I lived in Berlin for 2 years from 1996 to 1998 as a 21 year old British Joiner. Since then I have been to many countries but nowhere has ever quenched my thirst for life like Berlin did to me as a young man. Amazing place, amazing times. Not been back since but planning a trip this summer with a friend. Yes I know it will have changed alot like any city. I remember lots of friendly Turkish German people, the character of the place, the food, the architecture, everything. I shared an apartment with a plasterer from Newcastle on Friedrichstrasse. I worked in Mitte near the hauptbahnoff. Alexanderplatz is mega! To anyone considering whether to go to Berlin or not I would say DO IT. Fair enough it was along time ago since I was there but I bet you any money the character will still be there. It was miles better than Manchester all them years ago. This city opened my eyes to a world of open minded people and possibilities far beyond Manchester. Foolishly I returned to this island that is the uk, no culture, no spirit. Just my view
