    The only extended period in my life when I “woke with sun” was during an old job that I had to get up at 4:30 am for. All I’ll say is that period in my life I was much more spiritually inclined and inspired than since. I remember a part of my drive to work everyday was contemplating the sun and its vast symbology.

    Thanks for sharing this. Yeah I cannot say that I have often 'woke with the sun' myself. Though I have an intuition that there is something to Ficino's recommendation. Your story has made me consider trying it. Though I am something of a night owl I confess.

    Dividing knowledge of evil to atheists and knowledge of good to believers is not going to make you any friends in the atheist community! It sounds like the dangerous idea that, ''You can't be good without God''. Awareness of good events does not force us to accept a theistic God. But awareness of unnecessary ''evil'' does force a well-educated person to agree with Hume and Epicurus. Good behavior is NOT contrary to atheism. But the world's natural problems do force us to question God's silence and passivity. Religious people have persecuted atheists for the whole of history. We are the least trusted group in America (Pew Research). But... we have a far greater claim to the basic, unvarnished truth than the faithful do. And stats show we are better citizens than believers. We can demonstrate altruism and fairness arising through evolutionary processes. Stop demonising us, please.

  • @samuelglenn123

    Thanks for the comment. In no way did I mean to casually associate evil with atheism. The thought which I was exploring in the video was that it was precisely "knowledge of evil" which amounts to the strongest atheistic argument (as Ivan Karamazov articulates in Dostoyevsky's novel). By contrast the "knowledge of good" amounts to the strongest theistic argument. I do think that there is an asymmetry between these positions however. That is - it is only in light of good that evil is objectionable. By contrast, if there is truly no "good" and nihilism obtains then one has no grounds for objecting to evil whatsoever.

    @@samuelglenn123 Yes, I agree with what you wrote. But you casually kept giving Good to God and Evil to Atheists. I know you didn't mean any harm, but millions of mad fundamentalists DO insist that, ''atheists can't be moral, because morality comes exclusively from God.'' We in the atheist community are scared of such simplistic labelling.

    Great. This is timely for me as I ache over what is to be done about a lack of curiosity, or wonder, awe. We can slip into well trodden polemics about the distractions of the modern world (which I often do), but I tend to think this has come downstream from an earlier malaise, also well trodden in the meaning crisis discussion. That malaise stems from the primacy we place on productivity and the world of material things; our reductive materialism, markets, etc. St Paul says he puts away childish things, but the contemporary ear now also puts transcendent things, the things of God into the kiddies cabinet too. Not sure if you’ll agree there Sam? But that’s essentially my experience when endeavouring to talk to my old friends about God. I try and rack my brain as to how we may persuade our society to ponder again on the transcendent, on Christ and, I suppose I’m taking great comfort in what He is saying here. As always, genius in its apparent simplicity. I guess the Tolkien stuff is an appeal to wonder and awe via narrative and mythos. Strange that so many are painfully unaware of that longing for more than “this” in that kind of fandom. Many Conservative types like to rail against the infantilism of the current generation(s), yet in a strange way Christ could be seen as asking us to go deeper with that rather than rail against it. All the way down to toddler level. I’m thinking of my own child staring at the moon. Perhaps there, paradoxically, we shall find that gates to the Kingdom again?

  • @samuelglenn123
    @samuelglenn1239 ай бұрын

    Thanks for this Oliver. Yeah it’s an interesting one - Dawkins particularly would frame theistic belief as ‘childish’. I remember Dawkins’ message being that our culture needs to ‘grow up’ and that we have taken steps in that direction with rationalism and the scientific revolution. The St Paul quotation you mention seems to conflict with Matt 18:3 I was referencing here. So that’s something to ponder. Regarding speaking about God to “secularists” - I think that is simply a matter of calling attention to the metaphysical assumptions underlying their worldview (ie, that there is a truth and it is worth pursuing etc). Clark’s “From Athens to Jerusalem” is really quite brilliant on this point.

You sound like you yourself are not even interested so it’s gonna be hard to get me the listener interested. Also maybe speak with less pauses, you need more fluid speech. Islam is an imitation of Christianity and Judaism brought on by the selfishness of Muhammed, he wanted to have sex with many females and accumulate wealth on this earth! Search Christian Prince for a scholar on this topic. You are right in the fact that God transcends human intelligence and thinking! The trinity is a hard concept to believe, how can 3 be in 1? God reveals himself through many prophecies through the prophets such as Isaiah 53: the role of the messiah, to die for our transgressions. We have manuscripts before the birth of Jesus! Dont be fooled my brother, there's only One God! and that is the God of the Jews, who humbled himself and came down as a human to live a perfect life and preach to us that we may all return to God. Jesus lived the life we are supposed to live as humans, but we are all selfish sinners.

    Great stuff. Exactly the inspiration I needed. I think one way to creatively prophesize is to create and interpret in a circle. Write something, then try to discover anything unintentional in the art/text and interpret it, then build upon that. I guess it is more of a spiral than a circle. In my mind it can work like a dialogue with the Genius. Or like alchemy, I guess.

    Please Read the Bible complete and I think you will see the deception you are buying into. In Genesis the serpent tempted Adam and Eve with fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the hidden wisdom and told them they could be as gods! The world was deceived and it chronicles the journey of Israel and its battles against the gentiles which were pagan/ shamanism. Christians accept Jesus As their Christ, the anointed one, messiah or saviour. Gnosticism twists that story, internalises Christ and tells us we can become gods. It’s Luciferian. It largely makes Jesus sacrifice irrelevant. It reduces Jesus to just another enlightened being. If you read all the Bible you will see that. If you look at the testimony of people who have escaped the new age or gnostic deception it will make you think twice. The great awakening of the new age sounds very like the great falling away or apostasy of the bible. Don’t reject Jesus as you Christ. You are not God, question why the Bible warns against mysticism and the world of deception that exists there. The world is pushing this gnostic or new age message so strongly now through every medium possible. Lucifer comes disguised as an angel of light. All I can ask is you question these beliefs fully, challenge yourself fully and seek Truth, Gods Truth and not your own truth.

Your channel is great. I have just discovered it. I have just completed a creative visual project creating images with my smart phone to document my alchemical process. I was so interested to hear Anne say that images speak to the soul and the unconscious ("the spirit of the depths") more than words. I followed my intuition with the whole experience and it was incredibly rewarding.

    The notion that an animal requires the existence of another realm of ontological Platonic objects to 'explain' how it feels about things or how it perceives things is so weird to me. We have eyes to see and emotions to feel and none of that appears to require more than a body.

  • @samuelglenn123
    @samuelglenn1232 жыл бұрын

    I don’t know that its exactly right to say that an animal requires the existence of Platonic objects. What distinguishes humans for the Greeks is our “rational” nature. Animals are constrained to the merely sensuous where humans can discern the realm of ideas.

    Really wonderful conversation. I'll be honest, I didnt follow everything, but the final comments around authority and teachers really hit home. For me, the best teacher I had was Mrs Towers, Maths teacher, from the barmy town of Wigan. She was strict -at least in comparison with most teachers, but she really invested and provided the resources to help when Maths was really hard. My other favourite teacher was Mr Bate (no relation), my Geography teacher, also because he commanded authority, but gave the students room to think and come up with their own reasons for why things happen. Thanks again Sam and Jonathan.
