Fantastic episode as always! I was smiling by the end. "The beauty of solo roleplay" indeed! I really like the social conflict rules, they were worth the wait. I can see them working great with a group of players, but they seem good for solo too. I particularly love the "tolerance die". Very cool way of implementing a "clock" that could be used in other situations. That was an evil cliffhanger, though. Cannot wait for the next episode!

Insane how different people can interpret things differently. When I heard "Bestow Tactics" I was CERTAIN that Mr. Death Knight was going to show up and tell our dear beloved general "We believe there was an interloper at the party. The one called Lady Akima is not who she says she is. Your task is to find her and bring her before the vizier." Making him choose between the two duties.

I've found in solo role play there's a little bit of failing forward that has to happen to keep the story going otherwise you grind to a halt. And drawing a conclusion that keeps the story going is best. I've had too many times when I've made a roll and got a result only to go with a result that actually ruined the game for me.

  • @faemerothgoblinbane

@christophercobb8008 True. But the idea I presented still has that opportunity. But at the same time, risks are what make the game fun. Sometimes a story just ends. And then a new one can begin.

Social encounter rules. You may want to consider a negative to the next die roll when an attempt fails. As in the seduction roll. Generally, a person is put off with another when the other person does something that they are not in agreement. The greater the failure equals the greater the penalty. Spending a resolve point would negate the penalty. Rolling a double number, ie 88, would mean a resolve point cannot be used to negate the penalty.

  • @eldivandecthulhu

A recommendation with zero success: You obtain a number of success equal to the units of the dice. It's always a tiny possibility of a great hit in every roll! What a great episode btw!

These assasins are obviously some sort of death cult and Veil's death is all they care about (possibly taking out a general who might act against the liche later is just gravy). They are all happy to die if it means the threat to the liche is removed. Indeed, maybe the "Silent Death" assassins are so-called because they are sworn to die whether their mission is successful or not - that way, no one can ever question them.

Oh, I thought I should elaborate why I think the social encounter rule work for solo. The nature of the rules, from what I observed, is the player says something to the NPC, the GM determine what skill to roll from what they said, and there's a time limit for successful encounter. Pretty much you do the same in solo except you build the speech / action then you determine yourself what skill applied based on that speech. The details of the rules is enough to accomodate the mechanic be it in group or solo

Just when I thought things were going well for Veil and Thragg, the dice says otherwise 😅 Although while Akhom technically hasn’t shown up yet, I like him. I don’t know, I just like a good badass henchmen lol. Plus I have the bad feeling if Veil and Thragg keeps surviving again from the assassins (I hope they survive tho lol), He might just handle things himself. Especially since the dice really love for him to take action LOL Also love the Simon mention. I do miss that poor unlucky ranger. And yeah I don’t think any of the past MCs could pull off the flirting LOL.

Alright, it's been 2 weeks, yo. Where's the next episode?! I definitely like the social encounter rules. I'm hoping you'll add oracles for solo play that help streamline the process some. The Burning Wheel and Mouse Guard in particular had a very intriguing system built in but it was difficult to solo and still create a sense of wonder of the unknown. And to have limits in your system to how often you can keep up the questioning before you've spent the encounter is also great. I would perhaps suggest adding a system that leverages your characters strengths versus their foes. In the old Mayfair DC Heroes RPG from the 80s and 90s the social interaction rules had rules like bluff. Where if you try a persuade skill and your intellect is higher than your foes you get a column shift modifier in your favor, but if it turns out your foe is smarter, then you get a negative column shift modifier. Definitely something a player would have to glean from play if the character(s) have a chance of pulling off one of these maneuvers. Anyways, good stuff. Keep it up and hopefully episode 6 will drop soon. I hope you're not thinking of cutting the season short simply to get the kickstarter going. That would be a disservice to us fans that enjoy your work. I have enjoyed the longer seasons like when I was younger. I am not a fan of the trend in modern television to make seasons shrink from 22-25 episodes to like 6-8. That's no bueno.

The Vizier wears a mask, but why? An idea I had was that historically, when there was a true sultan/king/ruler, when the vizier would rule in their stead for whatever reason, the vizier would wear a mask of the true ruler to demonstrate that they use the ruler's authority, not their own. Since there hasn't been a true ruler in generations, the same mask of the last ruler has been passed down from vizier to vizier.

I liked that Veil failed her seduction attempt. On one hand it makes sense that with her "profession" and personality that she probably wouldn't really like going that route and as such not be too good at it, and on the other, as a woman myself, it is refreshing to see a female spy/assassin that is not a femme fatale and has to be smart and work hard to achieve things instead of just shaking her titties (no hate, if it works it works, but there's already plenty of that at Hollywood) Gotta love Mythic and this kind of emulators because possibilities are endless depending on each person. I would have interpreted that last Interrupted Scene completely different, but this is what keeps it so interesting!! Can't wait for the next video
