Bob's Odd Jobs

Bob's Odd Jobs

Hello and Welcome!

I'm Bob and these are my Odd Jobs. I really believe in fixing what you have unless it's beyond help. Its good for you, the environment and your wallet.

First off I'm just a regular guy with a beautiful wife and a handful of children. I fix most thing around the house. I also invest in things that save money and energy. I want to share what I've learned to help you. I've fixed many types of appliances and electronics. I've also done a lot of my own home renovation. I'm not a trained professional in any of those categories but I love to do it! I actually work in the medical field and do my best to fix people as well.

I'm open to questions and suggestions. You can send me a comment in my videos or discussion, I look forward to hearing from you!
Enjoy :)

How do you get the little oval pieces out? Just tried with a glasses screwdriver and it’s denting the plastic. My kid dropped it from the top bunk so the button on top needs to get fixed…

  • @bobsoddjobs

Hey Seinesein, I used a very small screwdriver. I caused some small dents in those plugs but it's only a minor cosmetic issue. If it bothers you, you could carefully cut white electrical tape in circles to cover the damaged plugs afterwards. Unfortunately this clock isn't ment to be serviced so the manufacturer would put those plugs in thinking they are permanent. Hope that helps Take Care

@@bobsoddjobs thank you for the speedy response! Too bad they aren’t meant to be serviced, these clocks seem designed to get dropped a lot (only in my house maybe)

Also, according to a lot of references, they go for protein early/ mid summer; towards late summer and fall they prefer sugar. Canned chicken is recommended as a protein bait.

What a waste of time and materials, simply drill a 10mm/3/8ths hole in the top of the bottle, put in sugar water, sit on the ground or a fence post, sorted, should get about 100 wasps per day in each.

Please let us know how this product has held up? (It doesn't seem to be galvanized from online info, just powder painted) My area is very damp, so I'm trying to find a galvanized type, no luck so far. Also, the MFR site Pylex, has an installation video now. Thanks

  • @bobsoddjobs
    @bobsoddjobsАй бұрын

Hey John, It's held up pretty well. There is definitely some rust happening on the screws and a few other spots but I think it's easy enough to paint. My main concern is the wheels. We get quite a bit of snow here so they are wet a lot of the time. They squeek and there's rust around the bearings. My main worry is where the heck am I going to find replacements when these give out...? Otherwise the family love the gate. It easy for the kids to open, keeps the dog at bay and is nice and wide. Take Care :)

OK just so you know , all adult wasps you see in spring are not carnivorous they can only drink sugar nectar etc.. There young in the nest later in the year eat meat and produce a liquid the adults feed on.. When a wasp changes from a grub into an adult wasp/hornet it's waste shrinks that's why adult wasps / hornets can no longer digest meat.. Trap the Queens in spring using apple juice syrup etc that will cut down the nests..

You can add a little baker's yeast to make the juices ferment and smell even more. That's what all these insects love, the smell of rotting fruit to know that it's ripe, sweet and juicy.

I don’t know if the newer Mella’s have been updated, but we just purchased one and the clock has 3 brightness levels for the nightlight, and the “yellow” light (referred to in the instructions as “play mode”) can be adjusted (from 30 minutes up to 3 hours) or disabled.

I noticed you switched sides of the slide. Is that why you had to redo the slide frame because you put it on backwards? I guess the slide only goes on one side. I’m in the middle of doing a swing set and I have mine set up like you did in the beginning. I reckon I’m going to have to switch sides 😅

Most of the issues described have always had a solution. I bought mine 4 years ago for my baby girl and it always had 3 brightness levels and the ability to remove the yellow light 30 mins before the wake up time. For the battery issue, I replaced the battery with a rechargeable one and it seems to be keeping the charge forever now. I think it's a genuine design flaw where the battery is indeed inline with the power instead of a backup, so the battery gets discharged fast. However, that flaw is actually a good charging mechanism for my rechargeable battery.

What time of year did you set out your traps? Here in TN, red paper wasps bombard my shed and porch in the spring but even more so in October. I've been stung and my dog was stung all in the last week! I have a garden so don't want to risk hurting any pollinators but these red paper wasps have got to go. I think they have nested inside my shed roof under the new tin and old roof.

These look great. I got the lumber for this project, except, my daughter wants 'cubby's'. A standard cubby is 12", with cubby bins/baskets measuring 11". I have to adjust heights of steps to allow them to fit and, of course, add 1 X 12's to divide up individual cubby boxs. Still using your pattern, though. Thx
