Sometimes, my better half, Hali, or a merry band of pedal pushers join the circus for what we call “fun” in the cycling biz. It’s not just about how fast we go or how hard we crash; it’s the sagas, the “ooh-ahh” sceneries, and that buzz you get when your two wheels are flirting with gravity.

Mate, so much more riding in west pennant hills before you hit that tunnel there is amazing tracks in the valley plus Cumberland state forest. Happy to explain them all to you. Nice video by the way👍
Thanks for sharing ! I was registered for the 115km ride but lost a month and half riding time just before the event due to a health issue. Loved your perspective of the event.
All good mate! Hope you’ve bounced back. Thanks for the feedback 🤙🤙
Great video mate, Aussie Jon in the Philippines
Thanks 👍 Appreciate it!
Mate Awesome video, it took me home. As an Aussie from Hornsby / Normanhurst. I now live in Philippines - love to see the North shore hasn't changed. Thanks Mate, cheers Jono
Good to hear and glad you got those good vibes 🤙
Deffo a great ride - 'time traveller' you are in Brooklyn, so went back 25 years just then.
Great Scott!!
Loving your content mate 🤟🏽 good to see your training programme is working for you
I think it is! About to finish week 6 of the ftp training. Will do another test and let you all know.
Sounds good 👌🏼 mate 🤟🏽happy you also found that new job . Happy mind happy body 🙏🏼🧘🏻
100%
Looks like an amazing event. That's some proper gravel 👌
It was! Highly recommend it if you can make it next year 🤙
nice to see so many cycling that road - they recently improved the surface making it a superb ride.
Yeah it’s quite the spot especially post covid as the rider numbers are much higher now. We’ve had a bit of heavy rain over here last 5 years so quite a bit get fixed as a result.
proustian stream of consciousness commentary is good - naming the street suburb and direction is also good as i am watching from overseas. I am very familiar with Sydney roads - but looking for landmarks off clipped together footage is difficult - There is a good hill ride for peaks training going from Sydney harbour bridge along the harbour via Mrs Mac's chair and everything to Watsons Bay then south to Bronte and up to the Centennial park - you can get up to 1000m of vertical if you use the landscape in only about 50k riding.
Nice one mate. I’m not often in the city and can get a fair bit of elevation through bobbin head, brooklyn and the gorges 🤙🤙
Nice video mate.
Thanks! Was a fun day out. Always helps :)

Thanks
So if you had ridden up from Sydney - you could have done the Bobbin Head section already by turning through there at Turramurra, the aptly named Bobbin Head road goes straight through it.. and then at Mt Colah you have a choice - left into Galston or right into Berrowra - I prefer the Berowra direction because you climb out of Galston with the cool switchbacks. There is a ferry ride at Berowra Waters going to Arcadia, a gentle but relentless climb - all in all a great day out on the bike and some good scenery to boot.
100% I live near Hornsby so am north of all of this. I generally ride clockwise out of convenience. But have ridden this both ways. Agree that the climb up galston is far better on the switchbacks.
Hey man you are doing great , I also make similar videos though struggling with subscribers😂😂
Hey mate. Thanks! I think the motivation I have is for creating the content. Not getting the subscribers. It’s a full time effort to grow an audience and I am unfortunately not a full time youtuber 😂
Thanks mate! Been looking for some gravel and camping for night 1 on the next roadtrip to Qld from Sydney.
Good stuff mate. Heaps of gravel all around the area.
Noise, that’s not music. My ears.
Just wanted to say I enjoy your vids esp your choice of music and your mixing!
Thanks mate!! Appreciate the feedback.
Same here! Lived in Sydney for 15 years. Now back in Europe. Really enjoying your vids, even when they make me feel “homesick”.
Thanks mate. Happy to fill the void for ya @davepies 🤙🤙
@@loudkitday Really appreciate it, mate 🙌
Like the video. Music killed me though.
Noted. Thanks.
Going against the grain; love it - Subbed.
