Trevor, thank you! You're amazing and awesome!
“Da Rat man forgive you this time” The Stand
So many successes. 😮
That was intense...
Trevor im on my nth rewatch and the episode actually has lore that connect all the way to season 4. Zyrator is probably the is same type of undead that Veil is hunting down. We also know that the Order of the Purifying Flame is on the way to this location which makes me believe the leaders Ramona, Alistar and the other leader themselves were going to that location or sent Veil's superior from season 3 to extinguish the wanna be Lich but Simon and crew did the job. The temple was also the last one in the areas explored in seasons 1 and 3 which is why the order had time to hunt Edbert in season 3 before the seal started weakening on season 4s villain. Sorry that was long but i hope that made sense. Just cool that the lore connects like that or thats just my headcannon at least.
Very nice to see this video. I was thinking I was the only person who remembered Harn. How about a review of 100 Bushels of Rye?

This is probably not going to go well because I don’t like this game and I read the comments where it looks like everyone else does. Let me say that I have not ever seen a game that had better rating or more beautiful books, both layout and quality. With that said, I’m gonna say this and try to keep it short. I think that DG would’ve been MUCH more appealing to me if the all of the looming horror could POSSIBLY destroy your PCs mind and relationships - or even PROBABLY. Instead, in DG, Losing your mind and all of your relationships is INEVITABLE. That’s my complaint. Your demise is inevitable. I don’t understand how that’s fun. I’m not trying to be contrary. I just really don’t get it. I’m parking my car on the railroad tracks hoping that I’ll survive the train smashing into me. The remarkable backstory and beautiful books don’t make up for a hopeless premise. It just doesn’t attract me. .
Late to the party but, man, I'm hooked. Great intro, but most importantly, amazing system. It's probably changed quite a bit during the season but I'm already on board.
The deities and clerical orders of this setting kind of give me Tekumel vibes.
Been a long time since I played in the lands of the Petal Throne. Those were the days.
That priest sounded a bit like Pal Pal. I wonder if that will come into effect later.
Where do you get your settings from?
I'd never heard of anything Harn-related a few years ago but thanks to you it's a whole new cool thing for me to check out. Thanks dude
duodecahedron is a d12 icosahedron is a d20 🤓😄
The "Say Yes" needs a little fleshing out. I go with "Yes and..", "Yes but...", "No and...", "No but..." and it works for almost every situation, almost.
Time to delve the city depths! And that deus ex machina 😅
Oh Yes. I love Chybisa! My favorite campaign of all time was set there. A knight and his retinue reclaiming a ruined manor. Not so much political, but orc an barbarian raids, saving a young noble woman from a kidnappings and forced marriage, to romance betwenn the knight and the maiden. It lasted 10 game years (just shy of 2 real years). It was great fun and everyone involved enjoyed it. A wonder part of Harn to hold adventures.
When I saw it, Chybisa made me think it's a word spelled like ancient Greek. With the 'Ch' sounding like a "K". Similar to Charon or Charybdis. Which, in turn, makes me wonder if Chybisa has some Byzantine influences, having been primarily Greek-speaking in it's time.
Re-watching for the Broken Empires RPG. I’d forgotten just how supremely unlucky Simon was. Now I’m imagining a world where we got Vilborg as the protagonist of season 2, lol.
Loved the episode again! It was a bit of a numbers-heavy scene, though. The new initiative system does add more numbers. I hope you keep it simple enough and stay true to your “sim light” premise. I have tried my hand at my own roleplay system once and I failed, mostly, I think, because it got bogged down in numbers and details and more sub-rules to try and achieve “realism”. I hope I won’t need a higher degree in mathematics, so to speak, to play or game master this system. Great episode though: the enthusiasm, the voice acting, the gleeful giggles at some of the rolls... This is so much better than watching regular tv.
Thanks for the great overview! I was the primary writer for the Kingdom of Chybisa and the Genin Trail so it’s great to see someone go from the top and drill down into the details. I’m glad you enjoyed the Kingdom!
Chybisa is my favorite kingdom in Harn, but I use "favorite" lightly because the entire setting is fascinating. Chybisa was the first kingdom that caught my eye. I love the idea of this small kingdom sandwiched between 2 superpowers (Kaldor and Melderyn) and trying desperately to carve out a space for themselves. The question is, can they secure their freedom by the quill, or will it be by the sword? Thanks for covering this!
Always love your review content, Mr. Devall.
Chybisa is a great place for RP. I am running my play by post SWADE campaign with Fantasy Companion in Chybisa. The PCs are working for Baron Jebril Rythal to try and reclaim the lost manors along the border. The players are currently wandering around one of the ruins after having booted some Bandits out.
It's a shame that the video is so short - I would have loved to watch much longer... I really hope you will make more videos about Harn and Harnmaster. Thank you for the great video!
What a beautiful book!
Interesting stuff, second time heard about Harn. As a Pole it brings a smile that Chybisa (word "chyba" - I guess / maybe or "chybić" - to miss) and Burzyn ("burzyć" - to demolish or "burza" - storm) were most likely inspired by polish language. Even the front art reminds me of some portreyals i saw of battle of Cedynia.
I didn't watch the whole video. I'm really not a fan of Harn. I prefer simpler rules.
Hârn isn't a ruleset. It is a setting in which you can use whatever rules you want. People use all sorts of rules with the setting. You may be getting it mixed up with the HârnMaster rules, which aren't needed to use the Hârn setting.
