Genoa is a somewhat decayed noble port town and this, however, is what makes it so interesting and pretty. Difference between a culturally diverse port city, and the charm of centuries of history, is very present. Le patrimoine architectural est sublime et de la vieille ville à la gare de Brignole les styles sont très variés. Quant à la cuisine et aux spécialités gastronomiques les foccacias et les gelati c'est un régal ! Vivent les pâtes au pesto et la farinata, socca génoise.

I traveled to Genova some 29 years ago. I came at night and woke up to a window with a view of laundry hanged on ropes from building to building. Quite a sight! I have great memories of that trip. Some areas where a bit dangerous then. I remember it’s plazas and cafes, and I did got to see Christopher’s Columbus house which looks now exactly the same as I remember it. A friend brought me to some place by the sea where you could walk in a little trail by the cliffs. It was windy but the view was beautiful! I wonder were it was.

The trail that your friend took you to, was probably Nervi or Bogliasco (East of Genoa)very close to the train line maybe? I lived and worked in Genoa for 27 years, now I live in my native Surrey, England. I sometimes wonder now maybe I should have stayed.

Actually the name is Genoa Cricket and Football Club 1893. Of British heritage and the first club in Italy. The ironic comment above shows the spirit of the fans of the other team hosted by the town. Another note, never saw adding cheese to pesto. Not a drama but looks like adding salt to something that should be already perfectly salted, or sugar to a marshmallow. This said, nice clip and beautiful photography. Congratulations.

Genoa is the historocal team of Genoa ( same name ) since 1893. Sampdoria 1946. And it is more specifically from sampierdarena that was not in Genoa until 1926.
What about the Genoa lift?

Genoa has a fair share of lifts - we assume you refer to Ascensore Castello d'Albertis-Montegalletto? As we visited Bigo and Spianata Castelletto, Montegalletto lift managed to escape us. Definitely on our to-do list for the next visit 😉

If we're not mistaken, you're asking about football clubs. U.C. Sampdoria and Genoa C.F.C. are both based in Genoa in the Liguria region in the north-west of Italy. Palermo F.C., however, is from Sicily in the south, so on the opposite side of Italy.

Palermo, Genova and Parma are 3 different cities based in 3 different (and so far between them) places in Italy. By the way, and consequentially, Genoa and Sampdoria belong to the same city (Genova), instead Palermo is the football team of Palermo city and Parma is the football team of Parma city. Maybe, next time, try to read a geography book or, more simply, wikipedia.....

As Italian, Genoa is simply magnificent from an artistic and architectural point of view, the problem is that it is a fairly delinquent city, dangerous at night if you are alone. I don't recommend it.

@@tropicanaye1085 a Genova ci vivo e ho vissuto a Napoli, Roma, Milano e altre città, provengo da una famiglia del sud e conosco molto bene il resto del sud e dell'Italia in generale. Mi sa che hai sbagliato qualcosa o sei capitata in un giorno sbagliato, se c'è una cosa che funziona a Genova è il trasporto pubblico. Informati meglio perché è stato preso anche come esempio dalla BBC di recente. Inoltre la città non vedo perché chiamarla cesso, che motivo c'è? Mica è una favelas! Inoltre la delinquenza è limitata ad alcune zone dove si sono stanziati extracomunitari... Insomma la tua critica sembra più un attacco gratuito alla città, fatto con superficialità da chi in realtà non la conosce.

"Little hidden gem"?? Genoa is neither little nor hidden! It's a Big, bulky Metropolis you get along when you wanna go to the Eastern Riviera or Western Riviera ...

We went in with the same expectations, but got pleasantly surprised by the coziness and vibe of the old town. That stark contrast made us feel like it is hiding in plane sight.

"Little hidden gem" is just an expression, It means that it's precious. Yes, Genoa city is big, bigger than Milan. Milan surface is 180 kmq and Genoa about 240 kmq
So the cathedral of San Lorenzo would be similar to the cathedral of Florence? How much ignorance. The Genoese one is a typical example of French-inspired Romanesque-Gothic construction but declined with the black-white bands typical of Liguria alone!

You are absolutely right, it was not intended as an in-depth comparison of style or architecture of both marvels, but merely an observation of the feeling we got admiring both, that got inadvertently miscommunicated while adapting for the short format of the video. Thank you for your insight!

San Lorenzo is a.typical example of Italian gothic with a hint of Romanesque... Florence cathedral is reneissance !
La ville dans son ensemble vaut largement le détour ! Qu'on arrête de porter des jugements négatifs et qu'on regarde de près son patrimoine qu'il soit architectural, gastronomique ou culturel. Ayant eu l'occasion de visiter les lieux il y a de quoi voir même si cela ne paie pas de mine au premier abord.

A prima vista? Solo il porto farebbe venire un infarto pure a James Bond... Non parliamo poi del centro storico, di Carignano, Portoria, di Corso Italia e Albaro, (Boccadasse inclusa) dove anche un cieco capirebbe che si trova di fronte ad un capolavoro unico dell'architettura mondiale ed una Delle più belle città italiane, se non europee...

Couldn't agree more, first impressions really don't do justice to the city, it's worth to dig a bit deeper.
America was not discovered... a bit of critical reflection on Christopher Columbus and the colonial history of Europe would have been nice ;)

Oh history ... You're absolutely right - better term would be paving the way for the widespread European exploration and colonization of the Americas.
Unfortunately the local people are very rude and unpleasant. They are unable face a tourist and offer him good services. I am more than disappointed and will never go back there…

It absolutely is Genova! But so is Genoa, only depends on the language - that's why we used both 😉 And it's a lovely city to visit, regardless of the name!

Se faccio un video in lingua inglese sulla città di Genova dirò quindi Genoa . Così come se faccio un video in lingua italiana sulla capitale inglese dirò Londra anziché London , e se faccio un video in italiano sulla capitale francese diròParigi e non Paris ... Non mi sembra difficile ....
Really? We've been there and it's all just tourist stuff to see. The Aquarium was really sad. Felt sorry for the animals, especially for the dolphins. They looked so bored and sad.
