How did this end up working out? I have a '79 in Minerva too, and need a new bottle (mine is cracked). I've heard mixed things, and really don't want to go with the compromised Mercedes alternative.
Not sure but it looked like the check vale was flush but it should be a bit lower because if the engine gets hot it could get stuck and stop the oil flow i reccomend you check that again
Progress!🎉
Great video . And keep at it . Really enjoying the videos
Moving forward
great job!
I'm happy to see rabbit progress. You'll get through these and that thing will be kick ass.
Keep wacking the moles! Great job!
👍👍👍👍👍 👍👍👍👍👍 👍👍👍👍👍 👍👍👍👍👍
Good engines. Designed and built to be reliable actually. Issues here or there but minimal overall. Love mine in my GransSport.
Have you tried looking into audi v8? It appears to have similarly thin oil pan in the back
That is a consideration for sure. Not quite as cool, but lots newer and easier to work on. (Abz versions)
chances of fitting this in a polo 9n? I've just started with modding and been reading buckets and am genuinely mechanically curious. If the idea is dumb would equally be happy to learn why. Im a late car bloomer (started driving at 32). My first car was a 2003 polo 9n and Im to sentimental to get rid, so I want to pimp the crap out of it.
I would presume that it would fit well since there is already a 4 cyl engine in the 9n polo
What’s up brother it’s me again lol I’m trying to find images of the connector for the body control module on a 14 cc 3.6 4 motion for some reason it’s not coming up help
You can download the part of the manual that has connector pinouts and locations from erwin
@@ThrottleGrotto yes true but pinout assignment for the BCM, J519, T52C (brown plug) assignment list is not available on Erwin for the 2014 VW cc 3.6L 4 motion
Put a portal axel box where the bellhousing should be
You're not the first to mention that. I can't believe that would be a cheap or low profile solution
@@ThrottleGrotto maybe use a modified v drive box out of a boat like a old donzi
Rear mount turbo
Doable. I think a few people have gone that route in the past. Really the only place to mount it.
@@ThrottleGrotto 5 lbs boot should add 100 hp and methanol instead of an intercooler . Beat that sucker like it owes you money, as long as you don’t drive over the crank mid corner it should be a hoot . A cheap eBay turbo and some exhaust pipe….. just saying
I love the banter about your immaculate work surface and undercarriage 🤣🤘
You’re the man!
You’re the man for making roadster videos. Not enough KZreadrs making legitimate videos about these awesome cars.
Is this a 2000cc? Might be a 4 speed 😅
ABA ftw, simple and just work lol
Abandoned is a great swap, I've already had an aba swapped mk1
Im curious as to where the idea of this specific engine came from. I had the impression that it was a swap that was done before and you were just trying to figure out the best way for YOU to do it.
It was a swap I've seen others use in various cars and I decided to go all in and missed that one crucial measurement
@@ThrottleGrotto ohh, gotcha. So would probably be a Pioneer in that sense most likely! lol
Would’ve been a cool swap, but just keep it original and improve what you can. 👍🏼
You got this Jeff. ❤ long live the rabbit. I guess if all else fails you could swap in 16v and maybe even supercharge it.
There's always the 07k 2.5 swap if this doesn't work out.
I'm sorry, that's the only advice I can offer.
Thanks- it's disappointing, but still recoverable at this point.
I thought you big youtube guys all got a special license or something that allowed you to not run a hood and put the motor or turbos or exhaust at windshield height. If you haven't yet, I'd reach out to youtube support and see where your license is. Maybe it was lost in the mail, or maybe you have you have to apply for it. I guess I assumed they sent them out automatically.
😆 you must have mistaken me for a big youtuber. I think that license comes with your silver play button.
thank you for using real measurement
Dry sump and a mountain of cash but a boosted 928 would be cool
There's not many engines that will fit and also have room for a turbo, even with the massive bay
I've done a late model subaru engine into VW bus and had to use a CANBUS emulator due to the CAN wiring system.....could this be an issue? as VW use CAN also. AGT engineering in Australia did my loom, but not sure who does emulators for late VW to early VW.
I can still access the ECU. But the lack of an ABS module seems to cause issues with newer model VW swaps.
I may be out of touch with the market, but I'd say 18k for a beautiful V8 Porsche, running but not running well, that is about fair
It's definitely cheaper than a similar 911, but it hasn't returned the fun like a 911 would yet.
@ThrottleGrotto just needs that mazarati engine and exhaust note :)
Standalone! Would be good content?
It would be good content, just another financial drain that I can't swing right now.
Sent you a msg on your Facebook page…
I think you have to sit and reflect upon why u did this specific swap after the 1.8T. If it was because of the challenge, then this IS the challenge. Keep working on it until you figure it out. If it was just to be different and it was more than you could chew, then yes, time to take a few steps back and decide what the ultimate goal is it with this car. If its any comfort, ive driven my Corrado for 13k miles with a 3.6 swap and the early days where full of headaches, even on a swap that was done before many times. In the end, between me and the shop, we pin pointed the biggest issues and then its been super reliable ever since. So, its not impossible, just needs a clear head to make sensible decisions that can take you to the ultimate goal.
