    Why do you guys get the reels on the wrong side? I see most people having to switch hands after casting. Why not buy a reel with everything swapped to the other side. It’s the same price. I even have this exact setup but left hand reel.

    I’ve always reel with my right hand on a baitcaster. I think most do if they are right handed. I’m right handed so I like to use my thumb to control the spool. I think it’s more of a personal preference.

    Little late to this video but I do bass fishing in New England. I don’t have to cast too far to reach where I need to fish and the max weight of the fish are 7lbs if I’m really lucky. Do you recommend a medium or medium heavy rod with the bait caster?

    I have the 6’6 rod for river smallmouth and have caught probably about 100ish bass on it so far, I have a Lew’s speed spool pro classic on it. Most fish I catch are about a pound but some 2’s and 3’s through out. Also a few 4ish lb largemouth in ponds and lakes, a few northern, channel cat, even a bowfin recently, she’s takes it all. I understand some folks may have issues but I’ve enjoyed the vengeance rod I have, I will say I finally cracked an eyelet but I super glued it and have since caught a few dozen fish with no line fray. Once I finally bust this rod I’ll probably buy the 7’0 version for a bit more bend in the rod will fighting fish as well as casting distance.

    I do sales and service on Baitcasters and Old Tyme Spinners such as Zebco 33's, Johnson Century, Sabra and ABU Garcia #170, etc. In my 50+ years of fishing and servicing reels there's not much difference in these two reels. However, if I have to choose between these I prefer the Lew's. I have the Classic, Classic Pro and Reactor in my arsenal of baitcasters. You ask Why? I like the bearing system in the Lew's reels best. I do a small upgrade before I sell the Lew's "Budget" reels. Lew's use a better bearing location on the spool whereas the ABU does not. The upgrade I spoke of is on the Spool bearing. By doing this I will gain 5-10 yards on a long cast. ABU will gain 2-5 yards ... The main reason for such difference is the bearing location. I personally own at least one of every Lew's baitcasting reels. Lew's is the best in my opinion.

  • @simplesouthernoutdoors

    That’s some awesome information. As of now I would have to agree with you. After using both for a little now, I would have to give the edge to Lew’s. I’ve had to oil the Abu Gracia already and the Lew’s I have not. Other than that I do like both of them. Thanks for watching!

    Nice review, my friend. I was interested to hear someone else's take on the Custom XP. Picked mine up on sale about a year ago and I do like it, but I don't love it. Once you compare it to other Lew's reels like you did here (In my case, The Mach CRUSH and Pro SP reels) you start to understand why price matters. Haha. Out of curiosity, do you ever experience what feels like slipping with yours? Like with anything over 3 lbs. Even with the drag tight. Thank you!

    I spent three days getting the settings to work. The camera does not actually follow your settings. It will take photos either constantly when you want it to delay. Which will burn all your battery in a few hours. Or on the other hand the camera will not take photos or upload at all. It is so unreliable in completely unexpected ways. There is no way to work around this poor software. Customer service was no help and told me to get lost. Do not support this company, you will regret the frustration and time.

    We burn up a Motorguide back in the early 90's doing what you are doing with the trolling motor, using it like an outboard and going long distances like that, so once we got the 4hp outboard the trolling motor got to do what it was made for, moving the boat around when needed in short burst vs long trips with highest voltage current draw on that number 5 setting with the wind in your face.

My wife has the black max combo $61 and she has not have one problem good break on all 3 I like all 3 about the same thing in quality. But I haven't pulled them apart to look inside each and find out the bearings kinds. Big ceramic fan with every penny non sealed & sealed is ok that's it. Swiss bearing's 👍🏽 best.

    I have two Barnett crossbows in my collection, a TS380 and this Whitetail Hunter STR. I also shoot heavier bolts in mine rather than what they come with. I use Carbon Express Piledrivers 20" and 22" with 100 grain field points and broadheads. Nobody ever told me to do that and I just used my intuition by doing so. They are much cheaper compared to other premium crossbow arrow/bolts. My gut instincts told me that those ultra light hyper velocity arrows/bolts that all the guys foam at the mouth over these days can't be good on your bow long term if you shoot it a lot. I read a article of a Bow Technician who works at Bass Pro say exactly the same thing. People who shoot over 400 grain arrows/bolts don't seem to have the problems with the split limbs delaminating or prematurely cracking. They also don't seem to have strings that break during firing or blowing apart. Feet per second comes at your own risk and you really tear up your equipment indiscriminately chasing it. Like he said, how fast is fast enough? Pretty sure we both agree anything 300 - 400 fps will easily kill and down a deer. No reason to wreck your equipment while doing it. I like to shoot my crossbows often and all year round. Someone who only confirms zero once in a while and only hunts with theirs might not notice as much. Oh, and $39 for a half dozen is a whole lot better than $69 - $100 per three obviously as well.

  • @simplesouthernoutdoors
    @simplesouthernoutdoors6 ай бұрын

    You are correct. I like to shoot heavier bolts also. I believe it cuts down on vibration by slowing it down some. Just like you said taking less stress off those limbs. Thanks for watching!

  • @JohnDoeEagle1
    @JohnDoeEagle16 ай бұрын

    @@simplesouthernoutdoors He laughed because the speed chasers think they are being cheap and trying to save money buying 400+ grain bolts. Around 440 - 450 to be more precise. What we are really doing is quieting the bow down and greatly increasing the life expectancy of the limbs. Barnett will warranty your limbs if you crack them, but who wants to go through all of that if you can prevent it. You have downtime waiting and might miss a important part of the season if you don't have a backup crossbow to use. Which brings up yet another point. You can't buy very many of those $1,000+ crossbows they are using going fast. For that price you can own 3 of these and have spares.
