I bought one today.... im very curious on how this camera does it all. I now have a M50mk2
Sweet. That's where the inverse button is. Thanks!
I did it! Thank you again! kzread.info/dash/bejne/oZlqvKOresqTYtI.html
Thank you for making this video.
Price of this lens?
Appreciate it
Hey, Brett I'm a little confused - in my R10, I already have, In AF menu 1, Eye Detection enabled. Would I need to "Disabled" it from there, and THEN do the asterisk programming? Many thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a little confused - I've ENABLED Eye Detection in AF menu 1 in my R10. What difference does it make having a specific button (* or otherwise) for it, if it's already enabled? Many thanks in advance!
Thank you for all of the tips!!!
anti-flicker is not a JPEG setting. If you shoot either indoors or outdoors with arena lighting that filckers at 75hz.
Thank you!! What if I don’t want to do the entire background.. for example the sand at the beach vs the ocean that’s also part of the background
What a mess!
After u set the star to eye autofocus how do you change the aperture?
Wait at 7:02 the screen clicked out how do I change the asterik button to tracking a face? Or the * ? I’m in custom controls and can’t find what you changed that button to…. Thanks!
Que aula, acho incrível como as fotos já vem "prontas" e mesmo assim o cara ainda a deixa muito melhor. Bom trabalho meu amigo.
Tesla! ha! Looove your videos! Thank you!!
Like your name...sounds familiar...I take it this does not translate when using proxies from c200? I was sent proxy files , go figure, sooooo may have to tell the crew I need them there raw files!
Great video!! Do you need to keep you finger held down on the star button for eye AF?
3 years later and I found this helpful. Thanks
I have followed your steps in this video, but I still can't get the camera to focus on a face. Should this do it automatically or is there a step that I'm missing? Any help would be fantastic.
Hey Brett, would love to pick your brain about this lens a bit since you've had it for about 8 months and have no doubt used it quite extensively. Mine arrives this week and I'm pretty excited to put it to work. How has it been to work with compared to the 300? Have you used it with a 1.4 or 2x converter? Did the noisy zoom ring ever quiet down? I haven't sold my EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens or teleconverters just yet...I haven't see the most promising performance results online with this lens and the RF 2x, so that has me a bit concerned. This is a big investment for adding utility but losing sharpness. I just felt like I would get a lot more use out of this lens than I do my 300 which is naturally less useful than a zoom. It would at least allow me to travel without a 70-200, 100-500, AND 300mm. I could get away with just this lens, the teleconverters a 15-35, 24-105 f/2.8, and maybe a prime of choice. Thanks for any information, dude.
Great video
I've been using the back button on my DLSR for years and now on the R, it shoots much faster. But usually, if someone wants to take a photo of me with my camera, they don't know why it doesn't focus automatically :P
I’m extremely late, but I’ve got it all setup…one area I’m a bit confused is how to get the autofocus to jump from the middle to the left side? 5:57 I already registered an autofocus point on the right side of the frame
One question what desqueeze 1.3 on cam because there is no 1.6 desqueeze on fx6
Thank you, but way way too fast through the menus
Thank you so much for this! I trying to figure this out and found your KZread video!
Would you get barndoors or the softbox?
As far as using a back button to start and controlling focus. Why use two fingers to do what can be accomplished with just one finger. Use anything that makes photography fun and easy for you. We are all different, I have worked for nearly half a century in photography field, even before all this b.b.f., auto focusing Era. I have seen things come and go. For me b.b.f. is not something I embrace. Much like auto shutter, aperture or programmed control. I like doing things myself. Customisable rear buttons have many other uses I prefer over focus control. Number one reason for bbf: Just hold the back button to track a moving subject, or release it to lock focus on a still subject. Additionally, you can avoid accidental refocusing when you recompose your shot or when something comes between you and your subject. A better solution most professional photographers use. Back button a.f. lock or on Canon back button a.f. off. It works in the same principle, only you press bbf to momentarily stop auto focus. Releasing it when you need to track focus your subject. You can also use manual focus without turning off the autofocus system; just focus manually with the lens ring. Only available on certain lenses a.k.a. as one touch focusing. Personally when I shoot sport, and wildlife, I find that I need autofocus more often than I don’t. Which means that I’d rather press an extra button on the occasions I don’t need it, than press it on the occasions I do.