Yeah it was possibly not the better choice. But I did get a taste! Thanks for the Sub!
Beautiful work friend, these shots are truly inspiring! Love it 👌
Thanks!
Washington cycles wodonga use to do gravel rides I live local you really have to spend months prior doing climbs few times mt buffalo - falls I seen Esteban chavez training few years back I rode up and down - drove home seen him still riding
Wow. Thats really cool about Chavez. Greenedge days... Nice one mate. Keen to find some stuff to do down that way while camping.
@@loudkitday yep green edge days - his smile he was descending - I riding up Dave McParland current sport direct jayco is from here as well
So cool
The back of Falls was a warzone on the day. I lost a solid half hour on it with explosive cramping in every muscle in both legs. I've never seen so many hyper fit people cramping, crying, puking, paperboying and walking their bikes. Sooo hot and not a breath of wind. Out of the hundred or so people who passed me while i sat in a ditch with both legs completely ridgid with cramp I didn't see one person motoring up the climb. Just pure purgatory, pedal stroke after pedal stroke trying not to have a stroke. Still crawled in for a 9hr 13 min finish. Guess I'll have to come back for the sub 9... One day 😂
Mate that is a very impressive effort and time. Well done!
needs better music. the rap is boringly repetitive
Noted. Thanks.
did you avoid princess highway?
I avoid all highways where possible. This is all on the old roads. The only "highway" that would be added to this one would be Pacific Highway as there is no other way in from the city.
Cheers mate! Will be trying this for the first time this weekend. Awesome content!@@loudkitday
Thanks mate. Enjoy it. Pretty sure I included the route in the description 🤙
This is what you get when you get into cycling late in life.
💯
Love the videos, imagine an overlay of the route so we could see where u are along the way, awesome job
Thanks mate. I’ve been thinking about how to add that… I’ll keep investigating 🤙
Great vid mate. That’s my local spin - gorgeous gorges. See u at Peaks! 🫡
Thanks mate. I am 50/50 on peaks at the moment. COVID kicked my but and am struggling to get out. I'll be done there though. Just not sure about tackling Peaks this year.
The best stories have a character people are interested in and become involved with as the story progresses. For me, your "ramblings" are what glue the ride together and are what's interesting. You're the compelling character of the story
Legend! Good to hear mate. Thanks for the feedback 🤙
I'll say the cliche "you create vids you want". But seriously, whether you let the scenery roll past, or share your random head/life thoughts, or tell an epic cycling adventure story I'll definitely check out your video.
Nice! Thanks for this 🤙
Hey loud kit. In the end you should probably do the videos that you want to do. From my perspective I like your videos with some ride footage and some chatting, pretty much as they are now. As I live in Sydney seeing some familiar places is great and gives some ideas for future rides. Keep it up. JJ.
Thanks JJ. Really appreciate the feedback!
Good effort @loudkitday, good to have you back on the road!
Thanks! Good riding with you.
Just found this! Its really cool well done. You were cutting a quick pace on Day 2 that's for sure. Hope to see you back in 2024
Thanks mate. Yeah I was surprisingly on form that day. EPIC!
Half a turbo session completed so thanks for the video as always. Volume of music and voice was very quiet up to 15 mins then voice was loud and music was still quiet. Not a criticism at all just a note for post next time 😊
Thanks mate. Noticed that as well. Wasn’t a noticeable issue when I was editing. But have noted for future.
It would be good if you were to share location. Someone may be interested in your travel and track discovery!🚴
Good idea! I tend to put it all in my description. If there is anything specific I am not including, do let me know! Thanks mate.
Hey loud kit. I like your content and videos. Definitely unique and a different, more everyday person perspective on things as opposed to other youtubers. Keep it up in my opinion. Maybe show a little more of where you're riding. As a Sydneysider I like getting ideas of new places to ride.
Thanks mate. Will work on showing off the scenery more!
Looks like a great route and loving the channel! Any chance of sharing the strava route?
