Flute Pancake

Flute Pancake

Hi!
I'm Anna and welcome to Flute Pancake Channel!
I'm a professional flute player and I want to help you going through the study of this wonderful musical instrument.
Here I just want to share with you some flute exercises, showing you the score so you can follow the notes.
Videos are collected in playlists based on the books with different difficulties, so that everyone - form the beginner to the pro - can find useful informations.
Keep in mind that you have to find your own way to play it best, you just cannot become a great flute player by the imitation of someone else and, most important, remember that practice makes it perfect!
Ready? Let's flute!

An American, I was only familiar with this song because Simon and Garfunkel recorded it. I always liked that recording -- and now I like your version, which brings out the melody in a more simple, pure way. Just beautiful.

Bach should climb out of the grave, like a zombie only to be reminded that his copyright expired centuries ago. “Damn. Well, can I still get maybe just a bite of Anderson’s sweet, succulent braaaiiins? Terribly sorry, and I must apologize, but I AM a zombie, after all, you know.”

This is totally beatiful playing of Morricone's gorgeous melody, but without his very Baroque bass-line and harmony, I think the beauty of his composition is diluted beyond recognition. It is like playing only the soprano line of a Bach organ chorale prelude, or the famed "Air for the G string" (BWV 1068.2). Congrats for learning and playing it beautifully, but a solo instrument performance does not do this gorgeous composition justice.

This is neither Bach nor Tull. This is you building your layers upon what Ian Anderson had built upon Bach. This is just fine; Bach built upon chorales written earlier by others every day of the week.

Bouree was on the "Living in the Past" album which I owned in the 70's. I do not recall any attribution in or on the album materials regarding Bach as the composer of the tune or even the inspiration for the melody. So I thought Anderson composed it.

  • @robinswamidasan

Yes, I do think Tull should have acknowledged JS Bach as the composer in their album credits. Aand also, the 3 composers adapted in "By Kind Permission of", in the same album.

Lovely playing 🎵. It's not by Bach, though - it's by Christian Petzold. Bach compiled it into the Notebook for AMB, and it was assumed to be his. However, it later turned out to have be written (along with Minuet in Gm) by Petzold. I've played these for years, and only recently found out that they were misattributed for a few hundred years! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minuets_in_G_major_and_G_minor

You play well but you should put some acoustic treatment in that room. It smears the sound of what you are playing detrimentally. A nice room reverb is great but too much hurts the music.

In the long, never-ending and vast evolution of music, "new music" has always borrowed directly or inadvertently from the music that preceded those writing and composing the "new music." That's one of the beautiful aspects of music. It's a continuum of a legacy and shared human experience, hip-hop and disco included.

Jethro Tull for sure! :) It's truly amazing what a 'gateway drug' this piece of music was for so many of us back in the 60s. Within a few years of my first hearing this I was studying Early Music (!) at the Royal Conservatory, while making my living playing in various Rock bands! I have no doubt that this was one (of many) "Baroque Rock" adaptations of music that swung my interests in that direction, and have lasted a lifetime. If you want to hear another excellent adaptation of Bach from around this same period, from another British Prog Rock band, please check out the ubiquitous "Fugue In D Minor" by the band Egg. I promise you won't be disappointed! :)
