    I don't think any of you understand this poem, and that it is a POEM, and the way that she is using the word "science". This poem is based off an article stating that scientists had just recently discovered the female orgasm, when it has obviously existed and was discovered long before. Olivia is very intelligent, an amazing writer and public speaker, and actually a human being which you people seem to be forgetting with these comments.

    +B0badenvero8 actually, since science is pretty much (or should be) the study of everything. Science is involve 100% with female sexuality (like it should study it, because that's science job. Figure thing out) And she is right about being mad at science as 1. the way it has misread or completely ignore women, and 2. how it has done it very best to erased women from scientific achievements. I mean you had no idea, (I had no idea cause their is so many cases), how many times a women had been misdiagnosed through out history to today. How many reports scientists forget to add gender (and a bunch of other factors) to their experiment as a factor. 2. well, if you know a little about history, you must know about how female scientists were not allow to take credit for their discoveries.

  • @TheKyaaa

    @TheKyaaa

    8 жыл бұрын

    +B0badenvero8 Well, the true is that women are ignore in the field. Like, for example, medicine research. While trying to investigate the 'tell signs' that might precede an heart attack it was generalized (was) that all the population would had similar symptoms (lest ignore age to avoid making this more complicated). It took a while to make a distinction between heart attack signs for men and women. A more clear example are periods. We are thought about them (depends on where you when to school how well), and they had the reputation of being painful, but it is still relatively recently that it had been discussion of irregular periods as an actual medical problem or the abnormal pain some women experience. I said this because constantly women's symptoms that could be period's symptoms are constantly overlook, instead of thoroughly investigate. (men are misdiagnosed too, but usually for different reasons) I think is funny that you choose 'Earth is flat' as your example because people believe that, and science vouch for that to be true and people die. Of course it was wrong; the Earth is not flat or round, science is always changing and far more complicated that that. Science as a subject is theoretically objective and pure... in a way, but people aren't. People would paid, lie and do all research they need to support what ever they want to say. Science was a male dominated field, still is, because only male were allow to study. Male scientists thought as guys cause they were guys, and they answer their questions first. And wasn't last year when a Nobel Prize winner, Hunt, call his coworkers on science -all female scientist distractions... Aslo, no need to be rude. And sorry this took so long :)

  • @TheKyaaa

    @TheKyaaa

    8 жыл бұрын

    +B0badenvero8 As you said, the field involves millions of different case and most of them, if not all, are bias in a way or another (no one can truly be unbiased). You also said that we should live in the present, but to truly understand something we cannot forget the past or we'll become the fastest median for those mistakes to be repeated. (I agreed there is obviously progress and there is more to come, but we most always push for more) But in the past there was a strong bias, if not a ban, against women in the fields of science -that type of bias doesn't just disappears, it takes centuries (yes, that long because as you said is a very big field). (also, Hunt is a full grown man who should be smart enough to check or filter is speech in public -at least) I'm not sure what you mean with pregnancy, I mean sure is important but I don't think I get that point.

    Why all this hate? It's poetry. It's not about science, it's about a specific instance of ignorance in science that made her angry. Personifying science into someone she can yell at makes the poem more interesting. She's not trying to critically examine the discipline, she's artistically sharing her feelings.

I hope to see her in the future becoming a world leader, who can change our species with her inspiring quotes and knowledge, I would be honored one day to meet this lovely human.

    Did you hate Maths, Physics or Chemistry at school? Languages and Arts, while important, are man-made constructs. They do not exist in a vacuum. Scientific principles, on the other hand are universal. No matter what language or representation you use, the idea behind them won't change. The social sciences like Psychology do use some scientific methodology but they are soft sciences at best. Some purists don't even consider them to be sciences like the people who don't consider motor sports to be sports. Your interpretation all subjective; as opposed to core/hard Sciences. Pure science objectively studies, investigates and deciphers natural pehomenons which happen at a scale far greater than the whole of humanity. Science is a quest about understanding, manipulating and replicating the mechanisms of nature. It goes beyond the human self. Science is beautiful.

    Olivia Gatwood is such a goddess. This poem is so incredible, thanks for standing up for women, for pointing out sexism in the field of science, and for wearing really cool headbands always. The amount of sexist men commenting here shows how threatened they are by equality. KEEP WORKIN IT GIRL.

Obviously science can't speak but men scientist who are worrying about a girl cumming instead of curing cancer can speak. Yes science has come far but there's so much farther we can go that they do not have to "discover" a girl orgasm they exist they always have just because someone of you can't find it doesn't mean we can't. This poem was really good keep going girl! You are both very good at writing don't listen to anyone being rude you guys are doing great things ❤️

    I think what she is trying to say is that it’s ridiculous that this is what people are talking about instead of actually important things in the field of science. I believe she is exploring the idea that some men still have very outdated ideas of what women want, which is why she is addressing this to male scientists. I also am a fan of Olivia gatwood and I understand why she writes what she writes. She has a lot of anger and fear towards men because of how and where she was brought up and her experiences. Watching her other slam poetry videos especially ones where she is also talking about her book make you understand why she is expressing herself like this. (Also in slam poetry people get really emotional and fired up, which is why a lot of the poets breathe heavy like that)
