    I have this lens, it doesn't have any obvious fungus but the lens is very yellow. It is only usable if i alter the camera's white balance, otherwise everything looks rather sepia!

    Very nice review of the Van. How is your experiance with it mechanically ? Engine gearbox clutch breaks, etc and how reliable is it on longer journies ? What is the maximum speed you have driven this van ?

Cruises on motorway at 100k. Climbs hills with ease too. Just done cam belt every 5 years and serviced every year. It’s been amazing.

    Nice review. A small correction if I may...the stop down switch doesn't operate the metering. If this were the case then it would be stop down metering. In fact, the meter is always on when the lens cap is off. Also, did you realise that there is a "T" setting? With the shutter speed on B, hold down the shutter release while rotating the collar around it. The shutter will then stay open until the collar lock is released.

  • @vintagevantics
    @vintagevanticsАй бұрын

    Thanks for that. Doesn’t it depend on the lens I thought? Mine came with the Supertakumar 55mm 1.8 designed for TTL metering but other lenses need to be stopped down? Not sure but thanks for your comment.

  • @Whywas6scared
    @Whywas6scaredАй бұрын

    @vintagevantics You are correct that open aperture metering is only possible with SMC (super multi coated) lenses like yours. I don't currently have a battery in mine to check, but with other M42 lenses, I believe the meter will still always be on, but will only give an accurate reading when the lens is stopped down. In other words, for a correctly set up camera, the meter needle will be in the "+" region until stopped down.

    Great little camera, very capable and has reached an almost iconic status now! I must admit I've just added one to my retro camera collection after a long search to find one locally at a reasonable price. The model I have is almost pristine and I'm looking forward to shooting some film with it. My quest to get one goes back a long way, on a school trip in the 1970s my best friend took his olympus trip 35, I had our family kodak instamatic, it was only after we compared photos, I realised how crude our family camera was and how much nicer the Olympus Trip photos came out. I said back then I wanted to get one but they were way out of my pocket money price range. Until now....😊 I've added your channel, hopefully you'll connect with another retro camera photographer. 📷
