  Introducing the Perseus faction in this game was really interesting and recontextualizes the events of BO1. Dragovich was a key member of Perseus, using rouge soviet elements to set up his plan. After he died and the underwater base and nova 6 was destroyed, Perseus suffered a huge setback, not coming up with another big plan until the 80's, and was still reliant on traces of Dragovich's work.

  Mason ended up with Dissociative Identity Disorder, meaning he was hallucinating Reznov and actually doing Reznov's actions and words, like killing Steiner and states: "My name is Viktor Reznov and I will have my REVENGE!" So Reznov reprogrammed Mason's brainwashing into Viktor's main motive kill Dragovich, Steiner, Kravchenko. Also there's Alex's friendship with Viktor and imagining him there during the procedure, which eventually led to the hallucination of Reznov after he sacrificed himself to help Mason escape Vorkuta and let the reprogramming do it's thing. Also, Mason was a part of the assassination of JFK with Lee Harvey Oswald as the second shooter and Mason saying, "Oswald compromised." Most likely being a sleeper agent as well, only Oswald was caught, and Mason was never caught.
