the amount of hate that this gets is disgusting...this is a heartfelt poem about empowering yourself! what's wrong with that?? it takes courage to love yourself enough after so many years of society telling you not to. <333

HEY FEMINISTS jacking yourself off does not sound any more appealing when you say it then when men do. Men and woman are equals...equally worthless. The fact that there even exists science and pseudo science that revolves purly around human sexuality is a complete joke.

All the people here mocking her are actually not thinking about it or ignorant. Science is hella late when it comes to female biology. Most doctors don't even know how to properly treat chronic diseases related to female sexuality. You think it took so long to understand female sexuality because women are somehow so much more complex than men? No. It's because the scientific community was not interested. Science itself is not the problem, maybe the problem is using the word science to stand in place of the disproportionately male population who study it.

I have to start out by saying that this Woman truly inspires me, she is the embodiment if what i desire to become, when she preaches about the sick disgusting awful ways of putting strong women down, she speaks about how the "Science" can be used to combat these revolting actions caused by males. I hope to see her in the future becoming a world leader, who can change our species with her inspiring quotes and knowledge, I would be honored one day to meet this lovely human.

I think what she is trying to say is that it’s ridiculous that this is what people are talking about instead of actually important things in the field of science. I believe she is exploring the idea that some men still have very outdated ideas of what women want, which is why she is addressing this to male scientists. I also am a fan of Olivia gatwood and I understand why she writes what she writes. She has a lot of anger and fear towards men because of how and where she was brought up and her experiences. Watching her other slam poetry videos especially ones where she is also talking about her book make you understand why she is expressing herself like this. (Also in slam poetry people get really emotional and fired up, which is why a lot of the poets breathe heavy like that)

If there were a God I would thank her the toothy insides of ripe pomegranates, for the easy thumbing of their soft peels Thank her for seventy-three degree weather For leaning oaks, glass bottom boats, and always acknowledging what is beneath us For the neighbors who kept their tire swings long after their kids had grown up and moved out or the loyal lemonade stand customers For the man who gave up his seat to a pregnant woman on the five o’clock 3 train Or the brief moment of connectedness between two strangers reading the same book. I would thank her for that book I would thank her for the bicycle shops that fix tires without charge and Costco samples on Saturdays In fact, I would thank her for all of the free things ever Except price quotes I might not thank her for those But I would thank her for the good kinds of taxes and the schools that they build For wide bike lanes and the cars who stay out of them, for the persistent love of New York City and the fact that even when I want to hate it I end up dancing to a singing saxophone in the middle of Grand Central Station I would thank her for that saxophone I would thank her for the parents who let their kids learn an instrument, for the kids who made their parents let them, I would thank her for the kids who said fuck it and taught themselves For the teachers, philosophers, waitresses, and scientists For the good fathers and the person who invented eyeglasses I would thank her for every coincidence and someone might say in God’s eyes there is no coincidence but the God I am imagining still doesn’t know what to make of the fact that people run into their friends just moments after thinking of one another, my God is just as confused as we are My God thinks the saying “everything happens for a reason” is bullshit She also thinks the act of claiming one’s god as their own is serious bullshit I just want to thank something for the people who organize archives and the museum guides who get way too excited, for the tourists who ask questions I want to thank something for the answer yes I tell my grandmother I do not believe in God but that I am a good person I wonder why I feel these two phrases must be said together If there were a god, I would hope she loves the people who doubt her existence that way she would continue to give us these moments, these moments that make us say if there were a god I would thank her for this

you're all missing the point. The reasons you screams the HEY SCIENCE bit, is because, this article said that science have just discovered female orgasm. As if it were between "". It's meant to be directed to that "science" that according to the article has just discovered female orgasm. Which is of course, a lie. You're all hating on her for saying that "science" that article is reffering to is fucking stupid, but don't say nothing about the article itself that claims lies in the name of science. Olivia is not shitting on science with this poem, is shitting on the article itself that it's sexist, homophobic and uses the word science just to push their agenda; and uses it to talk about how much female sexuality has been ignored over history and still to this day. Hence the lines 'I need a health teacher that includes the clitoris in his lesson plan. 'I need a boyfriend who doesn't consider masturbation a performance for him' 'Next time you conduct a study that results in an alarmingly low number of women who had orgasm, why don't you conduct a study on why men think their dicks are fairy godfathers instead of assuming the problem lies with women'

Guess what.... no one fcking cares. There's people starving in the world and your first problem is that we don't use the word science properly??? TBH I don't know what you and her talking about..... what about get a fcking life and worrying about whats important. Before you call me something dumb i'm not a feminist and i'm not sexist, I believe in equality with everyone not just women. And btw you learn alot about the female anatomy in school and their hormones sooooo stfu

@@dillon2926 I care. Olivia's words articulate both frustrations and experiences I've shared. They help me feel less ashamed of female sexuality. I felt confronted by the comment section and its obvious contempt for this poem, but when I saw the comment you responded to I felt comforted again. Your derisive response compelled me to offer this comment. I care, as I'm sure many other girls among the 50,000 viewers of this video do. If you don't, I suggest you direct your attention towards content you do care about so as to minimise the negativity in your life. But I'd also encourage you to re-examine your contempt for issues that matter to teen girls, and your misguided view that what matters to them is not "what's important". With poems like Olivia's, and discussions like these surrounding these subjects I hope girls like me and those in generations after mine feel less shame, feel that they matter, feel pride in their femininity and their ability to claim what that means for themselves without others dictating what it is. :)

Everyone who doesn’t understand, she means that scientists are only just now figuring out that girls as well orgasm, she isn’t blaming the CONCEPT of science. They’re just finally realizing that, when they’ve done so much other things before “discovering” the female orgasm.
