    I found your video while researching area lighting options for my Revel. I like the BD S1 option. During the video, I noticed your storage box on the roof, at the rear next to the air conditioning unit. What box is that and what are the dimensions? Did you mount the box directly to the crossbars by drilling and using t-nuts?

    Good video, how long does it take to charge all batteries by driving now? I’ve read that the extra battery puts more stress on the stock Winnebago secondary alternator which is I think 170A output?

  • @neillharrison9294
    @neillharrison92942 ай бұрын

    Apologies, I missed this comment. I haven’t timed it but I’d expect it to take 50% longer. The alternator would be on for longer but I’d imagine this is no more stress than if I used the van more frequently and ultimately if it broke I’d upgrade it.

    How is it running a year later and how many hours can you run your AC?

  • @neillharrison9294
    @neillharrison9294 Жыл бұрын

    It’s running perfectly, never had any issues with it. How many hours isn’t easily answerable since it’s entirely dependent on the exterior temp, direct sun etc. I live in the PNW so AC isn’t often needed although last weekend I ran it for about 3 hours in 80f+ direct sunlight and it used about 30% of my batteries.

    Awesome mods. Are you saying the Weboost is running off that same 12v circuit you tapped into from the 12v socket that's under the cabinet and going to your switch? If so, which Weboost power cable did you use? Assuming you had to chop the end off to wire it to the switch?

  • @neillharrison9294

    Thanks. Yes, I wired into that circuit, via the switch to power lights and weboost. If I recall correctly I cut the end off a cigarette style power cord.

    Do you mind my asking what the inside dimensions are? Think you could get away with something a little shorter? Any things you would’ve done differently? Thinking about building something like this for our van.

  • @neillharrison9294
    @neillharrison9294 Жыл бұрын

    It was built around a Bloom Alma Mini Crib mattress, you’ll find those dimensions online. I wouldn’t go any shorter or smaller tbh, prior to being a father I knew very little about babies and assumed this size would last a good while. The problem was that once she could sit up and crawl etc, she didn’t like being in such a small space. It was great until about 9 months but then she gets pretty fussy in there, if anything I’d try to make it a bit bigger or at least taller if I did it again.

Once our baby hit about 8 months and was moving around a lot she didn’t like being so contained in a small space so we often have her sleep with us in the bed. I am planning on doing this exact same thing as you have done here, great video. Can you tell me where from and what you ordered for the remote battery switch you added to your panel above the rear seat for the 3rd battery? I may end up putting the 3rd battery in front of the inverter instead of that cubby which would eliminate drilling holes. I measured and it will just fit, but it will of course require me to move a couple of things around that go to the inverter (such as the white "Molex" branded things with orange wires to and from the inverter, not sure what those are and if it is ok to move them). Also wondered about heat as the battery would sit up against the inverter. I actually ordered the cables from Spartan Power (thanks for that) that you described to the specs you outlined. 🙂

    just curious, adding a new Li+ battery to two that have had significant use, wouldn’t the resistance difference result in a drawdown on the system’s current, and shorten the lifespan of the batts?

  • @neillharrison9294

    That’s a great question! Yes, in general you want batteries of a similar age as you describe. Definitely something to think about those when adding to an existing system.

    Neil, how did you know where and how much to trim in the interior control panel wall? How much depth is in that wall for the switch control panel and did you run cable down exterior wall into back of seat and then back up to the switch panel? Looks great!

  • @neillharrison9294
    @neillharrison92942 жыл бұрын

    I took out the bed controls and one place to peak/reach behind those to find a clear spot for my new switch panel. You can also easily measure depth that way and ensure your saw has sufficient clearance. The cables run horizontally, behind the wood and then behind the cabinet liner. Behind that liner is where I get power and also accesses the roof port.

    Thanks Rob. The 2021 & onward Revels have a roof access port on the roof. It’s just a plastic box that you can drill through to pass wiring into the van. You take out the liner in the cabinet above the bench seat and then you can reach up into the inside of the access port. I was then able to run the wires behind the wall behind bench seat to the switch. Does that help, unsure if that’s what you were asking?

    It is a little fiddly but very doable, someone with small hands may be helpful. I would recommend first establishing where you can reach before drilling holes and getting a small wrench.
