    I dont understand why braid is safer than fluro and mono on a locked drag assuming both are the same breaking strain. Wouldnt stretch make it safer?

  • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
    @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL9 күн бұрын

    Hey Jacob! Nope. Stretch is actually worse and here’s why. When your line(mono or fluoro) can stretch, the spool can experience different amounts of line tension in different locations. This will cause “hot spots” of tension. Braid will not stretch and will have a more uniform amount of “crushing force” on the spool allowing it to withstand the forces it experiences. That said, technically on a locked drag, if your line breaking strain is very high yes you will likely warp or break your spool regardless of the type of line you are using. Hope that helps explain it a bit. Cheers my friend!

  • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
    @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL9 күн бұрын

    @@wyattdahlstrom9156 hey wyatt! I believe the Acura(original) in this video does have roro bearings in it which allow it to spin for nearly as long as the Aldebaran. If you don’t want to spend the money on bearings you can try giving your stock bearings a clean in some acetone or isopropyl alcohol. It actually may be easiest just to dunk the entire spool in some isopropyl alcohol as the c-clip on the newer Acura pro is a bit more difficult to remove due to the increased tolerances on it. So is there any benefit In the old long shaft or only negatives? And how much difference does it really make if any?

  • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
    @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL11 күн бұрын

    Hey tube! According the Soloking the original long shaft version doesn’t have benefits over the newer short shaft version. From what they’ve told me, the short shaft version has a stronger spool shaft that will not bend under pressure as easily, and it is also almost 1g lighter than the long shaft spool. Now most of that weight is along the center axis and so how much it actually helps reduce the moment of inertia is beyond me but in my experience I was able to cast lower weights with the pro vs the original reel. Many say that the pro model is a bit underbraked but you can always add some 0.5mm thick 4mm diameter n52 magnets to the existing one to increase the overall brake strength. Cheers my friend!

    @@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL so the new reel just came in and I don't know if it's just because maybe I have a little use (not a whole lot) on my long shaft version or If it's the extra bearing but the non-Pro is WAY smoother. It also free spins better. Also noticed they changed the drag system from a screw-on dragStar to a spring loaded one which on my pro model is kind of clunky/grabby compared to the screw-on version. The drag does seem stronger on the pro version though. You also get a larger range of adjustment on the spool tension without the clicker.

    Awesome video! Do you have any idea on how to change the other bearing? I mean the other one on the spool which is hidden in the side panel?

  • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
    @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL12 күн бұрын

    Hey game! So the side plate bearing is held in by a spring clip. You will have to use some forceps to remove one of the arms of the spring clip and then the clip should be able to be removed. Keep in mind that the spring clips acts like a spring and can fly off into oblivion. I like to try and keep my thumb over the clip while removing it and also work in a well lit and clutter free area in case it does fly off. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

    @@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL thank you very much! So I successfully removed the spring clip, but the bearing seems to be somewhat stuck, do you have any idea how to make it loose?

  • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
    @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL11 күн бұрын

    @gamefixxer5974 hey game! Hm… it could be because the bearing isn’t being pulled out of the housing straight. If the bearing starts getting pulled at an angle the edges of the housing might start digging into the side plate. If you have something that has a small right angle and is fairly strong you can try working the bearing loose. Otherwise, it might be a good idea to invest in a bearing puller tool. I got one from roro a while back that I’ve enjoyed using. You can also try using a small screw driver and angling so that you can work the bearing free but so so equally from all sides of the bearing so that it doesn’t come out at a severe angle. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

    I order the purelure bfs telescopic travel rod (high end one which cost 100 USD) rod which came in damage with a crack reel seat, so I message them, and they sent me a replacement (cost 5 USD) also, came in damaged by the wrap of the eyes. I then ask for refund and got denied due to receiving items already.

    Откровенно говоря , емли это и есть недочеты этой катушки , то я считаю их просто незначительными . Те катушки которые есть у меня я делал все то же самое , и независимо от цены , пересбор и точная подгонка перед использованием , во время и после продолжительного использования сродни проверки зазоров клапанов в двигателе . Т.е - я считаю что нсли вам необходимо подложить пару шайб регулировки где то - то это не страшно. Вы берете продукт , и подгоняете его под своё ухо и тактильные ощущения . Вот и всё.

    Hey toong! I somewhat agree with you regarding doing your own “pretune” for reels to make the tolerances even better. However, many folks do not have the comfort to do this type of work. Also, really these reels should come with better tolerances and no need to fix issues like a poorly shimmed line guide. I hope Histar addresses these issues soon. Cheers my friend!

    Hey bro what is the minimum casting weight on one with uprades and the minimum casting weight of one stock

  • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
    @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL16 күн бұрын

    Hey Arlo! Unfortunately, I never got a chance to use the reel in its stock form as it was in such a poor state that it needed to be rebuilt before being able to be used. After the upgrades though, and since this video I’ve actually installed the magnetic brakes along with the corresponding spool, I can cast 0.8g decently. I say decently because I have not tried to test the lower limits of what it can do as likely I’d be casting lures over 1g with this reel due to the fiberglass rods it would be paired with. Hope that helps a bit and cheers my friend!
