We were the first Aviation Company to occupy the airfield in October 1962. I served with the 611th Trans and later the 330th Trans for 13 months 17 days there. Love the video of Bai Sau and Bai Truc and the downtown scenes.

Brings back lots of memories. I was the RTO (radio/telephone operator) for 3rd platoon, Co E (later changed to Co D), 4/47th Bn, 2nd Bde (Mobile Riverine Force), 9th ID, 1968-69. I arrived during the May Offensive and was one of 12 survivors in my platoon by the end of that month (we usually had 25 to 30 in our platoon). The Phase III Offensive happened in August of 1968. We hit a river ambush on 8/18/1968 and I was one of 4 survivors from my platoon to finish that mission. Everyone in my platoon was wounded in our ATC (armored troop carrier - like the landing craft on D-Day in Saving Pvt Ryan), but a few of us were patched up and finished that operation. Anyone who claims they won the Vietnam War after the Tet Offensive in 1968 has no idea what they are talking about. There was never a plan to "win" in Vietnam.

This was Christmas 1968. I had just got in country the first week in November. I was assigned to HHC, 2nd Brigade on the USS Benewah. I worked in the S1 shop and was the awards clerk. Colonel R.C.[Rodman Charles] Rainville was our Brigade Commander at this time. Everybody went to this show it seemed.

Well damn. We definately won the battle against the river banks. A dangerous foe, a sleeping giant. Good thing we burned all the river banks before they could mobilize.

I was there. I was the platoon RTO for 3rd platoon, Co. D, 4/47th Bn, 2nd Bde (Mobile Riverine Force), 9th Infantry Division for the first 6 months of my tour. After being wounded when my platoon was wiped out on 8/18/1968. When my platoon leader came back from the hospital he made me is clerk in S-2 (brigade "intelligence"). I was a REMF when this show came to Dong Tam and I remember a Cobra gunship opening up nearby. It spooked Bob Hope a bit but the show went on. Thanks to all who came to entertain and Thomas for making this available to us.

I served a tour in the 9th ID in the Delta, another tour in the 101st ABN, and 2 in MACV as an Advisor. The 9th was the toughest and best by far in my opinion, the 101st was good, so was the Advisory duty, but I have to say they were no match for the 9th. In the 9th we never got much, if any real publicly, I don't think many Reporters cared to go or expose themselves, where we had to. It was some tough terrain to be sure.

My brother in law, a Sergent, was on one of those with the 9th. His boat moored off duty on a pier attached to an LST in mid river. They took fire on patrol one day. He returned fire with an M- 60 mg, and the VC targeted him of course, send at least one round through the stock and grip. He sent me a photo of a happy guy with a pressure bandage around his arm, and a shite eating grin. A million dollar wound!
