    Wondering myself to make a switch from the Sennheiser Momentum 3 to this headphone. I liked your review a lot and the S2e is a beautiful headphone. (Like the PX8❤). For me comfort and audio quality are the only important things in a headphone.

  • @faqnatics
    @faqnatics6 күн бұрын

    Thanks RC75. Sennheiser makes some great product, and the weight on the Momentum 3 seems to be about the same as the S2e. Comfort is primarily dictated by weight, pressure points (meaning the ear-cups and headband), and ear-cup pressure for sealing in bass frequency. I was not a fan of the first PX7 (and a lot of headphones) because of how the weight interacted with the pressure points and ear-cup pressure, both of which made it hard to wear for extended periods. The S2e doesn't seem to have those same issues, and I was wearing it again a few weeks ago on a trip to MWAVE, where between flights and layovers I wore them the bette part of a whole day, and only took them off a couple of times. I just looked and the S2e happen to be a Prime Deal, so it's again a solid time to pick a pair up and see for yourself. Appreciate the comment and please subscribe if you didn't already. BTW, did you register for the headphone giveaway? I'd still probably pick up the prime deal, but they can always be returned if you win a pair.

    Just received two more subs to add to my existing one. I have placed the two new ones on the back wall, off the corner a little. My front sub is between the left and centre speaker. I can immediately tell the sound has improved and filled the null I had at my main seat at 35-50Hz. Later today I will calibrate MiniDSP with REW and time align and gain match, EQ etc...

  • @faqnatics
    @faqnatics13 күн бұрын

    @@scott-richardson sounds like a solid improvement. I have a feeling I’ll be doing the same in my media room build. I’ve got two subs that will go in the front, and gonna see what Dirac Art can do for the room first, but my seating is a bit further back since it’s in the family room, and it seems to be hitting a null. Luckily we can always add more, and wireless subs have come a long way in terms of processing speed, for those that can’t easily wire to the front and back.

  • @scott-richardson
    @scott-richardson13 күн бұрын

    @@faqnatics ah yeah the wiring is painful. My room is already all built so I have an electrician coming in tomorrow to tear the place apart. Got to rip up the carpet on my riser, and cut out some plaster board on the side wall so that we can run the RCA's from my MiniDSP and also some power to the rear of the room to connect the subs. Currently running long cables along the floor to do my initial testing. I'd love to have a 4th subwoofer to place at the opposite side on the front wall but that's where my components are currently so we will have to settle with 3 subs for now. I think I should be fine with 3 honestly.

    JLA cr-1 active crossover Simplifies everything 😊

  • @faqnatics
    @faqnaticsАй бұрын

    Yes, JL is great, although any system with DSP and multi-setup can do something similar. Grimani uses an active crossover or DSP in the amp which allows much more control than a passive crossover, or a simple 80/120hz switch. I’m playing around with Theory Audio’s new Dante enabled DSP in an open media room to see how it can help with the room as well. Adds a layer of complexity in that most general users buy an amp, but a pair of speakers and want it to work, but if you use an active crossover design it allows you to control the drop off and pickup levels of each speaker more precisely. Appreciate the time and comment.

    Thanks for the review. I appreciate the context that you gave for the design decisions for the S2e, it really shows how much thought was put behind the decisions for the S2e and the finished product was much more refined than the others when it came to the vision. I thought other reviewers just grazed over the details, but you went over each category pretty in-depth!

  • @faqnatics
    @faqnaticsАй бұрын

    Thanks, and I agree it's a topic that's often grazed over because reviewers are either given or loaned a product, and they test it for a a few hours and the manufacturer often gives them some main points, and that's it. My goal is to dig a little deeper and be able to look at the product as a whole. Most reviewers are afraid to compare products, or to make a recommendation because they don't want to lose future review potentials, or sponsorship dollars. But I think it's important to be able to tell people, it's better tat this, it's okay or bad at this, and overall, here is what I'd spend my money on. For the larger categories like lighting and shades, I also plan to do a best, better, good analysis, talking about the category in a more generic sense so people know what they should expect in a price band, and then provide 1-2 brands in each area that perform the best. I am working on that currently with my lighting reviews, and trying to drop an order on some shades this week, so I can get started on that as well. Again, thank you for taking the time to watch and subscribe. I hope the headphone contest is a fun way to engage people, and be sure to invite your friends, because it gets you bonus entries, and if the person that wins was referred, the person that referred them gets a pair of headphones as well.

