    Stop foreigners buying existing properties. Rein in the massive immigration numbers! The larger the population, the more housing and services that need to be built. Which we cannot do due to red / green tape, slow land release, tradie availability and building product supply shortages.

    Disgraceful traitors need to be tried for treason. They aren't building ANY homes, they are bringing in MILLIONS of immigrants to jack up prices further! Another couple years and houses will be MILLIONS and rents will be 100k a year! THE ENTIRE WORKING POPULATION WILL BE HOMELESS!

    When you buy your first home, you are not @entering the housing market”. It becomes a market when someone starts to buy investment houses, purely as a business to get richer.

    When Kevin Rudd come to power in 207, he threw everything including the kitchen sink at the housing market. This was to aid housing affordability at the time. Tanya Plibersek who was the housing minister at the time, later admitted that it was to 'underpin' house prices. This new Labor government is doing the same thing.

    Thanks for the refund of cents back. Theft tax that shouldn’t exist in the first place. Want to know why Dubai and Singapore with much smaller workforces create more wealth, liquidity housing and money to spend with 5-15% income taxes? They tax wealth and resources. Instead we have a Gina and a twiggy and ATO with billions of $$$ just to stomp down the throat of a working man. Just anything to keep the overlords happy and their boots licked and shined aye.

    Labor won't restrict negative gearing and CGT because Bill Shorten tried it and they lost that election. The memory of losing the unloseable election is ingrained in their psyche. I'd vote green if you want to see a change because they haven't experienced this failure yet and won't be scared to try big things.

    Suggesting that the government should not make big moves because then they won't be reelected is crazy. If they only get elected to get reelected, then they're not doing anything and they shouldn't be in the job. And if you know voters are under the sway of fear mongering propagandists, then start working harder on your messaging, or pass stricter laws on misinformation and propaganda - remove the "news" label for infotainment shows like Fox and Sky News, or mandate a disclaimer banner that states "this is an opinion show, funded by The Murdoch Press, who has investment ties to X, Y, and Z." People are struggling, it is only getting worse, and it is not enough to simply say "yeah, but voters will think changes will hurt them, so". The time for maintaining the status quo is gone.

    Why did prices still increase during covid people?

  • @Inflammasomes
    @InflammasomesСағат бұрын

    Interest rates fell, very few owners were putting their homes on the market due to the fearful conditions. The very few properties that were on the market were bid up by those with massively increased borrowing capacities. The reality is that rents actually fell during covid. Making housing cheaper for most that rented. Purchasing prices would have fallen eventually when interest rates increased and lockdowns ended, but the ramp up in immigration has prevented that from happening, due to the excessive demand it has driven.

    I can’t wait to see health studies that identify correlations between slum towers and cancer, illness depression and aggravated illness during pandemics be referred to in 20 years time when these slum towers go up. Why do 70 year olds need a pension and keep the million$ house? While young people be relegated to buying a slum tower as their only choice? Is Australia fine with not having children born here? Have open space? All to ensure the older white class has free pension and million$ 4 bed homes to sit in??

    Ridiculous response. Yes, supply is welcome but this will take time and years. Why not implement something that can be done almost immediately i.e. negative-gearing and taxing people with +2 investment properties? Immigration drop is welcome, but why only take a single prong approach when there are multiple levers to work on now? If you hold shares, you take the loss if the share price drops. That's what an investment is - it has risks. If your investment property price drops - why do taxpayers end up footing bill?

    More than half of Aussies own homes. Upsetting the home owners and telling them they will be taxed more means less votes. It is possible but which politician would want to do that? Also consider that politicians have multiple investment properties. The only solution for available is to hope they build more houses... for rich foreigners to buy.

    Immigration last year was 550,000 people and it's not slowing. So the 1.2 million new homes target over 5 years won't even house half of the new immigrants over that time period. In 5 years time the supply will be even worse.

    I dunno about Aus but here in the U.S. we just print out monopoly money at our leisure & still somehow manage not to spend it on some of the most meaningful things. But hey if the pundits fixed the problems they wouldn't be able to wave the issues in front of our faces to distract & divide us while pretending to fix them to bolster their support. I don't mean this guy in particular but pundits in general.

    The overt lying and gaslighting on display here is disgusting. He says in his answer that having more people at auctions will only raise the price then days "the only way to decrease house prices is to build more homes". You can reduce the amount of people by cutting immigration. You can reduce the amount of investors by cutting negative gearing. You can cut the prices by increasing the capital requirements for banks in the fractional reserve system. This guy and Labor in general are liars on the same level as the liberals, vote for smaller parties next election and get rid of the uni party.

    And that just starting at a first home . Your exact words , correct. The concept of owning a home is to live in it for the rest of your days , it is not an investment. It's a simple as stopping selfish owners owning more than 1 property. Just like the 1 child policy they had in China we need a 1 home policy. The only people that loose out are the selfish. If the government can force people to evacuate a property due to a new freeway they also have the same power to force all investment properties to sell. Your housing problem fixed . Banks still get paid , government still gets paid the only people missing out are the greedy multiple property owners. Problem fixed !

    Brisbane and other cities like it is the New Sydney any property within 50-70km city centre going to cost $800,000 plus. 1.2 million homes in 5 years no where near enough. Population would have increased way more than that by then. None will be affordable most be positively or negatively geared Woodridge homes will be 1.2 by then 😬
