    What is WOT on that? I'm troubleshooting an engine issue on a 14 w/ a 30 so I'm guessing whatever your top speed on a 16 w/ a 40 would be similar.

    You said it's weight sensitive but shouldn't it be more stable than a v-hull? Generally flat bottoms are more stable..

    Installing trim tabs in a Carolina Skiff J series requires drilling a hole much larger than the one needed, then filling the hole with fiberglass putty, waiting for it to cure, then drill new holes the size of your screws to install the trim tabs. The reason is because with just regular holes in the transom area below the water line, water will eventually get inside the flotation foam through the holes, but by drilling bigger holes and sealing it with epoxy first, you are creating a water tight place where water can't penetrate, as long as the screws are not longer than the epoxy plug.

  • @cubaniton74
    @cubaniton744 жыл бұрын

    Avoid drilling holes in the floor of your Carolina Skiff, if using 3M 5200, just use a little bit more, that way you will not have to use screws, because screws will eventually allow water to penetrate into the flotation foam in the floor and the water will be trapped in there permanently, causing your boat to weight considerably more.

    Thank you for the DIY video. I did remove some material off my rear deck, but used hand tool only, a rounded file, and kept testing time after time, so avoid removing too much material, it ended up looking nice, thanks to your inspirational video. God bless you.

    That's how Carolina Skiff is building their skiffs now, with a channel or tunnel to run the wiring for the console. I actually prefer the old way, because in the new system I can't see how well sealed that channel or tunnel is, and if water gets in there, it could penetrate into the flotation foam and be trapped in it.

    Hey AG, nice boat. Adjust the smart tabs move it to 1 and go up till you find the spot, and it will correct the spray at transom. I have mine on one, but I have trolling motor and battery up front. So it just depends on how your boat is loaded with what you have to set it to. I have a Jv 17 cc with the Merc 40 HP. Mine is wet too. I'm up in Crystal River so shallow water here. Great little boats. Hope you enjoy it.

    I've got the same J16 but tiller steer with a 40 mercury 2 stroke. The lil boat is tough yes wet riding but smart tabs and a learning your trim will stop most of the splash. On the take off trim the motor up a lil and as the bow rises start trimming it down.