  • @faqnatics
    @faqnaticsАй бұрын

    Always happy to look at any drawings. The beauty of a lot of this LED strip lighting is that it’s low voltage, so you can hide the power brick somewhere and the led channel can take various shapes depending on what you need. Of course you don’t want to kill the aesthetic of the room, but I know a manufacturer that even makes a great black frosted lens, and mixed with a black or thin metal extrusion channel makes for a very low profile build when the lights are off. Right now it’s all about general lighting in the house, but I’ll for sure be doing some cool stuff in the theater and garage when it’s time. Appreciate the comments.

    Don't guess! The easiest way to set delays in REW is to use the "Time Alignment" tool (All SPL tab). It displays the effect of adding a delay in real time. I pick 2 subs, find a delay that improves response, then measure them together. Then I adjust delay between the combined measurement and the 3rd sub...repeat for the 4th if you have one. Try different combinations of subs to see what works the best. It'd be nice if REW let you "align" 4 measurements at the same time, but alas...

It is "easy" to reduce a standing wave if you consider ONE axial, like length wise, but if you put all dimensions to play it will be VERY complex to understand what you are doing... I have been struggling for years with 2 x 15" in every corner (4 subs) using REW and MiniDsp 2x4HD in my HiFi setup. It is sure fun, but very complex and time consuming. The hardest part (for me) is time alignment with the mains, because they are not able to time align. Just saying :) Cheers!

    I’ve been throwing around ideas about outdoor lighting and want to do it myself, but have a hard time designing it what are some tips about what to illuminate?

  • @faqnatics
    @faqnatics2 ай бұрын

    So trees and bushes are some natural things to highlight from a natural perspective. In addition materials like rock, stone, columns, and arches or roof peaks are most common. Plus you’ll want to look at pathways, patios, and any stairs you might have. Combining flood lights and cameras around some patio or driveways is also good to do. Uplighting is common for a lot of that, but for larger trees or pathways around larger trees, you can down light from higher up in the trees canopy. Let me know if I can answer any other questions or introduce you to a local outdoor lighting expert.

    Are we using PoE here or transferring audio signals over Ethernet cables? Does this require all speakers to be powered? Complex crossovers? How would this look to someone today who's using speaker wire and XLR cables to connect his pre-pro to his amp? This video went straight into talking about what's coming, but not what it does, so I was left (and still am) completely confused 20 minutes into the video. Even with Anthony's picture of "this to this", I'm still thinking to myself "my system doesn't look like that. I don't know what's changing". It seems like Anthony's systems all have a bunch of external amps that run speaker wire to speakers. But how does this remove ground hum? My only thought is that we use parallel port connections from Storm and Trinnov pre-pros into amps, and that those connections are called AES. So maybe that's what's being converted to AES67 or Dante. I spent time looking these up online and couldn't figure out what they were relative to home theater. Maybe by the 1 hour mark, I'll have all these answers, but I wanted to give feedback on how I'm feeling 20 minutes in as someone who considers himself "in the know" on home theater.

    Source and amplifier would need to be AES67. Effectively one Ethernet cable out of the processor, into a network switch, and then an Ethernet cable from the network switch to the amplifier or amplified speaker which could be in the rack, or another room. No XLR cables at all, and the amps could be located in the same place, or different rooms depending on the setup. Ethernet cable is less expensive and easier to build in most situations, and the cable isn’t required to be grounded which is how it cleans up ground loops, because you don’t have different cycles from different products being grounded differently in an analog connection. Everything stays digital from source all the way until the amplifier, and then technically whether its rack mounted or an amplified speaker, you typically have some sort of speaker cable whether that’s a few inches or several feet. We do discuss PoE and why although it’s possible for low power commercial speakers, you will never really get high performance theater speakers because it just requires more than what can be supplied by a PoE switch. Hope that helps.

This weekend is all about backyard prep for some projects out there, but then back to lighting by room, and the increase in brightness and control over the lighting is phenomenal. Chat soon, 🥃🍻

    LOL, sure, I can just put the sound of a weed whacker over it to generate the sound. At least I know my ICE car won't lose to a Cybertruck, although a plaid is still faster, but that can go away in the turns, or after a couple of laps, so the end car stays for the moment... 😉 I'd love to test a Plaid on track though and see if and how my time changes.

    Thanks! So four subs in the quarter position but pointing in which direction pls? :)

