Welcome to the Mentors For Military Podcast (aka Mentors4mil). I’m your host, Robert Gowin, and I spent 20 years in the US Army, initially in Armor and then later as a recruiter, in-service recruiter, and career counselor. Kyle Neal is a host who served in the Army as an airborne Cavalry Scout with the 173rd Airborne Brigade and other airborne units.
We’ve had the opportunity to sit down with some of the most amazing people. Often times, we are joined by guests who have traveled across the globe to share their story - stories of passion, service, and struggle aimed at empowering our listeners, no matter their background.
As our network of followers and friends has grown, we have been granted special access to take our listeners behind the scenes, including exclusive access to the 75th Ranger Regiment. Whether we are going inside the elite 75th Ranger Regiment HQ, chatting with NY Times best sellers, or digging in with PSYOP units, each episode we bring you the topics that matter!

These blokes are nothing more than elite airborne infantry like the British Parachute Regiment. In fact the Paras selection and training is harder. 75th Ranger Battalion boys have failed P Company. Typical American mutual masturbation. Salutation’s from Belfast Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
I was a 91B that got picked to be in LRSC made it to Halo plt but the PSG “didn’t know what to do with me” so I became the CO’s driver who was a green beret doing his company time before he can lead an ODA got in good with him, we had a 2 week field ops where we stayed in our compound and boathouse & 3rd detachments (waterborne plt) PSG SFC SHANAMAN from C-Co3/75 was also an mma fighter and found out that I boxed and he wanted me in his Det, he literally traded 2 inf guys to HQ for me to get on the teams (3-2) it was definitely the best time of my life.. had to learn the ranger creed, got my balls smoked, and got to do field/ range ops, fries zodiac training/ PT and even deployed with them boys!! they wanted me to reenlist and change my mos and go to ranger school but I was young and “in love” honestly wish I would’ve stayed in!!

Dude looks overweight.
I thought a roll of Copenhagen was standard issue in Ranger Batt.
Dude looks and sounds like a fuckin’ serial killer/psycho, am I right?
can you focus on 11B and 11C instead of these types of rangers? All due respect but.. come on... and that colombian guy thinks this is his personal documentary. dude's hogging the mic
36:20 Randy’s experience in US Ranger School
Great connection jajaja
I miss the Army.
I completed Ranger School at the age of 44, it was fine and a privilege to take part in - prepare and remember that they won’t kill you and they can’t make you pregnant! 🇺🇸🇬🇧
2 of the hardest jobs in America. . . Navy Seal and waking up a Black Man everyday.
Shouldn’t need to prepare too much these days. They got women pushing through just fine without those “prison workouts” 😂 If I was in when women first got sent through I’d burn my fucking tab and never admit to going.
He’s not lying 😂 I remember three dudes getting sent away for being ugly 😂 That was the old rip days but it never changes.

