Vas Katsaras

Vas Katsaras

Ever wanted something to be better. I mean it does what its supposed to do, but deep down there is something telling you that it can be improved? Well that's me. And I am sure you feel the same. From the age of 5 i have been pulling things apart to figure out how they work, put them back together, and always find some type of way to improve it or BUILD IT BETTER

So I read some post online where people do not advise sandblasting valve covers...I believe it depends on the valve cover design. Do M50"b25" valve covers have any tricky baffle where the sand can get trapped and possibly ruin the engine? Thanks

Note: If you want to build a budget turbo stroker motor using the M54B30 crank, and you're like me with an M50B25 non VANOS thinking "Oh, i'll just use the THICK BOY non VANOS rods with the 3 liter crank", then think again. You cannot run them as they hit the bottom of the bores with the longer stroke crank. It almost has a 1.5cm longer stroke. Ask me how i know... I guess you could start cutting. It doesn't look like too much needs to be cut away. Definetly doable, i just got aftermarket rods instead. Didn't wanna deal with the headache.

  • @VasKatsaras

Yeah I would assume it's from the longer stroke. No issue with the 2.8

I don't really have a parts list but everything is available from ECS tuning online. Thanks to @itsmikelake for the tip on welding the oil pump gear in place. This should stop the oil pump issue. Just don't go overboard on your bearing type. The standard and kolberchmeit bearings are very forgiving. Meaning it won't damage your crank in the event you run out of oil again.

  • @VasKatsaras

Thank you. Yes you can use the b28 head on the M50 block. The blocks are identical excluding internals and the oil supply for the Vanoss comes externally from the oil filter housing. The vowels are the same in both engines but this springs are different. The M50 springs are wider.

Another option for head sealing is o-ringing the block, then you can run a stock composite head gasket and it will hold to over 1k hp. Pretty handy if you're pulling the head regularly because the stock head gaskets are cheap.

Disadvantage is if something goes wrong with the tune up etc or detonation u will take the head out just use stock OEM gasket with arps it works great u rather have the head gasket go out then destroying the head the gasket is acting as a fuse basically the o ring system or fire ring system is basically making the head one with the block and it puts alot of stress on the center off the head when its clamped down this system is good for drag racing only but for a reliable build that can take punishment stock gasket is best on the bmw m50 and other models of bmw engines in my opinion

  • @jona199924

@@prienchutterpaul6638 it makes sense you always want to have a weak point somewhere. For me i rather my driveshaft break than my trans or diff going out it's easier to replace a driveshaft than a transmission that way you get the car going the same day within an hour of it breaking. In the engine id rather replace a gasket than the head so it makes sense to use OEM plus FCP euro will just give you a new one
