@3:25 - the R5 did NOT have the same engine as the RD350. The R5 had piston-port induction, while the RD350 had reed-valve induction (Yamaha's marketing term for reed-valve induction was "torque induction" - clearly visible on the side covers). @4:22 - The Suzuki T500 was NOT originally called the GT500... that name didn't come along until much later in it's production run (made to harmonize with the 2-stroke triple line of GT380, GT550 and GT750)... the riff with Carol Shelby / Ford was not over the alpha-numeric designation, but with the name (Cobra, but changed to Titan for most of the production run). @23:30 - The CB350F was NOT the smallest 4-cylinder motorcycle ever manufactured. Honda (along with Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki) all produced 250cc 4-cylinder motorcycles. Some of these engines had a 19,000 rpm red-line! Cycle World magazine did an excellent article on these bikes in August of 2019. Honda also produced a 5-cylinder 125cc motorcycle (RC149), and a 6-cylinder 250cc motorcycle (RC166), but these were motorcycles made for Grand Prix motorcycle racing. FYI: have been riding motorcycles for 53 years and have owned or ridden many of the bikes on this list (when they were new... so I guess that means I am vintage).

Back around 1990, my uncle Ed gave me a 1974 Honda CL200 he dragged out of a salvage yard. The lights, fenders and anything unnecessary came off and knobby tires went on. We put about a zillion miles on it and absoloutely flogged it mercilessly. It still ran great when it got passed on to the next guy. I wish I still had it, especially 'cause it was a one year-only model. * CL was the on/off road version of the CB, having high-mounted exhaust, lower gearing and some other small differences. Displacement changed over the years, including 125, 175, 200 You don't see 'em as often as CBs, but could be had cheap fairly recently.

It’s an ok bike from factory imo. I wouldn’t own one unless it was to modify. They have great looking frame and motors and like Greg did with his simple mods make them look incredible. There’s other bikes that are better left stock. The cx isnt really one of them

Hey, thanks for this video. I'm curious to know if you have a POV on the Honda CB500t? I have owned Both a 68 CL 450 and a 75 CB450 and I hate myself for letting either of them go. Currently I'm nursing a 96 Buell S3T Thunderbolt back to health.

The 500t seems like a nice bike. Not very desirable because I think you’re almost better off getting a 4 cylinder Honda. But they can be very cheap sometimes and for under $2,000 running wouldn’t be a bad bike imo.

I rode the CB450 and XS650 back to back and although less powerful, I preferred the CB450. I liked the CB550, and spent a day riding a CB400F Super Sport four. But the CB750 was such a wonderful bike that I would pick that over all of these.

The RD350, I get it, but I had the RZ350 Kenny Roberts Special in yellow and black so it's hard to go back! You said you made sure these were attainable and also that you hadn't seen or found a Suzuki t500...what da? I rode the NT650 Hawk GT and was non-plussed in spite of all the hype. The answer came out with the Suzuki SV650, very impressive. I was very excited about the K100 but the right foot peg vibrated intolerably, have never heard a report of this. I've ridden the XS650 and it was no Bonneville, but it was a heck of a paint shaker! Unacceptable! The wonderful Suzuki GS750 was superseded by the GS850, but the little known/appreciated GS1000 essentially used the GS850 frame as opposed to the well known GS1100 which was heavier and larger.

The idle is too low. A single cylinder with a short stroke and automatic decompressor is preferably kept at 1200 rpm per minute when idle. The engine runs best with the original exhaust. If you want a little more power, replace the Keihin carburetor with a flat-slide Mikuni. And retains the original exhaust!! A noisy exhaust gives the impression of generating extra power, but nothing could be further from the truth.

You won’t find a Norton Commando for anywhere near that in Australia. Even an average one will cost $15,000 plus. I’ve seen one listed for $75,000. I have a T140 Bonneville ex-USA which I bought for $5,000 but it was a basket case - now restored and a nice rider. I had to throw much money and time at it. I envy anyone in the US/Canada as prices seem to be more realistic. It’s the Aussie tax which seems to apply to anything worthwhile, with prices ridiculously hiked. A CB750 4 will go for silly money these days. Some of the early BMW bikes are reasonable but most have been molested by the hipsters.

I’d turn it around and say that the Ducati Pantah inspired the Hawk and not the Hawk the Monster. If then only in being a naked. I own a Pantah 600 but the Hawk, which I bought only a few years ago, is still my favorite to ride. I wish I had known sooner. Beside owning a near standard Hawk I am also working on a Hawk special with a Fireblade front end. That totally puts it on a par with modern bikes when it comes to roadholding and braking.

@@navscycles Your arguments become ever weaker. So the Hawk and Monster are modern bikes and those I mention vintage? Only 7 years separate the Pantah and XZ from the Hawk. The Hawk was introduced 35 yers ago. The first Monster is only 3 years younger. Seen from that perspective they have all been introduced within a period of 10 years more then 30 years ago and thus all vintage. Please do your homework before you launch such claims. 🤣

The '5-speed' RD350 simply has a blanking plate to prevent 6th being selected. Yamaha UK issued a bulletin in the seventies warning against removing the plate. 'It can result in the bike going straight from 6th gear to 1st' Absolute bollocks. It is identical to the six-speed engine. Regarding the front TLS Drum Brake: brand new, it was 'the bomb'. It would lock the front wheel at 60mph, two-up! It was simply old age which got it a bad name. I know, as I owned a nearly new UK spec model. Unbeatable by any British 650, I could ride it right up the ass of a CB750, run rings around them on country lanes. Only on a motorway could a CB750 beat one. I rode a mint CB750 K6 too in the mid-eighties. Lovely bike. A return-trip from Amsterdam saw me with £3 left for fuel to get back home to Burnley from Market Harborough in 1988. Minus eight deg C, I used the first 1.5mm of throttle and made it. And made it to work and home until payday the following Friday! I worked it out at 79mpg UK gallons... We bought two bags of crisps before we realised how skint we were in Market Harb' :-)
