwise the family love the gate. It easy for the kids to open, keeps the dog at bay and is nice and wide. Take Care :)
Ty
OK just so you know , all adult wasps you see in spring are not carnivorous they can only drink sugar nectar etc.. There young in the nest later in the year eat meat and produce a liquid the adults feed on.. When a wasp changes from a grub into an adult wasp/hornet it's waste shrinks that's why adult wasps / hornets can no longer digest meat.. Trap the Queens in spring using apple juice syrup etc that will cut down the nests..
u are suchh a lifesaver.. im indeed trying to save as im bout to start renting a studio and this would add as an Extra points for accommodation space..god bless your soul!
You can add a little baker's yeast to make the juices ferment and smell even more. That's what all these insects love, the smell of rotting fruit to know that it's ripe, sweet and juicy.
Bro ,your showing us after you put it together lol we want to see you do it
Hey Bro, My goal was to show you all the steps. Putting it together is your job :) Take Care :)
Important to add vinegar te repel bees
good idea i will build something like that
HMM
Dont make it too sweet as honey bees will be attracked. Think- how sweet is honey?
I usually just use an electric fly swatter until the rest of the squad stings my face
wtf tye the fking bottle to branch , leave the bottle whole, the wasp crawl into bottle but cant fly out , this is joke
The only thing I saw going in your trap was honey bees.
Sure looked like honey bees to me too. Maybe his wasps are tiny. Mine you can always tell cause their legs are just hanging all evil'ly
This is perfect thank you I will be making two sets of these for my lofts in my shed to home!
Thanks dog got stung had to go to vet expensive
Do u actually know the difference between a wasp and a bee
Hey does this work for those Red Stinging Wasps?
Did you have to drill holes in the side for the slide to attach to? The side bar where ours attach does not have the holes.
Hey Josh, I didn't need to do any drilling. Hopefully you can finagle something to get the side attached Take Care :)
Is this hard to built ?
Nope, you just need time and patience :)
What's the purpose of the tape?
Im trying to do this but have no idea what to even do i cant see what ur doinh
Mr bob i need ur help
Hey, The hardest part is cutting the wood. Once you have it all cut, make sure you level and square everything as you put it all together. Hope that helps
My sienna 2011 passenger side tire moves and sound weird when i hit and release the brakes could be lower arms?
Hey, Without seeing your van, that sounds like a sway bar link or strut. If you can safely check under your car and see if anything is loose maybe you'll get a better idea
@2:25 I'd probably leave too if I stumbled across a Colossal Titan taking a video of a bunch of giant see-through chambers that contained the corpses of my loved ones.
And what about when they want protein, not sugar? And what about making a homemade poison they’ll take back to the nest?
My 12 yo grandson and I built the bed but we couldn't figure out stairs the way I wanted. This is mostly what I had in mind, except i have a window to work the 1st step around. My grandson is pretty tall so I'm going to make taller steps and less of them ❤
I don’t know if the newer Mella’s have been updated, but we just purchased one and the clock has 3 brightness levels for the nightlight, and the “yellow” light (referred to in the instructions as “play mode”) can be adjusted (from 30 minutes up to 3 hours) or disabled.
What kind of screws did you use to anchor to the wall like the length of the
Hey, I used wall anchoring bolts. I have concrete, so they were concrete wall anchor bolts. If you have studs you can use wood lug bolts. Make sure they're heavy duty enough to hold the weight of whoever is on the bed. Take care :)
I noticed you switched sides of the slide. Is that why you had to redo the slide frame because you put it on backwards? I guess the slide only goes on one side. I’m in the middle of doing a swing set and I have mine set up like you did in the beginning. I reckon I’m going to have to switch sides 😅
This past summer of 2023, they mostly came to raspberry jam water, strawberry jam water and Orange Crush soda.
Hello .... is it strawberry jam ?
Probably. Or even raspberry.
Most of the issues described have always had a solution. I bought mine 4 years ago for my baby girl and it always had 3 brightness levels and the ability to remove the yellow light 30 mins before the wake up time. For the battery issue, I replaced the battery with a rechargeable one and it seems to be keeping the charge forever now. I think it's a genuine design flaw where the battery is indeed inline with the power instead of a backup, so the battery gets discharged fast. However, that flaw is actually a good charging mechanism for my rechargeable battery.
Motts apple juice. Done.
What time of year did you set out your traps? Here in TN, red paper wasps bombard my shed and porch in the spring but even more so in October. I've been stung and my dog was stung all in the last week! I have a garden so don't want to risk hurting any pollinators but these red paper wasps have got to go. I think they have nested inside my shed roof under the new tin and old roof.
Thankyou. I will try this NOW! I have several black wasps flying around my patio and I’m afraid to go out there to turn the water on to water my citrus trees. There are so many flying around. Thank you for testing the different solutions. Hope I don’t get stung putting up the trap ha ha. 😳
These look great. I got the lumber for this project, except, my daughter wants 'cubby's'. A standard cubby is 12", with cubby bins/baskets measuring 11". I have to adjust heights of steps to allow them to fit and, of course, add 1 X 12's to divide up individual cubby boxs. Still using your pattern, though. Thx
I made a cool trap by just leaving my pint jar of Irish cream (half gone) sitting out on the picnic table for a couple of days and caught all kinds of bugs.
It also depends on the time of year. They go for protein, assist and alcohol at different times
