Abu Garcia vs Lews Classic Pro ** Budget Reels Comparison **

Спорт

Here is a comparison of two popular budget reels and I wanted to see how they performed. I was very surprised how close they were honestly. In my opinion both of these reels would be great choice getting started on a budget.

I always wondered why people who cast right handed just dont use a left handed bc i started with a right then switched over and its so much better i guess its oersonal preference

I do sales and service on Baitcasters and Old Tyme Spinners such as Zebco 33's, Johnson Century, Sabra and ABU Garcia #170, etc. In my 50+ years of fishing and servicing reels there's not much difference in these two reels. However, if I have to choose between these I prefer the Lew's. I have the Classic, Classic Pro and Reactor in my arsenal of baitcasters. You ask Why? I like the bearing system in the Lew's reels best. I do a small upgrade before I sell the Lew's "Budget" reels. Lew's use a better bearing location on the spool whereas the ABU does not. The upgrade I spoke of is on the Spool bearing. By doing this I will gain 5-10 yards on a long cast. ABU will gain 2-5 yards ... The main reason for such difference is the bearing location. I personally own at least one of every Lew's baitcasting reels. Lew's is the best in my opinion.

That’s some awesome information. As of now I would have to agree with you. After using both for a little now, I would have to give the edge to Lew’s. I’ve had to oil the Abu Gracia already and the Lew’s I have not. Other than that I do like both of them. Thanks for watching!

For the price of $60 I got the Lew's Classic reel and the ABU Garcia max z reel and like them both. My wife has the black max combo $61 and she has not have one problem good break on all 3 I like all 3 about the same thing in quality. But I haven't pulled them apart to look inside each and find out the bearings kinds. Big ceramic fan with every penny non sealed & sealed is ok that's it. Swiss bearing's 👍🏽 best.

I have 2 of the ABU Garcias, and so far so good. I haven't tried the Lew's, but they're both a faster gear ratio than I prefer. I'll still take my 30 year old Shimano's over any modern reel when the chips are down. I have absolutely no use for a retrieve speed faster than 6:1. I find that it's easier to speed up with a slower gear ratio than it is to slow down enough with a faster reel.

hey! like the video and i’m trying to go from spinning reel and rod to baitcaster setup and i’m actually getting the same setup you used for the lews setup. could you tell me what your brake settings and stuff were?

On my baitcaster I like my brakes close to 5 to 7. Basically about half way. I like like spool tension to be were my bait falls slowly at rod horizontal position without backlash on spool. I will adjust that depending if throwing into the wind. Hope that helps you some. Thanks for watching! good luck !

IME, the brake setting are dependent on the individual preference. For a newcomer I suggest you set the spool brake, (on same side as the handle), to where the bait will not fall or just barely moves the spool. Set the magnetic to a 6-7. Then as you get more used to the reel, losen it up a little ...losen again as you become acquainted with the reel. Don't be discouraged if you get backlashes. Everyone does but keep trying and you'll soon be enjoying the benefits of a baitcaster. I've been using baitcasters since I was 8 years old. Started on an Ambassadeur 5000 made in the early 1960's.
