    Have you ever lost a carrot mid pull?

  • @lifeasweknowit5280

    Yes, several years ago we bought some and they were a little too small. we didn’t realize it until we started pulling back. I can’t remember if both pulled out or just one. At any rate we had trouble. It’s very important to have the right size of carrots.

    I might have asked this already. Why don't they manufacture a unit that has a sensor on the ground that can be read from standing up? You bend down every 6 feet in every video. Seems insane.

  • @reidcollins4371
    @reidcollins43712 күн бұрын

    Push 9 would mean to not spin the drill and keep the head pointed to the 9 o'clock position, essentially he's calling for a steer to the left! The head is like an angled paddle so when you push it into the dirt without spinning, you can steer the drill.

    Maybe they're using fiber optic color coding on the conduits? Blue = 1, Orange = 2, Green = 3, etc. so they can number the conduits in their plant blue prints for buildout, maintenance and repair. You can just google "fiber optic color coding", and you will find chart tables that match color with number when they are identifying which individual fiber goes to what number in the fiber optic cable.

    Trolley rail in the street is a common occurrence here in Chicago. Makes a heluva racket when the concrete saw hits it. Irritates the operator too. Removal from the running line is a PITA, and $$$.

    I am not very familiar with pipe pushers, so thanks for this tiny bit of knowledge. That shackle appears to be the type that has only one side threaded. IMHO, having both eyelets threaded might give you more control when working at depths requiring the use of an extension pole. Getting the work into position, unscrewing the bolt just to have it pop out of the hole must be frustrating. Yes, it will be a bit slower to screw in, but it appears that you would only need to position it once, thus lessening the chance of having to start over. And good on ya for retrieving that bottle……too many folks would have simply left it there. 🫡

    Many years ago in the late 70s, I was a service tec for a small cable company near Washington DC. The state was getting ready to widen a street and we had to move a cable which would be under the new road. The cable had been installed back in the mid 60s when the road was little more than a dirt path. The chief tech and the system manager (I said this was a small company) took the Dich Witch out to the site. The power company had marked the power lines, so our guys moved over 2 feet and sunk the blade into the ground. 6 inches down, they struck a 24,000 volt primary. The power company had marked an old abandoned line rather than the active cable. The power welded the Dich Witch chain to the arm, the guys jumped off, and half the town was put into the dark for about 6 hours. Neither of them was injured, but The Dich Witch never ran again.

    Thank you, sir, for bringing us this very interesting and informative video presentation which is very much appreciated. It was certainly interesting to see the railroad track, which as another commentator pointed out, could have been a trolley track. It shows what can be buried, unrecorded , over a period of time. This, I have seen in a city that was laying new trolley tracks can cause serious delay and additional expense due to coming across fairly large items that was never recorded. One one occasion they came across a mass grave dating back over four hundred years where many had died due to the bubonic plague. This, of course, had all to be recorded and the bones were reburied in a location nearby. At least you didn't come across anything like this on this occasion! It is certainly, fascinating work you do and thank you for allowing us to get some insight into the difficulties and frustrations that you go through during the course of your work. Your work is much appreciated by us all.

    problem is these locator guys only find utilities that are mapped and recorded. If you have a hand dug drain or sprinkler line, all bets are off. Same goes for old rail / trolly track installed before records were kept.

    A friend worked for Tacoma City Water. They were assigned to make the final hookup of a new housing development to the city main. Locators came out and found the main, they dug it up and hot tapped it. After completing the hookup and turning it on, a guy comes up and asks what they were doing. My friend said hooking up the water main. Guy said Thats not your pipe, its mine. Yours is about 4 feet deeper. Turns out that they had hooked the new homes water supply into a high pressure sewer line. Four months of chlorinating and running water thru the neighborhood, the health dept finally cleared the water as safe to drink. Each home had to be tested. My friend thought it was hilarious.

    Since the advent of fiber, they usually lay several conduits at the same time. Using deferent color conduits allows easy determination of which conduit you are working on. When locating the berried lines later, they still mark the ground/street/sidewalk with orange paint.

    Railroad track? Middle of the city so it is probably more likely a trolley track. Same structure but lighter. Although putting those tracks over the top of a gas line would guarantee that no one accidentally digs into the gas line. Expensive insurance.
