StatQuest with Josh Starmer

StatQuest with Josh Starmer

Statistics, Machine Learning and Data Science can sometimes seem like very scary topics, but since each technique is really just a combination of small and simple steps, they are actually quite simple. My goal with StatQuest is to break down the major methodologies into easy to understand pieces. That said, I don't dumb down the material. Instead, I build up your understanding so that you are smarter.

    Hi StatQuest, you said that by scaling the inputs between 0 and 1 it makes the math easier, but what would change if the inputs were not scaled. Also great series of videos :))

If I wanna get some intuition before going deep into the text book in a very quick manner no doubt I'll watch stat quest. I wanna meet you at least once. Thank you so much man. Respect for you buddy.

You deserve the best and I really appreciate your time and efforts. Thanks again for your wonderful KZread channel. BAM!! Best, Arash

  • @statquest
    @statquestКүн бұрын

    Yes - I believe that is the manuscript - it might be that I misspoke and this wasn't an example of a transformer in genomics (and instead a diffusion model). That said, there are lots of uses of BERT (an encoder-only transformer) in omics. Just google. BAM! :)

    Hi Josh, quick question on the % interpretation of the r- squared. How can I interpret the percent in comparison to the whole, i.e. 100%? If I try n number of variables to explain y values and their individual r-squared sum up to 100% then can I interpret that these n variables together FULLY explain the variation in y? Why or why not? Appreciate it. @statquest

  • @statquest

    Is this a homework question?

  • @ghopuram
    @ghopuram2 күн бұрын

    @@statquest not really as I am done with school already :) . I was just thinking out loud as I went through the video. My interpretation is that those n variables CAN NOT account for 100% explanation of variation in y because it would mean that I have found a combination of n variables that explain a phenomenon. This would be the case as if I have found n variables that scientifically explain the variable y and I should be able to come up with an scientific equation. My guess is that the aggregation of % of r squared may be less than, equal to or more than 100% but can’t explain how. If you explain that with your magical video, it would benefit your audience, including myself. Thanks

  • @statquest
    @statquestКүн бұрын

    @@ghopuram Another thing to think about is that there is usually some amount of correlation among the "independent" variables (variables in the model that attempt explain the y-axis variable). And thus, there is overlap in the variation explained by each variable.

  • @ghopuram
    @ghopuramКүн бұрын

    @@statquest that makes sense. So multicollinearity must be identified for any model. Lesser the overlap, better is model prediction output.

    The videos are over-animated. You need to see at all times a reasonable chunk of the expression or picture you are talking about. Often, the animation forces the field of view to narrow to only the part the video creator thinks you need to see. This does not help comprehension at all. It would have been best to keep the animation simple, show a reasonable chunk of what you are talking about, and use simple highlighting if you wanted to emphasize something.
