Trust me, you are very lucky that that shovel handle was not made of wood. I tried prying up a rock one time and the shovel handle broke and the handle I was holding in my hand and the sharp stick attached to it smacked me square in the middle of the forehead. Required three stitches. Did I tell you I’m absolutely loving your channel?

I have been doing no dead gardening for six years now when we bought our house in May 2018, I discovered very quickly that we live on a river bed so there’s nothing but pebbles and rocks no soil so yeah I like no dig. I found that everything seems to grow a lot better on no dig because you’re not killing the mycorrhiza the fungus and all the other lifeforms and stuff that’s growing in the soil every time you either Dig or just turn over your bed every year about compost to all of my beds.

When it comes to drillbits, I’m a big fan of Milwaukee. I don’t know if you get that brand in the UK or not however, my dad taught me that you get what you pay for. Spend a few extra bucks on a really good drillbit and it’ll last forever.

You know an idea just came to me about your mosquito larvae in your water barrels. If you cover up your barrel so they’re not gonna heat up from the sun maybe with some sort of shade cloth or a little fence or something just cover them you could add goldfish to the water or Koi

I always find that Lane cardboard or pieces of wood on the ground. Near my plants can help with slugs. Early in the morning I usually flip them over and I can pick the slugs off the bottom of the planks of wood or cardboard. It seems like they’re always looking for a place to hide as soon as the sun starts coming up. I don’t know if it works but long long time ago someone suggested using a tuna can and putting beer in it to catch them. I don’t know if that works never tried it. I don’t have a huge slug problem where I’m located here in the United States.

Thanks I think I am going to dew a few different traps for the slugs see how the work out. I have seen the beer traps they seem to work very well. The camera operator is charming! Definitely a better microphone. If you strim before putting the black plastic over, the wind is less likely to lift the plastic. I use the old fashioned two-hand clippers to cut as close to the soil as possible. I can also see what nuisances might be scurrying away. Considering where you started, you're doing well indeed.

Not sure what mic you are using Anthony but its doing a decent job of omitting the majority of the wind. I was laughing mate, you should have just used a bit wire or twine and tie it to the first cane, then to the next cane as you go around, then the very last piece of mesh gets tied to the bit it overlaps, But how you have done it, it will work and they will attach to it. You wouldnt believe how much i spent on compost in my first year or 2 mate. Now i make my own and still buy Clover multi and Clover professional occassionally.Sound quality is much better with the mic than without mate. I have tried egg shells, straw, chopped straw, Thyme even beer traps, the beer traps worked best out of all of them mate. Spuds are looking great. This year my courgette does not want to grow, not even sprout....but my beans are doing very well, while the year before my beans did not want to grow and I had cabbages to feed the neighborhood. If You have a slug problem you may try crushed eggshells around the plants. The sluggs hate to go over sharp surfaces. Sweden and turnips will grow without too much thinning. They'll push each other enough to grow. Personally I would leave them as is. It's a learning process for the children and you to watch how plants will find their own space. Those red leaves look like they're supposed to be that colour. Let them grow on a bit, don't bother too much unless the larger leaves are green.

Anthony the ground where ya beets are could very well be too acidic mate, deficient of Phosphorus. Initially phosphorus deficient leaves are dark green but very quickly turn red due to the lack of nutrients. Test your soil to confirm this and if it is to acidic adjust the ph level. Add fertilisers to boost the phosphorus level, DONT over water or it can cause root problems. Yes you can prick out turnips and swede and transplant them just be very careful with the roots. For your peas either tie string around the wigwam or use chicken wire rolled around and fastened with a bit string or cable tie, but if you have wood pigeons in the area you would be well advised to net over the peas, be warned that if the netting is to close to the pease the tendrils will reach out and attach themselves to your netting . A simple but effective rodent trap. 1 bucket, 1 beverage can, 1 stick or piece of rod. Put holes top and bottom of the container, offset, large enough to allow the container to swivel. 2 holes, directly opposite of each other through the top edged of the bucket to hold the rod/stick. Fill the bucket half way with water, thread the rod through one side of the bucket, then through the beverage container, then through the opposite side. Put bait on the can/container. Add some sort of ramp. Rodents go for the bait, can swivels, rodent end up in water never to go anywhere again. If your neighbours do the same thing, then the rodents should be far less. My method is only plant what you are going to eat, just plant more of it and save money, your spuds are way better than mine and they went in later than mine, you are doing great.

I think that's what I am going to do. Everything we go in I eat will try the odd different thing see if we like it. I don't get how good my spuds have been looking I havnt done anything with them

Those potatoes are amazing! Nothing is harder than getting rid of a "spare tire!" 🤣 Enjoying your updates - the good, the bad, and the ugly - from Syracuse, New York!

They are very surprised how good they are doing considering I didn't do anything with the bed no feed etc. that tire was an absolute nightmare 😂 think I will have to reuse it. Glad you are enjoying the updates thanks.

I filmed a bit just a bit quieter than normal just didn't want to get them in the shot much going to have to find a time when nobody is up there. Don't think any of my neighbours watch mine yet that I know of

Those allotments are rubbish- literally! Shame on the council for leaving them in that state for plotholders to deal with. It makes me very angry on your behalf! Keep on keeping on! 👏👏

Wow, what was there before the alotments? There is a lot of plastic and rubble in the ground. On the bright side, in the end You will have a lot of honour from Your hard work. You make a big difference with everything You do 👍

From what I know there was a stable with one horse on there but half of what's on there you would think it was a car garage. I can't wait till it's all done and clear and I can look back on it and feel proud. Thanks

It's really starting to come together. Have you thought about drawing a plan of your plot with all the raised beds, compost bays and water butts so you can make the most of the space?