Yeah, we could tell by your name and comment. Stay proud queen. 🎉
Al is THE Mam in the cockpit. His skill on the Takur Gahr mission is one that likely no other pilot could have flown. Wow, what a hero.
Long Range Surveillance Detachment! 25th Infantry 1985! Great to catch this podcast! Just turning 64 next month! Watching and hearing the evolution of LRRP,LRSD to the present day! I'm proud to be part of this elite legacy!
I see a Chad in you. Bakersfield
Question is how did the 91B go to ranger school?
In my opinion, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were fought by a multi-generational military. In very broad strokes, and especially at the outset of the wars, Millennials were the E-1 to E-4s, Generation X were E-5 to E-8s, and Baby Boomers made up E-9s and general officers. I know that breakdown is very general, and there are always exceptions to the rule, but to say that Iraq and Afghanistan were Millennial wars is not accurate. It is accurate, however, that a Millennial would take credit for everything.
This man had the most negative effect on me as a senior leader. He literally backed me into a corner my first year working civil service as a military spouse in Germany over something that was out of my control. The OIC and NCOIC had to step in, literally. A MFR was done with dozens of pages about the incident and he effectively was banned from coming into the S1 office. I’ll add at the time my husband was a service member who fell under this man, he couldn’t do anything. Such a difficult place to be for both of us. CSM Stockdill has passion for his soldiers no doubt but I almost quit because of him. The primary duty is to be soldier but I was a military spouse and under no circumstance should I have been treated the way I was nor would he tolerate someone intimidating his wife the way he did me. I tell other people about this encounter and how important it was in my career in civil service. I still work government but have determined by this instance what good and bad leaders look like. Thankful for his service but the most toxic person in my career.
What happened to the high and tight?
Sweet CPL rank
I’m attempting to go in at 32. This gives me hope and a boost in confidence.
Thank you SM❤❤❤❤🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸101st Airborne Air Assault much respect to the 75th regiment. I had a chance to drive for Lieutenant General Lindsay at Ft Benning in July 85. He flew in from Ft.Bragg to watch a night crossing on the Chattahoochee River 3rd Ranger Bn & 2nd Ranger Bn did the mission. God bless🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸RLTW.
💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Tiny females are in Ranger Regiment these days and a lot of females are tabbed, so it can’t be that hard, am I right?
Naw I'm too busy enjoying life. Traveling, fishing, hunting etc. Life is short I don't have time to be scared to live
Logan just passed my leadership interview with flying colors. Teams can tell if a leader genuinely cares or not. Logan cares and will make them better. A person with this type of mindset has endless opportunities.
you should do a podcast with a sf operator and his wife and talked about the struggle of it all and how to try and overcome them. great episode!
That’s a good American
SFC Lewis was my RI in Florida. He taught us a lot
88N in the 75th!
Yeah he’s right about missing the camaraderie. Was in the Air Force in 2017-18 but I didn’t like it. I loved my friends and I miss that till this day. But I didn’t like the Air Force life I was mentally stubborn. So all my friends used to have to watch me get in trouble almost every single day 😭
I am so glad I found this episode. I also have mental health history and seeing that you got this far gives me a lot of inspiration. I know i can do it. i’m squared, I know it’s possible to be in regiment with my history now. This gives me more hope in my attempt to get my waivers
Ngl bro if you have mental health problems don’t try being a ranger but you can still get really really far in life . If you deploy and end up traumatized or mutilated or anything on the sort you’re history could literally be a big big factor in rather you live or die . This isn’t for everyone and if you have mental or physical issues ( not legal ) then this may not be a good idea bro . Not to be rude but just to be honest bruh. To many ppl wanna be cool and end up committing suicide later bc they weren’t cut for this like they claim to be
@@RackeddUp I appreciate where you’re coming from my guy but i am good seriously. I know you are coming from a good place but you just don’t know how i am or what my situation was. My history does not make me who i am. I do not have mental health issues anymore, i have not for almost 5 years. My problems were situational. Things a young teen should not have to deal with. I did not have guidance on how to deal with my emotions. Now I am grown. Now I know how to deal with my issues. I count it as a plus, i already been in the deepest holes and i made it out. I know i can make myself better cause i have. Again I appreciate where you’re coming from
Rangers are awesome!
Served with this cat , solid brother

RLTW!
Great!! God bless the U.S.A. As a black man in the military, this gives me great feeling knowing that our country can deliver on its promise. May we just keep growing stronger and uniting and truly start giving all equal opportunity!!
The guy with the beard sounds exactly like Bill Clinton
😂😂
This guy puts Sam Hanna to shame.
Yup
Time stamp 14:17...the culture of America at that time (the 90's) was a White man's culture...in America? When did it change? I think George Floyd and Ahmaud Aurbry might have a different perspective if they were alive to tell their stories.
Your latter is definitely greater than your former! Testimony!!!
Thank you for sharing, this was a great interview, GOD BLESS AND STAY SAFE. SEMPER FI 86-91
Glad you enjoyed it
