How about a double line for the cable issue. Basically use the first idea you had but instead of power cables use regular cables and cable anchors and beside them have the power cables connected. That way you can lift/lower the sub with the cables while the power cables just stretch along. But you might need weight blocks with the connectors or use two sets of winches. I really wish I could just simply show you what I mean 😂

@@BizzaDan damn, too bad. The only other thing I could come up with, would be something entirely different. A forklift type of lowering system with rails and hinges. An active stabilizer would work wonders to keep your ship level, though it does add a bit of weight, and you could have a third winch with the cable connector just to attach the sub to the ship while you fuss around on top attaching the ropes. That way you can have the sub connected and stable while you try to get the ropes attached, also the tension from the cable connector might help pull you closer to the lifting crane. I have a very large ship (I can't move it at all in the build area, up, down, left, right, forwards, or backwards) and so far I have an over boarding system that can lift things off of the deck and bring them over the stern to be lowered into the water. When I can bring myself to tear back into the ship, I will be adding a deck mounted folding crane that will be able to lift anything from hopefully any part of the ship, as well as adding two forward pod thrusters to work with the rear pod thrusters to give me omnidirectional movement and extra power. The over boarding system is a pivoting gantry with pistons mounted to short rails, and a pivoting giant winch for power and length. I've used it to lift the front of the old mission tanker and place its bow on the aft deck. If nothing else, you could always add a crane of you own to the ship to lift the sub.
@BizzaDan7 күн бұрын
I was originally going to make a folding crane, but I was having so many problems with pivots, they all seem to be really weak at the moment unfortunately. Your ship sounds pretty good! its a lot of effort to finish off something that big!
@lordraven19917 күн бұрын
@@BizzaDan Been working on it off and on for about 5 years now, every time I go back to play, I do a slight redesign to it using better building techniques. The over boarding gantry was a redesign of a sliding frame that just went back and forth like your helipad. The proposed folding crane will be an improvement to the original extending boom crane I had and didn't like. I counter the weak pivots by just using them as hinges and using pistons on rails as the main force to move parts. The gantry has a total of 8 pistons mounted to deck rails to bring it almost down to the deck when fully pulled in, and it hangs nicely off the stern when at full extension. I like the old-school heavy machinery look it gives everything to have huge pistons and hinges.

Nice. Perhaps you could have a small tank on the left side of the ship that fills with water as you deploy the sub and then empties as you bring it back in. Or, here's a bit of a left field idea. What about a small VTOL that could lift off from the heli pad and carry the sub?

That is so cool, I wonder how hard it would be to make a tethered ROV sub that stays attached to the ship? I was trying to make something like that using a giant winch that would be lowered with it to increase the distance it could go down and out. But I struggled to make it compact enough to not take up a whole area of my ship.
