    Africanized bees are in my area in central Louisiana and I`m having issues with old car accident injuries and arthritis so I decided not to get a hive until I get more advice. I saw a small wild hive of Africanized bees attack a guy and really hurt him fast but I warned him before he harassed them. They didn`t come after me and another guy though but we weren`t the one who aggravated them intentionally. I used to have all the equipment, suit and 4 hives years ago but never needed to wear the suit to harvest a frame of honey but I knew very little and mites and moths infested them after a few years and killed them. There are certain people bees don`t like it seems for whatever reasons. My dad couldn`t go near them.

    Have you considered trying some water soluble cloning solution in the mister? I know in other plant species which heavily use these for propagation they like to add something like Hormex B1, which has a mild rooting hormone which dissolves in the water and constantly mists back on the cutting. Some also like Extreme Gardening Azos which can also mix with water, Clonex makes a diluted liquid seed starting fertilizer which some swear by, though it contains no rooting hormone. Some also like liquid seaweed which helps as a weak rooting hormone but also a light fertilizer to feed the plant as it roots. You really have a lot of options to boost your speed/success rate with a mister. I personally would recommend the Hormex b1, it's not cheap but it's mix rate is 5ml per gallon so it lasts a bit, use that for the first few weeks until you see the white root bumps develop than change the mix to a diluted feed like very diluted mix unless you go with liquid seaweed or the clonex seedling fertilizer.

    Awesome suggestions thank you for sharing! I have considered it but I honestly never tried. I might give it a go. So far just water gives me 100% success over a period of 3-4 weeks so there is not a major need for it however, if adding hormone can speed that up to 1-2 weeks it will be worth every penny! I will place an order for Hormex B1 and give it a try. maybe ill make a video doing a round with it and a round without it. It might take me 6-8 weeks to make that video but it could be worth the while.

    Thanks for pointing me to your video. I took cuttings in the Fall and rooted them in cups in my basement over winter, put a sandwich bag over each cup and clipped it on fir humidity and had a heat mat under them and grow lights. To my surprise they all grew! This summer I am trying the air layering, hope I have success. I scraped the branch but I didn't cut the bark.

  • @twiggshomestead6497
    @twiggshomestead649717 күн бұрын

    That’s awesome! Yeah I go dormant myself in the winter and relax lol. The basement on bottom heat sounds like a great idea because they like to root when the bottom is warmer than the air above. Air layering is a good solid bet. They always seem to root. Sometimes I will bend a branch down to the ground, place a brick on to hold it down and cover with woodchips or soil. Seems to work better because of consistent moisture in the ground.

I bought 8 varieties, and now I have copies of each... Think about it.. makes total sense, in the summer, it's EASY, the heat is there. All we have to do is let the figs loving the heat so it's job ❤.. I've had good success growing figs in fine bark mix, or commonly sold as soil conditioner. I have to fertilize manually but I don't mind, I've come to grow everything in this mix and honestly it's borderline impossible to over water this kinda mix. After a season or two it breaks down into some decent compost, I dump it out on a tarp (tomatoes, green bean, and potato plants) to add some more bark mix but it's worked very well for me, and stuff is only $2.50 for 2 cubic feet here locally at Lowes.

    Dip the cut tips in wax and they will survive even better. You don't want them to dry out and the wax prevents this without harming the cutting.

  • @twiggshomestead6497
    @twiggshomestead6497Ай бұрын

    It’s a good idea for cooler temperature propagation. I’ve done this in the past but found that in the greenhouse, it gets a bit too warm for wax and it ends up melting and dripping. I’m planning to try using my own bees wax this fall/ winter when propagating indoors

  • @JohnDeWeese-lq4pf

    @@twiggshomestead6497 I use the left over wax from a Sensy Wax Melt scent and I have mine in a greenhouse too. Never had the wax melt off. I just dip the cut off tips. Nothing else, and quit doing the :"wrap the stem" a long time ago. Bees wax has a lower melting point so I think it will definitely drip under heat. Good luck.

  • @twiggshomestead6497
    @twiggshomestead6497Ай бұрын

    Let me know what kinds of you info you are looking for, I’d be happy to elaborate or clarify. You can water it right into your containers or beds. You can put this on any plant with roots and it will benefit one way or another. What this is doing is feeding the soil around the plants roots in turn increasing the biological activity at the root zone (rhizosphere) and allowing the plant to trade a wider variety of nutrients at a higher quantity. I hope this helps.

    They rot easier in overly damp soil vs water because the water is largely anaerobic. So aerobic bacteria grows in the soil but not in the water. That’s my guess. I had a Smith that took forever in water. At the vacuole stage I moved it to a medium like you did. But alas a month later I may have killed it via root rot. 😔
