the real dialectic ... 'merging of apparent opposites' as synthesis ...
exactly ... fake food, fake life, fake spirituality, fake 'satisfaction', vs real life, real food, real spirituality, real relationships ... authentic : )
will you be building some yurt-like structure from local materials? I love that you have mechanical technology ... minimal ... would love to see a vid showing all the tools available that are best for doing all the things permaculture requires, without need for complicated machinery, repairs i.e to really be 'low tech' but function ... which machetes are best value, scythes, what other tools will 'get the job done' and last forever, and not require any specialised parts or servicing i.e really off grid, so no need to rely on 'the system' ... is there a simple way to make woodchips? ... which saws, machetes, korean hoes etc best, and where to get ... and what tools best for keeping them 'sharp' etc ... anyway, love that you keep all those kittens ... really, your life is more rewarding and interesting and satisfying than all the supposed 'best life' youtube vids ... plastic lives, plastic people, meaningless... all the drama you need is there, when you live with pets, gardening, LIVING a REAL life ... anyway, great work...thanks and all the best : )
could you get some geese or ducks to control the slugs? keep them as companion colleagues ... provide them safety, and they do their thing, and you benefit symbiotically
Omg.. depressing 😭
That's not vipassana. Im from sri lanka.
Mooi om te zien hoe jullie daar wonen en leven Siebren! Tot gauw in jullie yurt!
very inspiring. I feel like i'm in the same position and moving into something like this life style would be great.

Why did you pick Tsukuba rather than unis located in Tokyo? Also main pros/cons of doing an exchange in Tsukuba compared to in Tokyo itself?
I could pick between chiba and tsukuba because they are partner universities with the uni I was at in the Netherlands. I went for tsukuba because there were more people there that I already knew, and my mentor recommended it to me because he was a teacher there. I don't know what it's like to do an exchange in Tokyo, but Tsukuba is a lot more peaceful than Tokyo.
Funny guy
Its dangerous to do this. Social isolation, sensory deprivation , sleep deprivation, NLP hypnosis , painful stress positions , restricted diet especially protein . Do you know what language or thoughts was implanted in to your subconscious in Pali? Glad it worked out for you , but as I said its potentially dangerous
Thanks for your concern. What do you think is their intention behind setting the program up?
I am very shy and avoid meeting and talking to people and therefore are often alone. I have told myself something is wrong with me genetically like I’m lacking something. This also goes for when I struggle with things, meet challenges and compare myself to others. I can often find evidence for how I lack things compared to others, even in my childhood I can find evidence for why I’m behind today and I think has been constant. At the same time I have developed but think of this too little, only someone in my family has reminded me that I have improved. I think this is a way to not cope with having to work hard through this problem. I’ve heard that self critique is a coping mechanism or something to get a quick explanation to why you fail. It’s a easy why out instead of working hard, even though it doesn’t help you at all. This was interesting to hear, I guess this can show that I want to be less worthy because it makes me not need to work through my issues. It’s a trick that says “why bother if it’s not possible anyway”, or “you don’t have good genes or a brain, so why try in the first place”. But this is unlogical because if you struggle then you should work on improvement. Sorry for long text but this became a reflection as well. Thank you for sharing this video, understanding the mind is so nice because it also changes the way we see ourselves and gives more hope that we really can improve
Thank you for your long thoughts. It can be quite helpful to write them out sometimes! I hear what you're saying. You seem analytical and smart enough to figure out a way to fix your problems. I trust you can do it. Sometimes the answer can come in an unexpected way, you don't see it coming.
fantastic summary!
Thank you! Hope you learned something useful :)
Nice! Ming would love it!
He seemed totally in flow last sunday!
Music is good
I didn’t know I needed this. I am 18, I was feeling lost, this actually opened my eyes. Thanks for the video
Glad it is valuable!
haha mentale piemol
Makes sense as I have noticed what I eat affects my mood.. When I havent eaten junk food for a long time and say I fasted longer than I should have due to work etc I have this overwhelming urge to eat junk food as opposed to a healthy meal but I noticed like you said its taken me a while but am slowly weining myself away from that feeling and dont get it as much anymore and I find dont crave those foods like I used to ever since I started eating non processed foods and meat
Exactly, it’s a good realisation that it’s not “you” that has the cravings but your body getting used to the changes. It adds some understanding and self empathy
You’re in a Mongolian ger 🤭✨
Haha yes I am! More about that in future videos
just an advice : lower the background music, you have a good voice.
Thanks! Will do
Very good video
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for sharing your experience Siebren! Being. Is. Now. 💛
Being. Is. Wow.
@@siebrendevos haha, well done. Awesome! 🙌
I love how you used the term "hybrid life". It's exactly what i was talking about with the monks in Thailand and Nepal. I want to have my western life with the benefits of being aware and knowing truth. Pretty sure this is also possible if you have the right tools.
Exactly! Its a concept I want to elaborate on. I feel like there are so many people that want both. The spiritual, natural, artful AND the wealthy, technological, practical. Great to hear it caught your attention
Interesting we all have different perspectives on meditation. To me the biggest benefit is the feeling of invincibility due to the mental strength it gave me. I felt like it was very difficult to hurt my feelings and I could withstand things I couldnt previously
You’re right. The capacity to let it all glide of like water. I recognise that as well.
By the way your comment inspired me to make a video about hybrid life, you can check it out
looked up the slugs, definitely worth it. lekker.