@@bbailey01Thanks. I got it confused with the game he plays with all the hit charts and weapon stats. Role Master? I feel foolish.
Totally admire and applaud Harn but, and I know this is going to sound daft, I just find the level of detail completely offputting.
HârnWorld location data is quite easily glossed over - it's there if you need it but not at all required. If you're talking about the HârnMaster rules, please note you can play using any game system - Hârn is system neutral.
Caer Burzyn is such a high tech fortification, I love it. Amazing what a motivated dwarf mason can accomplish.
I have all the Harn products from the very beginning and ran a campaign back in the 80's. The freedom to use whatever I wanted from the setting was perfect. Today, I would only run the game if the players didn't know much if anything about the Harn setting. I don't want to run a Harn game. I want to run my game using the Harn setting. To be honest with myself, I doubt I ever will.
My fav kingdom in Harn - waiting on some more rule books for 6th Ed pendragon. Want to run a small campaign in Chybisa.
A few of us were talking about using 6e for Harn in the Pendragon discord. What rules are you waiting on? Magic is the big one for me, but I might just grab the BRP book and steal some systems from there.
That sounds really good.
@@kdolanjr I was waiting on the GM guide mainly. I haven’t really delved into the magic of harnmaster, the combat charts just threw me off to much and I stopped reading lol. Got a link for the discord? Wouldn’t mind joining a harn world/pendragon game
Hopefully I'll get a chance to use this world. I've been grabbing all the setting books over the last few years through their Kickstarters. At the least I'm just glad to own them as it's a beautiful world they've created and the books are really nice, but would love to explore it.
Is there a Harn Lite. I like everything about Harn except the extra crunchiness.
The HarnWorld stuff is almost completely system neutral (HarnMaster is the system, btw), so I would recommend using OpenQuest with the HarnWorld books. I've also heard of folks using the setting in D&D and a bunch of other settings
No Harn Lite but the Harnworld setting book would be more than enough to run a game in the setting. The best games I ever played or ran in the setting were back when that information was all we had.
Just play any system you like! It is system agnostic! HârnMaster is only an option.
Not sure why KZread ate my reply, but what I had tried to say earlier was that HarnWorld is just setting, HarnMaster is the system, and lots of folks use world with other systems. I recommend OpenQuest
The Harn kingdom modules are system neutral. You can run them in whatever system works for you. The Magic/Religion modules do imply Harnmaster as the system, but you can adapt them.
Nice to see a prosperous fellow Harniac. What I always liked was the feel of a “real world”. I recall playing a game in Harn and the GM had as an adventure a birthday party for the head of a manor.. and the intrigue of getting an invitation, an acceptable gift and making a good impression to get a “job” from the Lords bailiff. Definitely not a D6 of orcs in a dungeon.
Malcolm Reynolds would have never hired Mara, with her ties to the government
Love the glee Trevor has every time Thrag slaps him. Excellent episode!
The 'scary' thing about this talk is its similarities to how long-term careers in militaries in the western world work. You can have your own way of doing things, but ultimately you are part of team and long after you have retired, the institution must endure. I worked 43 years in that world, and even now am still assimilating that basic fact; and I worked at parliament, our equivalent of the US Congress, as well as attending the Security Council of the United Nations, so I was given wonderful insights. Great talk guys. Your reflections on 'process' and interaction were insightful and have broader application than just Harn, or voice-overs. Well done.
Really helpful knowing what you had to say. Thanks
Great retelling of your story. Loved the split between working through the rule book, then playing out the scenario with miniatures, then the follow-up. So impressed, I bought the rule book because of your video. Thanks.
DDDUUUUUDDDEEEEE!!!!!!! So stoked for this project!!! I've been watching since season 1 where you introduced me to playing RPGs solo and Savage Worlds. I've signed up for the early launch bonus, and cannot wait!!! Good luck Trevor!
Hmm a new slogan perhaps? Instead of #simonsucks the move is #vailfail. (Apologies if I spelled her name wrong. I can't find it in writing anywhere!) This series is a banger!
Third time working through this season in particular. Such a good story!
What terrain was used for this battle report, the other terrain was Battle Systems but I don't recognise this terrain.
Dragonbane from Free League is a d20 skill-based roll under system. It's like a d100 system, but with a d20. If you have 12 in acrobatics, you need to roll 12 or under to succeed. You still have the advantage and disadvantage mechanics, called Boons and Banes, but they work the opposite way. Boons roll 2d20 and keep the lowest, Banes roll 2d20 and keep the highest. They also have the critical mechanics, called Roll a Dragon and Roll a Demon. Roll a Dragon is roll a 1, and Roll a Demon is roll a 20.

I would love to see Starforged from Trevor. This was awesome to see some sci-fi, but I guess I'm not as into watching such a skirmish heavy game compared to the narrative heavy games in the main seasons. I feel like Starforged would be awesome for that as a series. Still, great video.
13:30 - A gonzo world, aka the World of Warcraft method of world building.
If this doesn't hook you into Savage Worlds or solo-style RPGs ... not sure what will! Wow! This is top shelf quality! Give it a watch! :)
I was looking at Savage Worlds and this ... this was the motivation I finally needed to dive in full tilt. Trevor does a marvelous job showcasing just how flexible and fun this system is for narrative storytelling. What a legend! Definitely earned a lifelong subscriber today. :)