Thanks mate. Appreciate the comment. Have added it to the description 🤙🤙
@@loudkitday thanks!
ah nice, I have just started exploring different bike trails around the area, been doing Bobbo's since the mid 80's, so trying to change it up. So you just loaded a route into your Wahoo and off you went?
yup. that is generally what I do. I also download the route on the ridewithgps app too. Just to ensure I have a cached map in case I get lost or have no signal. I really like the adventure of it all. The unknowns and figuring it all out.
Great video! My back fence is across the creek from where you were near Parramatta. Have ridden lots of the roads in the video but not the gravel. Thanks you’ve given me some good ideas.
Nice one mate! Have to Thank Damo though 😜
Urban gravel rides are the best. We have so many pockets of bush around the north of Sydney to explore.
💯 mate! The trick is working out how to find them all! When I was riding this I was blown away by both the fact that this all exists, but also how you find it all and string it together. Lots of exploring! Thanks again for the route!
Thanks Joe very helpful. Rode sections of that ride a few months. Not being a Richmond local I took a few wrong turns and was up to about 60kms when I got to Wheeny Creek. A guy stopped at the picnic area offered to throw my bike on his Ute and drive me up that bugger of a hill which I gratefully accepted! I’ll try to get further next time. Good riding there.
Nice one mate. Have to love the adventure though right? Nice someone helped out too!
@@loudkitday Sure do. The less cars the better but glad this guy had one!
Good luck with the three month challenge. How is the riding over there in Sydney?
Thanks mate! Yeah I find it's quite good. Plenty of variety and challenging riding. You just have to get to it ;) Where are you riding?
Nice. Spent some time in Sydney some year back and cycled in Adelaide with a friend. I'm based in London which has some good routes just out of the city. @@loudkitday
Your book sounds interesting. Look forward to more gravel videos..All the best for the new year.
Thanks, you too!
Should of done the loop. Instead of turning back when you hit putty rd. Turn right and head towards Windsor.
Yeah I have thought that in retrospect. But wasn’t sure if I was going to turn it into an fondo day! If I go back I’ll look at the loop. Thanks mate!
The Gorge is actually the part between two climbs (essentially a narrow valley, often with water). But a cracker of a ride nonetheless
So tranquil in the morning, captures a side of the country not seen by many.
It was super quiet. Extra moody with smoke from the bushfire.
Some good gravel to be found in the Tamworth area. The Tamworth Cycle Club run an annual gravel event over 52 km (about a 50/50 seal/gravel split) in around July/August. I rode it in 2023 and can recommend it. This event is in the Dungowan and Loomberah area which is just a little east and north of the Goonoo Goonoo area where you rode.
Brilliant info. I was wondering if there were any events. Would be good to do a Gears and Beers like event in TW 💪
As an Australian I am really Offended that you apologised for nothing. Speak your truth unapologetically. I am sure if i went to Canada I would find a few of your terminologies weird too ;)
P.S. Just moved to sydney, never rode the 3 Gorges before. keen for a spin some time mate!
Love it mate. Get out there it’s a brilliant ride.
beautiful route. I can't wait to finish university and move to Australia it looks so beautiful especially for road cycling and you definitely deserve more subs than this, such underrated content. subscribed
Thanks! I really appreciate it. Best of luck finishing university 💪💪
I am holding you to Peaks Challenge in 2024!
I’m in mate. I’m in 🤙
Hey do you know the name of the book that your friend Hali chose the route from?
Hey. Good question. I do. It's the Lonely Planet EPIC bike rides of Australia & NZ. shop.lonelyplanet.com/en-au/products/epic-bike-rides-of-australia-and-new-zealand
I admire your perseverance at the start. I've wanted to do this ride for a while, having been born up at Katoomba, but not having visited for many years. It looks more like a mountain bike route in parts. I've taken a good look at your RideWithGPS route. It looks doable, utilising the train like you did. Will let you know how it goes.
Would be far more comfortable on a mountain bike mate. Get after it!
