Hi, Jay. Love your videos and technique. Where do you buy the large bags of marabou?
The marabou Im using is old stock I have had from a feather processor long since gone. Its hard to find places that will sell feathers by the lb. You can check out Schuman or Moonlight - both are good for bulk strung marabou tips.
@@JayIsOutdoorsy Will do. Thank you, Jay.
Jay nice jigs great job like always.
I’m sorry, did Jay pass away?
Hahahahah. Just wanted to fix some copyright issues with an oldie but goodie 🙃
@@JayIsOutdoorsy oh good. 😊 I just saw a picture and then this year dated I was like whoa!
Don't ever scare me like that......not even joking. Jay....thanks for the video. Solid colored shirt next time. I tried zooming in to watch you tie the snell and could quot make it out. By the way Jay....you need any bucktails? Taxidermy called me yesterday and said he is cleaning out his freezers to wash them and had 106 tails. I really didn't need any but I took them. If for so e chance you need some I will ship to you on dry ice over night. I sit hated for him to throw them away. Thanks for the video. As usual....fantastic.
I like this pattern.
Really appreciate you taking the time to make and share these videos! Would love to see some videos of you fishing these beautiful baits.
What do you use to coat the jig with to protect the airbrushing?thanks
I use diamond finish www.kbs-coatings.com/
Beautiful jig!
You’ve mentioned your jig “boxes” from time to time which you use to store and transport your stock to your customers. I’m curious what you use for boxes?
The trading card boxes we see in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/eImEmsZwf8vRqdI.htmlsi=XJSVhDm5JmNFiAUO
Try putting some wax or rubing the arms with your nose.
Another great video Jay!!!
Excellent tie!
Hi, Jay. Today I recommended to one of my customers that he reach out to you. He is looking to buy some jigs tied on barumba heads. I tie commercially but do not carry barumba heads. I hope you can help him out.
Thanks. Im the only one you will find with the Barumba heads 😁
You're welcome.
Great video. Can you explain your pricing? Like, selling to a bait shop vs a bigger store. How does the whole process work? You sell singles that are carded, and in multipacks?
Nice
Jay great video as always, appreciate the additional comments that relate to years gone by. As such I was searching through my collection of vintage books and catalogs and came upon a small item. This being PRACTICAL FLIES and their construction. BY Lacey Gee and Erwin D. Sias. To make this short they gave a quick view of tying flie and first subject was vises, Thompson was the first second was the universal rotary: so just a quick comment feeling privileged to have these , THANK YOU for your connection
Hi Jay, do you tie double hook streamers like your dad did? They were wrapped with metalic thread.
The videos are about 8 years old kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIKuq7Kpf83Kd5M.htmlsi=OC8m227VoyAL4XW_ kzread.info/dash/bejne/pX57rKZupdWYgJc.htmlsi=SDkcIX4QZMPMaqWU
@@JayIsOutdoorsy thank you. I hated tying those for him. They took me forever to do it right.
Thank you! The Jig and Plunker was invented in Central Kentucky for the White Bass Jumps. After moving several times, I have lost my equipment and therefore all the skills. Jump season is in 6 weeks or so; I want to be ready this year.
Jay thanks for the video great information like always and very interesting about this thread I will look at there web site .
Thank you very much for this video. I thought I was the only one who sometimes used nylon sewing thread for tying certain applications. Glad to know it’s not just me.
Orange works for me.
nice looking jig; like the red tag on the rear.
Thank you for sharing.
Two thumbs up. Nice ties and great stories. Thanks for sharing, Jay.
Can you reheat and use the dye later?
The amount used for the pot will only do a certain amount of tails. On the Rit website, one liquid bottle dyes about 2lbs of dry fabric.
@@JayIsOutdoorsy thanks
Always enjoy watching you tie and also the stories of your trips fishing.
Orange
Rec'd my vise today and a impressive piece of engineering.Very simple straight to the job,-- functions are tight and in tolerance going to get this locked and ready go--
Hello Jay, I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my newest vice and also pursuing the LIRS 3 PEAK to enhance my tying spectrum. I have approx 3-4 tiers that provide quite a bit of intel and inspiration that I watch and absorb the "babbling" but it's knowledge that is valuable please keep "babbling" THANK YOU!!
Maybe should be in today's mail. I'll check the receipt for tracking number. Says in MO ready for pickup
Those are really nice jigs. Thanks for sharing. Vote red. :)
Jay....thanks for sharing. As always....another fantastic pattern. Love the natural colors. Really nice. Take care, God bless and thanks for another great session.
I agree Orange.. Red was alright but orange complimented between the head and body of the jig.
I prefer the orange thread.
I think they both look great 👍
I noticed you don’t coat the thread when finished, what’s the reason for that.
I use a lacquer based head cement on all jigs. On this video, I was tying a few dozen so I place the finished jig on my rack and completed the head cement for all at the end (off camera).
