Ian Walsh

Ian Walsh

Welcome! Ian Walsh is an award and major event winning professional surfer who enjoys scaring the sh!t out of himself in 50-70 foot surf. This also creates a unique opportunity to push himself. Which is what he is really after.

But let's get to the real reason you're here... KITCHEN CAPTAIN!

On this channel, you're going to be thoroughly entertained while learning how to cook at home. Weekly cooking episodes will be served up and there might be a sprinkle or two of high-quality surfing videos. This is not a Michelin star chef show. This is the everyman cooking show in your own kitchen. If Ian can make it, then so can you. Cooking doesn't need to be hard, but it does need to taste good. There will be mistakes, there will be laughs, and there will be some damn good recipes learned! Put your seatbelt on, hit that SUBSCRIBE button, and buckle up! Let's go!

Interesting idea regarding the bag. I guess I'd be a little concerned if you had previously had some nasty groceries in the bag, like canned goods or uncooked meat. Nothing the oils won't kill though!

Naah bro....i am good just watching this on TV. At least the ride needs to be comfortable for potential shark food.

How high was this wave, 10m?

If you are under the wave, do you open your eyes or just let things happen and trust that you always will go up to the surface eventually? I do not surf but I swim and sometimes near the beach I have to go straight diving into pretty high waves that break in front of me. Never had problems so far as long as I faced the waves upfront.

It is hard to wrap my head around the fact that Jeff Clark surfed this place all alone for years before the Hawaiians finally accepted his invite. In an interview he said he and his best friend used to sit up on the cliff and watch these monsters roll in. One day he tells his buddy today's the day we're gonna surf this place. His friend told him no way I will sit up here and watch so I can tell the Coast Guard where you were when you disappeared. Clark is an absolute legend.

I surfed there when I was young and stupid. That said I was never crazy enough to paddle out when it's maxing! Haa. My absolute limit was 15ft. The trouble at Mav's is when it's 15ft there will be a rogue 20-25ft cleanup set. You will get rolled. That's a fact. You go out at 20ft and you're going to face a rogue 30ft set. If you're pushing your own limit, this place doesn't care and you will get blown up period. Having been absolutely lit up here on 12ft waves I cannot imagine how these guys don't drown!! Absolutely fearless. I had a friend of mine from So Cal who went up to Mav's for a late Spring swell that was mostly in the 10-12ft range. I had warned him about rogue cleanup sets but I guess he forgot. An 18-20ft set rolled through and he was too far inside so he was paddling his ass off to scratch over the top however he didn't quite make it. He faced every surfers worst fear getting sucked backwards over the falls. He drowned. He had no pulse. Quick action by a few guys who saw this saved his life. They did CPR while he was on the beach until a Medivac chopper picked him up and flew him to a hospital in SF. He no longer goes there. Ha

You deserve a real sponsor mate. RedBull is not a surf brand. Its not skating or mountaineering brand either. Its a massive corporation that cares about nothing but investors and sales. Evil.