You're absolutely correct. I did do it for the challenge. I expected I was over the challenge hurdles and on to more fun ventures. But now I have the challenge of figuring out the wiring issues, which is never as easy as we all hope.
@@ThrottleGrotto dont give up on it!
Have you asked Boxeer they are doing stuff with the 1.4t, different applications but still swaps.
buy a full vanagon swap kit first then he might reply with any questions afterwards 😂
I did reach out to him - we've had a few short discussions prior to his release of the kits. I presume he's too swamped now selling kits.
@@ThrottleGrotto bleed edge eh, but keep at it man I have no doubt it's some super simple little thing.
@@edstababy yeah, who dosent have a spare 15k+ sitting around!
Yeeeees, rabbit update!
Man, sucks that it's giving you trouble. I guess I'd look at making it work vs returning to a 1.8T like this: What's more work? What costs more? What's the best result? What do you think your answers are?
probably overall less work to fish out the harness, untape it, and find the problem. Or problems.
Our Mk5 Jetta air conditioner stopped working. Took a while to find the problem. The washer heaters were shorting to ground right near the hood hinge. The AC limit switch was also on the same fuse. Who would ever know in the summer that their heated washers would not work. All this to say, it's probably a good idea to inspect the wiring. Maybe you will find a mouse house, melted wire, bad ground somewhere. It's a modern 1.4T engine in a MKI Golf. It's super unique. From one rando on the internet, please don't give up on it. You got this.
It very well could be a bad wire/connection or a ground issue. Just not looking forward to undoing the whole engine harness and the inspection process. That's a wild pairing with the A/C and the heated washer nozzles.
If it’s a wiring problem what good is a stand alone ?
Ecu wiring is a separate harness from the chassis harness.
Beware of the genuine Porsche TO Bearing. They’ve finally admitted there was an issue; went through 2… There is a rebuilt unit that works.
I'm amazed they even admitted a problem!!!!😆
I think it took LOTS of complaining. They wouldn’t compensate for any labor or other related damage. But yes, quite a lot for them to agree.
I've wanted to swap a ford coyote V8 into a 928. Did you ever consider that engine?
I did consider that, but the cost was higher for the coyote engine, and I wasn't entirely sure if it would fit
just ordered a pair of vintage blue monza LXBs for my 84 GTI. seeing these in your car makes me super stoked to get my pair in
The blue monzas will look amazing with the blue interior. Solid choice!
I installed this same kit and came back and watched this and I’m not sure if Michael let you know that the new caliper adapters are mild steel and should be painted or powder coated. Thanks for making the video, definitely was helpful when I was planning my swap! Check out Pegasus racing for custom brake lines if you want to eliminate some of the apapters.
I'll have to keep that in mind for the winter, I may try and redo the clutch and brake pedals this winter to get some better actuation on both
it was my first car! I loved it.
Thats a great choice for a first car!
Man you're making me more and more scared to pull my dash 😂. I'll wait for some more sunny weather and just pull the windshield at the same time
If you have a new seal and a decent windshield, it's easy to cut the existing seal and extract the window. Mine wouldn't have survived that experience.
@@ThrottleGrotto mine is way too chipped to save. A local glass shop said they can get them at a decently resonable price
@@Teenys.garage I'd be interested to know price and part number on that.
@@ThrottleGrotto I'll check in with the glass shop again and find out
What year is the fuel pump cabrio?
Digifant 89-93
+10pts for a unique swap. I love the Maserati engine, love the corvette suspension, but you're brave or stupid mixing german electronics, iltalian eletricals and adding the driveline for complexity. New subscriber ftw!
I am definitely less on the brave side of your equation!
Hi…do you know how to lookout for ecu pinout?each individual wire
You can find the ecm module and then look at the pin reference (example 68/2 = 68 pin plug, wire 2) and then trace it to the next location on the diagram
I think the dash turned out really good. I recently fixed my mr2 dash with the similar process and just sanded the sem texture paint with 400 grit lightly to smooth out the dots and the texture is spot on. Btw love your content and I recently got a 68 roadster in Washington as well
Congrats on the roadster! I probably should have sanded it down to take the bumps off, but I can always use a dash cap later.
@@ThrottleGrotto thanks!! And yeah, it still an improvement over the previous dash
Might not be too late, but having done a mk1 rabbit dash with a FlockIt kit, Id recommend it as a last resort.
The flockit kit would have been really great in this application, but finding one locally wasn't going to happen
Great job buddy! Wekfest is amazing!
Thanks! We'll see if I get to attend. Not sure how long they take to let people know
amazing decision man
This is how I feel most days that I work on my 1970 1600. Every couple of days, something works and that makes all the difference.
I agree. There's always the 3 steps forward, 2 back version of progress.