Makes sense. 👍🏻
Jay I went into your site proceeded to checkout but not sure on shipping and payment methods could you offer details STEVE SW MISSOURI OZARKS
I ship everything usps priority mail. It might be a little difficult with the website as I couldn't put the true weights for items as the website automatically calculates shipping. Generally a dozen jigs should have shipping similar to a small priority mail box ($10.80). If you find it to be way off message me
Yea the PEAK jaw has jaw options and I got both sets, for the same purpose as you did. Worked out good but the jaw pressure for me was just a little hard to manage. So I stayed with it but had gotten spoiled on my very first vise,DYNA-KING KINGFISHER, the grooves in the jaw were very beneficial for hook securing. Unfortunately I was wanting a true rotary for my tying options and the KINGFISHER wasn't capable. So I got a Mongoose, and so far it's sufficient but still hope to find a UNIVERSAL 2 someday, your videos are very helpful when I find one I'll know how to "kick the tires" no pun intended ,THANK YOU for these types of videos as well as your others. STEVE SW MISSOURI OZARKS
I have a freshly refurbished universal 2 for sale on my web site
I thought the same thing when you said it resembles a fly. It’s a Griffith gnat pattern. I also use “fly patterns” for making jigs. Work great
What vise are youusing
It's an old Universal 2. You can find them occasionally on the ebay. I just listed one freshly refurbished on my website (link listed below)
I've seen video on the LIRS and those hooks are secure and not going anywhere. Congrats on your cool new toy. I've never seen that size, just the huge ones.
I'm looking forward to seeing your thread and Vise videos.
I very much like your videos, your work and talent, straight up and no talking 😎
Well done
As always Jay....outstanding jig and outstanding video. The only negetive things I can say about you or your channel is we dont get enough video time! I always look forward to your videos and the knowledge you share! Y the way....my buck tails are ahead of schedule. Checked them this morning and they are ready to be used. Colors turned out fantastic. When it was all said and done I ended up with 87. Today is cleanup day where I sift and clean my salt and borax. I took 11 tails and experiemnted using koolaid and two of the colors are absolutley crazy cool.
Another great tie Jay
Nice tie, Jay! And a great use of the back of the tail hairs. Hate wasting that stuff. Question or maybe suggestion? Looking fwd to your "thread vid" when your order arrives. Maybe a brief compare / contrast of the various sizing systems (denier, x/0, A, B etc), as well as flat vs round and waxed vs unwanted. Just a thought, maybe more than you bargained for. Always appreciate your sharing.
Deff can compare / contrast other thread types. I try not to offend other tiers so don't give my full opinion on flat waxed threads not being good for jig tying. If we dip our toes in that video, I'll be gentle...
@@JayIsOutdoorsy I need to hear that as I have only used flat waxed but only bc that's what others do......
Robs....you read my mind! I have always wondered why Jay hardly ever uses flat waxed threads. I tie mostly crappie jigs, bass jigs in hair and silicone, custom short arm spinner baits for nighttime smallmouth fishing and walleye and sauger jigs. I have found that the flat waxed threads hold the material extremely well and hold up to rocks and teeth. The sizes I use are 210, 140, and 70. I do use 16/0 and 18/0 on dry fly's, nymphs and caddis style fly's. I was always curious why Jay hardly ever uses the flat wax type threads. I do like the fact that his threads have colors I can't find like the one in this video. So Jay....in the future can you explain why you use the threads in your videos and why you shy away from the flat waxed threads. Maybe I need to start using similar threads like you utilize.
@alexrawleigh3167 the short answer is tradition, as unwaxed nylon thread was the new high tech thread of the 50s. I will put down some thoughts and talk specifics in a future video.
you have a video of how you tie, because im interested. I've started watching your videos for the past 2 to 3 months now and I'm intrigued by your techniques and your drive.
I just recently re-posted my 1st video. In the beginning, they were instructional format. I will occasionally still do the 'how to' type video but also enjoy the informal format.
Bryon.....been subscribed to Jay's channel for a couple of years now and I don't think you will find a nice gentleman who is always willing to help you. No question is ever to big or small....Jay will help you. I could never repay Jay for everything he has taught me. One of the best if not the best tier on YT. You will learn a lot from this channel.
@JayIsOutdoorsy since I've watched the first video of your channel, I now watch all your videos 2,3,and more times. That's how I'm interested and impressed with your ability, I'm new in this jig tying and I'm trying to learn from you. My thanks to you.
I love the rack you use to place your jigs on after tying. Could you tell me where you bought it?
This ia an old countertop display rack (mid 80s) that would normally have earings on a 2x2 card lined up on each level. I would love to find another myself - I do know where there is one at a local antique / flea mkt place but the person is displaying jewelry & I get get her to sell the rack.
Enjoy your videos very much. Very professionally done and I learn a lot from your explanations. Thanks
Can you use the same for squirrel tails
Yes. Would work good with squarrel
Jay....like an expensive bottle of wine...we get "smoother" and we get older! About the only thing I notice is how far technology has come when it comes to cameras. Great job bringing us back in time.
