My great grand uncle blazed the Cumberland Gap Trail.
I’m 11 months late, but I trickled in and thank you for waiting for me!
I briefly lived in Colonel Young's house while a student at Wilberforce University in the 1960s. I recall a second building, a small barn structure. I was told it was used to house formerly enslaved people traveling to Canada and was considered a stop on the Underground Railroad. I'm so thankful for the Young family.
I live here
Another informative podcast! I appreciate the questions and comments alike. You have drawn out information that is not well known. Thank you!
Great video! Thank you Claude Shannon
Excellent news 🎉
I'm so glad you've been recognized for all the work you've done for Frankfort, for Franklin County, and for Kentucky, Russ. You really deserve it. Congratulations!! 💜
Agreed!
Im stuck, my granny was born Bertha Mae Smith, married John King, divorced, married Ike young. I cant find any info on him. Nor who her momma Sarah Jane married (second marriage) just that her last name was Turner. She passed in Middlesboro ky
Oh, Russ, I so enjoyed watching this and hearing you tell your story and your hopes for the future of historical stories.
Thanks for watching Mary! It’s a compliment to have a master storyteller appreciate our video.
Id give an arm and a leg for one of those original printed shirts. If only they didn't destroy them.
Luke gave his hand, and it didn’t go well for him. LOL

If I ever get sick and only have so long to live. I would love to do something that might be cursed or haunted to see if it would kill me. Like putting cloths in the dresser. Lol
Thanks for the enlightenment about Pine Mountain. I was reminded of our modern privileges with education!
Wow, one of the VERY BEST VIDEO! John P.

Still a treasure for all Kentuckians! I'm proud to see how valued it still is.
Why is everyone on a history forum comment section someone famous descendant? As for me I am 7th great grandaughter of Thomas Jefferson and Jane Austen....Not😂😂😂
😋
Also. It’s interesting that you noted the poem about sparing bones sounded like Literature…it’s the inscription on Shakespeare’s crypt cover in Stratford Upon Avon!
The first time I noticed that there were zinc tombstones was at Mount Holly in Little Rock when we had snow one the ground. The rest of the tombstones were so dark against the snow and the zinc ones took on a pale periwinkle color. Then I noticed how sharp the relief images were and had to do some research! They are still in good shape, as far as I know. There is one here in Jonesboro, Arkansas that must have been hit by a falling limb and it caused a bend in a corner junction, which is now rusting a bit. Overall, still in better shape than many of the stone headstones though.
The book is excellently written by a scholar who takes a largely misrepresented position and systematically (and cogently) dismantles the argument succinctly.
Excellently done. Great questions along with keen insights. As someone who hasn't studied 19th century history I feel much better informed about this season in Kentucky. Thank you!
1. Correct name is the Medal of Honor. Congress has nothing to do with it. Proof: If Congress had anything to do with awarding it, every Congressman would have one. 2. One is awarded or has received the Medal of Honor. One does not "win" it. It is not an Oscar or some sports trophy.
There is this new thing called Google, if you Google 'Congressional Medal of Honor', even a child could read all about the "Congressional Medal of Honor Society" or the "Congressional Medal of Honor recipients", or even the Congressional Medal of Honor stories in the Library of Congress. Trolls are so predictable. Do some research.
Hi Olivia, Thanks for the history lesson. Just a point of clarification, the decoration is the Medal of Honor. While the MOH might be approved by Congress, the word Congressional is not part of the title. It is not the Congressional Medal of Honor. Also, the MOH is not something you win and are awarded. It is earned and it is presented.
Gotta love those KZread trolls correcting the Historians on history, and giving their OPINION of things.

Reading the comments.. so sorry about the internet rolls that say such terrible things. I found this interesting from a historical point of view.

Cool exhibit but he got done dirty with that bum microphone you’re using. Sounds like a tape that got twisted by a toddler
Sometimes tech stuff happens that you don't expect, as in this case. The content is what matters, and the efforts of this young student of history. Don't you agree?
@@KentuckyHistoricalSociety I don’t disagree; I’m just saying the audio quality does this young man a major disservice for how cool what he’s doing is.
In highschool n ur a boy scout lol u must not want no 🙀 lol virgin 4 real 😂😂