  • @faqnatics
    @faqnatics2 ай бұрын

    Typically aimed on the 90 degrees towards the center of the room, but because bass waves are pretty omnidirectional you are going to get a similar response in either direction. That's why when you put it in a corner, the wave starts growing, then moves down to the bottom of the wave, and then back up again. By bringing them in to a quarter of the way, the idea is that you remove two boundary reinforcements, which cleans it up, and makes it easier to get around the nulls, but at the expense of some bass SPL. Just to clarify though, while that is deemed to be "the best", Anthony's point is that if you put the subs closer to the corners, but still use four of them, you get the additional reflection "boundary reinforcement" of the walls, and any reflection issues can be removed or lessened via DSP, so the gain in bass, with four subs in the corners (facing into the room) is worth more than the potential issues it causes. Hope that clarifies it. There is another video, I think it's linked at the end on the CEDIA room he built with the StormAudio and Seymour team, and it goes into the room design even more. @@faqnatics Thanks so much! I'm just building my cinema room slowly so learning as much as I can before each step. I'm currently researching best ways to feel the bass! Will start with 2x SVS SB3000 disguised as coffee tables near the sofas for now on a concreate floor, whilst thinking of ways to get the vibrations up through the sofas while also not loose much height. Glad the vid mentioned them! 😀

    My pleasure. Looks like not as many people in my sphere click on this category at the moment, but lighting is a topic for everyone. I've got 1-2 other general courses coming out in the next 1-2 weeks, and then I am going room by room in my place to show how lighting can be updated to work in a new or remodel build. I put in 70 light fixtures and switches this weekend, and still have another 50-70 more to install this week and weekend! Wife is loving the Proluxe bulbs I put in. She understands the switches, and loves the brightness and color/temperature control. She can't wait for me to get it tied into the voice control like we had at our last house.

    Why do you people always talk in terms of home theater?

  • @faqnatics
    @faqnatics2 ай бұрын

    Hey Mike. Do you mean content home theater vs. 2-channel audio; or do you mean home theater vs. media room; or home theater vs. the dining room? If you could clarify the question a bit for me, I’d be happy to provide an answer.

    @faqnatics OK so I mean I wish you'd do more vids to do with 2 channel in terms of bass management. Thanks

  • @faqnatics
    @faqnatics2 ай бұрын

    Fair enough. As I build out my room, I was planning to do a 2-channel version of it as well. Here's a few points though that I hope clears up some of what you're saying. 1. I'm generalizing of course, but 2-channel is often about the main listener position. People like to relax and unwind to some music, and that is often done alone, or with one other person. Setting up the room for 1-2 seats next to each other is "comparatively" simple vs. trying to get even sound pressure from seat to seat in a 6-10 person theater. Now we start adding in modes that you don't really care about if it's not where you're sitting in the 2-channel scenario. 2. For many 2-channel purists, there is a thought process that you shoudn't/don't need a subwoofer. This usually has to do with imaging, and is why some of the better/more famous 2-channel speakers are designed with much larger woofer drivers vs. their home theater counterpart. However, I think this school of thought is a bit simplified, since to the heart of your question, those subs in the 2-channel setup may be causing a null in your favorite spot, but you can't move it because the positioning of the speaker is required for imaging purposes in the mids and highs. Crossing over the speaker even in a 2-channel scenario is still therefore important depending of course on room size, acoustics,... However it really isn't a 2-channel system anymore, it's now a 2.1, with the .1 possibly being 2-4 subwoofers around you. 3. Depending a bit on the speaker itself, but in general, if it sounds right for home theater, it's probably going to sound amazing for 2-channel as well. I know that myself, Keith Yates, and Anthony all typically utilize 2-channel tracks in our demos, so it's not that we aren't teaching this in terms of 2-channel, it's just that we're often building the room for Atmos audio, movies, and 2-channel. A 2-channel system can sound amazing, as can a good 3.1 system for movies, but if you have the space, budget, and desire for the best experience out there, it's going to be more than 2-channels. That's not an argument against a great 2-channel system, but that system can only be used for 2-channel playback, everything else is downmixed to it, but a 7.1.4 is still perfectly setup for that prime listening position, sounds amazing for music, and can do so much more. 4. There are of course additional considerations if you are really at the high level of pristine audio. Speakers being placed in front of or behind a screen obviously reduces some of the sound power of the speakers, but again, great woven screens like @Seymour Screens help to alleviate this by reducing all sound across the major spectrum equally, so it becomes more of an issue of having a bit more headroom to turn it up, rather than the screen imparting major characteristics. I hope that clarifies a bit. Most of us enjoy music as much as movies, although there can be some digital vs. analog discussions between the two groups. But I do agree, it is nice to have one place to learn what you need, which is the idea behind FAQnatics. I'm not selling anything, I'm just taking the courses I typically build for Integrators and bringing them to consumers so they better understand what they need, and feel more confident in the science, when they go to a shop or are looking to upgrade their system, lighting, shades, whatever. So I'll make you a deal, you like and subscribe, and I will build you a training specifically on room acoustics and the benefits of adding subs for proper bass management for 2-channel audio! I'll need into the summer since I am just starting to design and spec the theater now, but I'll be documenting all the steps, and will happily build a video or two on 2-channel for those that want to build the best room possible. Thanks for the comments, I hope that was a good short-term/long-term answer for you.