Nailed it - so helpful, thank you!
This camera is absolute horseshit. All I want to do is set everything to manual, and take pictures. On my Sony Alpha that literally takes seconds. Here, I’m watching an hour long video.
I really likevd your video, is there a huge difference between the 1dx2 and the 3 for stills?
Thank you! This was driving me nuts!
You produce some great information, keep it up. I am going to bite the bullet and purchase my first fixed long lens for football. What is your suggestion, 300 or 400mm? I'm only doing highschool, not the big leagues like you but want to get the best for my dollar. I will probably go used if I can find what I am looking for. Thanks
Whyyyy are you just filming yourself talking? Why aren’t you showing some examples for each points you are talking about?
Great video Brett. Thanks for the help. The one thing I am hoping to do with the R3 that you helped with the R5 is to set the eyw detection with the * button on the back. So, if doing portraits I could use the * button to focus on the eye. I love that. Thanks again.
Awesome. Yes. I like having the option for both very quickly
You helped me solve the issue of my 1.55 Beastgrip lens, you explained the steps like a boss and was very easy to follow. Thank you sir!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the insight!
Back button focus has always been my first change, but the star button? Killer! Thanks!
Story of my life, I'm quite a bit late to this dance. But my used Mark III is scheduled to arrive Monday. I cannot WAIT. Really like your candor about things. I'm only a serious hobbyist, nowhere near a pro. But, I'm turning 60 soon, and this was my present to myself...
Incredibly helpful. I'm anticipating getting my Mark III on Tuesday, and I'm looking forward to working through it while watching your video. Thanks for this great information!
I have an r5 and BBF is pointless.
Brett....thanks for this video! I've owned the R5 for about 3 months, after switching from a Sony A7IV. And I've watched about 7000 videos on 'back-button focusing', and this one was the setup I was looking for! After trying it this weekend at a family-event, I ran into some issues with the 'AF' button where I pressed it once, but it didn't seem like my subject (people) was in focus. When I chose the 'star' button, it seemed to handle face-detection quite nicely. After looking at the photos afterward, what I was seeing through the viewfinder was confirmed: an array of pics 'not in focus'. Was it maybe because I chose to focus with the 'AF' button when it involved human subjects? The R5 'hunting' for an eye, where I should have just chose the 'star' button all the time? Again...thanks for this. I'll try it out again this week to see if I can figure out my dilemma.
Interesting. I kind of like having one button use a traditional box etc and the other do face/eye tracking. Has been the most successful for me in an array of situations.
Congrats man, that is a great lens.
I went from Canon AE-1 back in 1983, then Mamiya 645 in the 90's, then Canon 30D, 50D, 60D, 70D in the early 2000's. Then to Canon 6D to Canon R6 and I love it! Now my wife shoots wedding with the 6D, I won't let her touch my R6!! LOL.....
Hi Brett! Great review. Is there a way to desqueeze the 1.6 in Premiere where you can then punch in and rotate the clip? Thanks for any insight
I still get not the benefit of putting the autofocus button on the back. Why is this best of both worlds? The ony thing is, that you can shoot further pictures but without autofocus anymore. But why would you do that? when I am in servomode I am happy to still use continuous autofocus by taking pictures?!?. I dont get it.. For me the benefit of NOT using extra autofocus button is, to quick change with thumb different autofocus modes (servo/no servo/autofocus on/off / exe on/off). And when I track an object for long time waiting for a shot I dont have to press the shutter and back button all the time, just the shutter.
*american football
Thanks for the vid. However, I had to watch it over and over and playback speed to .5 to figure out what you were changing in the menu.
I have just bought my R3 2 days ago. I found this video very helpful. Thank you very much.