They look so in love, don’t they? Slimy love
My testament to your persistence. What makes you keep on shooting videos?
many things :) I thinks it's selfish not to spread knowledge that helped you. I think it's a good long term investment. I love doing it. And I wanted to get back in the habit because I plan on creating a lot more videos soon because I changed my job and will have more time. What makes you keep watching them?
I am going to stay 6 weeks in tsukuba and absolve my internship in visceral surgery as part of my final year of studying medicine. I would really love to gather some informations and experiences, since I can’t find alot about tsukuba. Is there a way to address you? I have so many questions 😅
Sometimes I’m on x.com/siebrendevos?s=21&t=pZa1L9kdOEXQsGhMlMJBAA or instagram.com/siebrendevos/ pick the one you like ;)
Thanks man.
Great man, Do you still meditate every day? For me a retreat at least once a year and my daily meditation is key for me.
Yes, I try to. I just started again a few weeks ago. It's easy to get caught up in living life and having a full time job, convincing yourself that "I just need to relax a bit" and end up watching youtube shorts for 2 hours instead of meditating. (I know I'm guilty) But meditation really builds up momentum, it's an upwards spiral, when you meditate you get more in touch with your "higher self" and because of that it's easier to keep going. I did fall into the trap of thinking "Man, i'm feeling so good lately, there's no need to meditate anymore". than I slip off and a few weeks later I find myself thinking "Man I should really start meditating again". and so the cycle continues haha. What (if anything) makes daily meditation difficult for you?
DOPAMINE DETOX IS BULLSHIT. STOP BELIEVING THIS CRAP PLEASE
I hear a lot of people say Vipassana helped them tremendously, but I also heard stories of Vipassana practitioners become emotionless, unfeeling, or they killed themselves after one of these retreats, can you add anything to that?
It's good that you're mentioning both the positive and the negative sides. And you could be right about the negative part. Although during the 10 days there is proper guidance and you can talk with the teacher if you experience any distress. I've got to be honest and say that sometimes I've also wondered whether I was becoming emotionless when practicing at home, but I think this is due to general life circumstances not the meditation. The last few weeks I've noticed the exact opposite, I'm starting to become more in touch with my emotions again, since picking up meditation as a daily practice again. Have you personally experienced any negative side effects from meditation?
@@siebrendevos I am just getting in to meditation and haven't done anything this intense before. I just wanted to know both sides of the story before continuing.
These 10 day meditation retreat stories are more fantastical rather than encouraging. You can get the benefits of vipassana at home with 20-60min per day. The actual important part is to do it daily, not for crazy long.
I agree. It's in the process. Just sit down. That is already a victory. Just sit down.
Thanks for such honesty
You're welcome, thanks for leaving a comment
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for Thanking.
I ❤ Vipassana. What an amazing experience. I hope I get to it again in 2024🍀🍀🍀
I hope so too for you! :)
Wow. Just wow. So inspiring!
I'm considering doing a 10 day vipassana retreat here in Bali where I live to help me with the quite bad anxiety that I suffer from, but I'm a little nervous I've heard that for some people it's a bit too much and it can send them into anxiety/panic attacks and they need to stop and leave the retreat.
You are not alone. There is staff that helps you, and a teacher you can ask questions to if you find that necessary. I felt like i was in gold hands ;)
@@siebrendevos Yes I'm definitely very interested in doing it, I've read several accounts of people who were suffering debilitating anxiety and panic disorders which they totally recovered from by doing the the 10 day vipassana. Here in Bali there are countless options for meditation courses and retreats, I have no experience with any meditation practice so I'm thinking I might do a three day retreat or course first to see how it makes me feel, then if I find that helpful to me do the 10 day vipassana at a later date.
Another great book like this topic is called “the beauty of everyday things” by Soetsu
Yes good tip! I’ve read that one as well. About craftmanship and putting some soul back into our products. We need that..
the moment you mentioned the word "intrusive" in this video I had a clue you might of read that book too! 👍@@siebrendevos
What is the meditation exactly, when you say you returned to the meditation?
Which part of the video do you refer to? in general it is watching the breath and body scanning.
2024 I plan on doing this
Good luck, let us know how it was ;)
My neck always pains while doing Vipassana but I think and know it's all impermanent I think it and pain is gone😅
Great to hear that that helps for you :) What I did during the 10 days was just to observe it. Really look at it. and eventually I got a different relationship with the sensation of pain. Don't look away ;)
It’s been at least 15 years since I’ve done a silent retreat and immediately you inspired me to look into a new one. Thank you.
That’s great to hear. Glad you got inspired!
Good for you for doing this. It inspires good decisions in the rest of us.
Thank you, I hope it will have a positive butterfly effect :)
How come this video didn't go viral?
Hey, how do You practice on daily basis?
1-1 hr morning n night, I ALSO DID VIPASSANA
It can be challenging, especially with a full time job. The last few weeks I've picked it back up and I just meditate for the amount of time I have in that day, sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 1 hour. I trust in the process and it's better than nothing. What is for you the biggest challenge when practicing daily?
Great ! i actually did all these, and also make my PC grayscale as well. But change it back to color when i need it. I also use KZread audio addon on firefox so I only listen to it's audio.
That’s next level! But pretty smart 😎
How you poop though?
with an ancient mystical practice called the "silent sadhu". It has been passed on for generations ;)
